Yeah, for sure. We both seem to have a weakness for low kicks lol. You're welcome, GGs, just give me a call if you want to play again

Okay, woke up, it's 7 in the morning, and I am at page 331 of this thread. Which means there's about 25 pages to read up on. I switched to Ryu for a little time, and finished watching the "Official Character Guide for Ryu", so I know his basics but yet my brain decides to freeze in an actual match. I got five casual online matches with him, lost them all, so I decided to share my fourth fight on my Youtube. I know I need to defend more, yet I think I'm getting better at this aspect, and need to be a little more patient. Please give feedback.
On another note, I just got my FIRST EVER WIN IN A STREET FIGHTER game ever. Any Street Fighter game. It was a casual online match, and I could see I were up against a super scrub but whatever, I take the win! And my first win at that. This time I were playing Charlie Nash, and I know I didn't use any meter in this match, but do you have any other feedback I can take with me? I shared that video on my Youtube here.
I can feel that I am not hitting the commands right sometimes. When I consistently do a light punch, it's because I'm trying to do a grab. If I'm punching downward, it's because I tried do a CA. And failed at both. Also, I think it'll help me, if I invest in a Fighting Commander 4, especially for those v-reversals.
Anyway, FIRST EVER WIN EVER!!!
- Tone down special move frequency on Cammy or space them better. Very punishable, which the Karin didn't do all that well.Played some lounge battles with maddogmax and went 4-5 overall. Out cammy/Karen battles were pretty epic. So that's what I'll share, overall it was 3 sets to 2 but we split on cammy/Karen.
Here's the first 3:

then I switched to Nash, perhaps not realizing he might have wanted a rematch, he won vs. Nash 2-1
then we did a rematch:

Critique please, for both of us (he asked me ask). I was starting to feel the heat of being repetative, like "oh fuck he's got me down and i have nothing" kind of panic lol
Some re-occurring flaws here as seen in the sets above you, so take a cue from those critiques where applicable. You're correct with your own observations. Couple of differences though: quite of bit of careless jumping in your play as well jab mashing, both of which can be easily punished. Not much else to go by given that the opposing Cammy also lacked restraint or something resembling a distilled strategy.I got my first Online win last night, with Karin. I can identify a few problems I need to address already:

- Learning the spacing for normal attacks (Round 2 was horrendous for just missing my opponent).
- Still stuck with muscle memory of a crouching-forward attack pose thanks to history with Kunimitsu in Tekken.
- Guard, guard, guard.
Any other pointers that are glaringly obvious to Street Fighter veterans? Thanks in advance for any advice.
- Right off the bat: way too much jumping. This can get you in trouble against better players. Here is my ken playing super fundamental figter V

Please critique my tecnique. I need to work my execution and punishes
The Birdie match is a classic example of how you defeated yourself. The reason why I'm stating this is because the Birdie... wasn't doing much in the grand scheme of things. He wasn't going on the offensive, he wasn't making the most out of V-Skills or V-Trigger, he didn't particularly defend much either up until Round 3 either so the large brunt of the damage he dished out came from you being rather haphazard at inopportune moments. It's good that you exercised some caution and tried to poke away at him with your longer range normals, some whiff punishes in places even, but eventually you started throwing out random special moves for the sake of it from quite a distance away from him. It would've benefited you if you persisted with a grounded approach until the Birdie shows that he's aware how to get around this, which he only did during the third round with the anti-airs he used. I recognize that some Spiral Arrow instances were attempts at hit confirms, which is fine, but tighten up the execution if you're confident you can open someone up. Bottom line: you sometimes had the right idea on what fundamental strategy to follow, but you didn't notice the player weaknesses. And with regards to character weaknesses: Birdie is rather vulnerable to continuous up-close pressure for a multitude of reasons. Slow V-Reversal, no special move he can use as a proper reversal either, slower normals than Cammy and his command grabs aren't impressive. Chains are also unsafe. Some fights I had just now, one vs birdie and the other cammy.

What are your thoughts? Am I doing okay?

Try doing the cr.mk in the middle of the srk motion. So f, d+mk, df+pI'm so bad at the crouching game. I'll practice that. I still can't figure out how to cancel into moves. Should I just input the shoryuken right before the last frame of c.mk ends?

In this case hadouken, but you can also cancel c. MK into shoryuken if you want. In your situation hadouken is safer on block, with a shoryuken the opponent has a lot more time to retaliate.
But yes, try to input quarter-circle punch before the c.MK animation ends. Just practice it in training mode, do it until you can do it ten times in a row on each side and then try to do it on a CPU controlled character before you try it online.

Reminder for Ken players, since I only just found out for myself:
I'm not sure if even vanilla EX Tatsu can do this and I could've blocked the SRK if I wasn't caught with my pants down, but there's his method of getting around Dhalsim / F.A.N.G projectiles.
Yes, Cindi linked some official ones earlier. Four of them can be found on Capcom's Street Fighter YouTube, more likely to be uploaded as time passes. Is there character tutorials?
I would like to know basic tactics/combos for some of the different characters,
Thanks.
i want to play but i'm too hung over
this is the worst
Hey GAF, we added a Fighting Game Newbie channel for people learning the genre, wanting to learn, and looking for sparring partners or mentors; quote to reveal the link:
Much like my Chun vs Mika match I posted earlier, it seemed like the Mika was the one jumping. Mikas tend to do that A LOT. I find air grabs to be effective. The smart Mika players don't overdo it, but the over-excited ones never learn their lesson.Hi guys, I was directed to come here for some advices. Here's a replay of mine:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fA7TAW6l1T4
I'm the chun player, and tbh I pretty much feel like I can,t do anything vs anyone who rushes like crazy, this video is a good example of that. I start jumping like a retard and cant land anything
Anyone can give me some tips?
Alright guys frustration has set in and I am in need of help. I have almost no real experience in fighting games outside of Smash Bros. I have about 30 hours in USF4 but it was with a friend mostly. I have beaten all story modes for the characters in SFV and have settled on using Rashid. I can do all his moves pretty much without error but now I am at an impasse. I don't know how to get good. I sit in training mode but don't really learn much because I am not sure what to look for or what to get better at. I don't really know how to combo appropriately and really just need some guidance.
Dhalsim, Chun-Li and F.A.N.G fit the bill of having an annoying hit-and-run playstyle, but two of them are charge characters and the remaining one is fairly demanding to be good with.Played a friend in Battle Lounge today (got it working, yay) and he told me something interesting after he beat me several times. I am apparently a pain to keep locked down. Which makes me wonder a bit... That's not Karin's gameplan in most cases, maybe I should look into someone else and get back to Karin when I've tried more characters?
But, are there any hit and run style characters in SFV? Or am I just letting frustrations talk and should go back to practicing Karin? I suppose it couldn't hurt to look.
Also, Denmark to the US can apparently be a playable connection. Not great, but... I've had worse in Ranked from the more local area.
Chun-Li is on my short list of other possible mains. (Ken, R. Mika, Zangief, and Ryu are also on it.) Never thought much of F.A.N.G. I haven't met one online yet, and I haven't even tried him out. He's a very gimmicky character, it seems. Maybe I should give Chun-Li a try, I never liked the mashed out kicks, but those are gone now. I can go back to Karin when my fundamentals are better.Dhalsim, Chun-Li and F.A.N.G fit the bill of having an annoying hit-and-run playstyle, but two of them are charge characters and the remaining one is fairly demanding to be good with.

I don't think Chun fits the bill. Her design is focused more for rush down. She shines at mid-to close range and is horrible at distance play.Chun-Li .
From what I've seen she's capable of weaving in and out of a lot of characters' ranges and methodically chipping away at them before applying more aggression when the time is right, but it is admittedly a different style of hit-and-run than F.A.N.G or Dhalsim. Her good normals and walking speed allow her to 'easily' suffocate the other player with just accurate spacing alone, not to imply she should focus on that exclusively.I don't think Chun fits the bill. Hello. I need a person who can level up my Ryu gameplay. I am lacking game plan on my Ryu. Can anyone help?
I know I don't want to play Dhalsim. There's just too much with him that won't carry over to the rest of the cast. I feel like I defeat myself on my opponent with Karin. Ressenha is addicting. Because it works so often. ...and then it doesn't and I lose a third of my lifebar. Perhaps playing someone without a fullscreen leap and actually learn to earn my screen position would be healthy in the long run. From what I've seen she's capable of weaving in and out of a lot of characters' ranges and methodically chipping away at them before applying more aggression when the time is right, but it is admittedly a different style of hit-and-run than F.A.N.G or Dhalsim. Nice. Thanks. I need a sparring partner as well.
It serves two purposes. It discourages throw attempts and it's meant to bait out dp's for that sweet crush counter damage.I've heard people talking about the shimmy on wake up. Is this meant to dance in and out and near throw range to bait out a throw attempt? Or just to confuse the opponent? It seems like a risky play but I was watching Chris hu's Karin do it against bison. Bison has very poor wake up options so maybe it's much less useful against say Ryu or cammy because they have a good dp?

Once you make them hesitate on the wake-up dp etc, then it's easier to walk up throw, set up cross ups etc.
