I did the benchmark with both and DX11 performed better..? What results are you guys getting?

Added support for DirectX 12
DirectX 12 is a new advanced graphics API that on the right hardware can offer far better performance.
For the best DX12 performance and stability please install the latest drivers for your GPU.
For NVIDIA: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/99512/en-us
For AMD: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD_Radeon_Software_Crimson_Edition_16.3.aspx

Adds NVIDIA VXAO Ambient Occlusion technology. This is the world’s most advanced real-time AO solution, specifically developed for NVIDIA Maxwell hardware. (Steam Only)
Added a new benchmark feature to allow easy comparison of performance on different systems, as well as at different graphics settings.
Fixed some HBAO+ and other Ambient Occlusion issues.
Fixed motion blur problems in Stereoscopic 3D mode.
A variety of other smaller optimizations, bug-fixes, and tweaks.

hah right when i am in the final area of the game (i think?
i'm at the orrery puzzle under kitezh
) my save tells me i'm 76% done.

VXAO? Wow. Doesn't sit well on ze tongue at all. Does it fuck things up for AMD cards?

From what I read, it uses NVAPI and GPU features only available on Maxwell. So it won't mess up AMD cards at all as it cannot even run on them (as per the current implementation).

A DX12 patch just seems odd to me. I mean, surely to get any real touted performance gains the game would need to be built from the ground up to take maximum advantage of the API's features.

I can't see that happening with something that's basically a patch.

From Microsoft’s point of view, Langley echoed Baker’s statements. Working with developers, Microsoft is already finding that DX12 is typically a net win for CPU performance in most cases. Just how much any in-development title is benefitting from DX12 varies from game to game, but a common thread in all of these cases is that the earlier game developers can implement it the better. Games that add DX12 at the last moment are benefitting the least – and Microsoft is trying to help developers integrate it sooner – whereas games that do integrate it sooner like Ashes are seeing much more significant benefits.

At least conservative rasterization is now part of dx12 spec, so there is a change to see it on non-nvidia cards.

Yeah, I imagine Polaris will add that in!

Let's hope then it uses generic dx12 / or 11.3 spec stuff and not NVAPI in the end. Then polaris users can go back some day and check it out.

It could be an entiredly different engine branch with a copletely different back end. It coming out in a patch, IMO, does not say much about its quality or as to when it was integrated nor the extent to the integration.

Geothermal Valley was one of the few areas that fucks you based on your CPU, not GPU.

I thought one of the big performance gains in DX12 (as well as your other "console-like" APIs like Vulkan, Mantle, Metal, etc.) is that it reduces CPU load for things like lots of draw calls, freeing up CPU resources.

never left the stone age
So, WinStore version in about 10-12 days, right? :lol.

Edit: Holy shit, they can't use VXAO in the Windows Store version? What the hell.

I assume that VXAO doesn't work on winstore version because it uses NVAPI, which doesn't have any mechanism for traversing the UWA sandbox.

Performance is crap, stutters a lot.
Going to just try dx11 again to make sure though.
