Dragon Quest Builders | Import OT| - Home wasn't built in a day.

I've translated the story guides and recipe lists up to chapter 2. The Japanese names of items are listed the first time they show up so you can try to match characters, though eventually I'd like to put in the proper icons. Chapters 3 and 4 should be coming within the next few days.

Man, the most time-consuming part is actually looking up the English names for items taken from other DQ games.

Good stuff this should help out new players.

Are there any tips for combat, I got owned by that dragon. I saw the video where he digs under it and am going to try that. Should I use my building abilities in monster fights ?

Going to assume you mean the green one on, I think it was, second island, chapter 1.
It's rather easy, just hit'n'run. Circle around it and when it breaths fire smack it on the side of the head, when it charges back away and go in and smack it after the spin.

Anyway, screw you Para!! After seeing that my OCD hit hard and I had to rebuild my first castle and let me tell you it was annoying as Heck. I never caught on that I couldn't expand the town up and down only. Jebus, I had spent way to much time Building my Castle and to tear it down again? Even though it was wrongly built? My poor fragile heart :p
Anyway, clean stone all the way :)

Anyway, I'm not in a hurry have a few other games so just at the beginning of chapter 2. Building Ellie a multi lvl large infirmary. Perhaps it'll lvl up to hospital? :O

Hey guys could somebody explain how downloading a building works in free mode? I see the buildings appear, and I can make him grab the tablet infront of the building, but I can't make it appear on my land as editable.

yeah when i start to look harder at my structures I start to dismantle and rebuild shit. its why i flooded my third town by accident and had to restart lol as was too huge of a pain in the ass to fix as Im building that one from literally the bottom floor limit and then going upwards. way too much crap to fill in and redig to fix so was faster to restart D:

Yeah it's a damn pain :D But I have to change everything out to Black rock, just so no bigger enemies can smash it :)

Anyway, chapter 3 basically done everything but I have to find another hot water source and a dang cake set. I can't find them :/ Do I need to make the dangerous bikini? Or is it something I pick up somewhere? :(

You can use the hot water stone you got at the start of the chapter to create a hot water source. You just need to connect the water sources to fill up the proper spaces. It can be tricky though because you might flood an entire area, lol

Listening to the new 8-4 Play podcast got me really interested in this game, and it wasn't even on my radar before.

Im really hoping this comes to the US, and for the Vita since I don't have a PS4 (yet). Has there been any news or anything recently about it coming to the states?

Ahh yeah...not filling everything. There is no proof my first floor turned into a swimming pool. Non at all :D

I'm a bit confused about it actually. I mean no mp seemed as a major drawback in my world since everyone I know are basically playing it in mp. I even had a server up for it for a while as I was hosting it for my godson and his friends and their friends all just play mp.
But yes, would be cool as heck to see it make it over.
<- Playing on Vita as well :)

I also noticed one thing.....they never close their eyes....their eyes are never closed...how?? And why??

ooh his channel didn't get banned? Thought SE Japan had it out for him.
That's great, I don't really watch much of him but from time to time it's just soothing to put one of his DQVIII/X vids on and just relax :)

No they "only" took down his first episode of DQX which had more than 100.000 views.:/

I first discovered his channel with his DQVIII lets plays during a very stressful period in my life and like you said his commentary really helped made me relax. :)

Well according to developer the reason they didn't put online multiplayer is that it would be extremely difficult to balance the sandbox environment & mini-mission based storyline while maintaining Dragon-Quest-ness. The director chose to tell devs to put all of their effort to single player campaign (and this is where the game is praised at so I approve their choice).

Finished the first chapter last night and I'm already very much enjoying the approach of the second chapter. This game is so much fun.

Just started playing DQB, the game really is great! I tried to get into Minecraft multiple times but it never hooked me because it was just too open ended for my taste. DQB reminds me of playing Harvest Moon, you have a lot of freedom but there are set goals and quests you have to accomplish. The idea of rebuilding the kingdom is a great story hook imo. It's time to build some walls and make Merukido great again ;)

yeah, his DQ videos are awesome and sparked an interest in DQ for me that I didn't really know I had.

Quick DQB question, are the towns in the later chapters bigger than the first chapter's? I'm almost done with chapter one now and I've started to run out of room for cool... rooms

My copy just arrived yesterday. I don't know any Japanese so that translated wiki is going to be super helpful.

I couldn't wait to see if it was going to get a NA release.

couple of quick questions:
is there any way to get grass to grow on dirt blocks?
what are the globe things that are in the chests you portal to?
I've picked up some variants of a block that I can only make one variant of, will I be able to make those variants at some point?

kill draki the black ball looking bats they drop a green seed looking item that turns dirt to grass.

orbs when placed creates a colored dot of the same color that points you to the orbs location.

I really hope this comes to the states, it looks so fun, creative and relaxing. DQ Builders, Shenmue III and Darius Burst CS are my triple threat niche must-get list when I buy a PS4.

Five story castles, six story castles, seven, eight, nine, ten! Just go for it :D
Just remember to make to stairs up to each floor. No idea why but when I had only one the characters decided to just stay on the first floor.

the AI seems to respond to how close routes are to an upper or lower floor rather than always freely pathing to one esp when you have a large multi-story structure.

the same goes with the locations of their private rooms.

I've been thinking long and hard about just leveling the entire town and making a huge castle, but I don't have time for it. This game is already sucking up way too much of my free time :D

Changelog says some general stability fixes, some character dialogue changed to be easier to understand, and some changes in what items certain monsters drop.

A quick search has people reporting that bodkin fletchers in chapter 2 drop bitter mushrooms, and the bunicorns in chapter 3 drop the herbs needed to make medicinal herbs. The former is particularly important since you could get stuck and have to restart the chapter if you used up all the mushrooms before a certain point.

I also found a developer stream they did last week and they mention that they're going to release another patch later to fix the camera issues, thankfully.

Thank god for that since the camera is literally the worst thing about the game when it comes to indoors.

Finally just got my physical copy in the mail (learned my lesson about the slow PA shipping.) Anyway, this is probably a dumb question, but what is the included DLC for? Google Translate has failed me.

I'm sure this has been asked before but now that the game has been out for a bit and people are creating guides, would I be able to play this game and enjoy it even though it's in Japanese

I'd say that depends on how much you need to understand everything that everyone says, ever. Get the demo! Try it out! If you just like making progress in the game, buy it! If you want to understand all the flavor text and story progress and quest dialogue and all that stuff, maybe don't. I fall in the latter category so far, but I'll end up importing if there's no official localization news by the end of 2016.

Our very own amazing mothball is working on this: http://dqbguide.tumblr.com/main , which is an excellent resource.

The Demo ends right after the Quest:
■旅のとびらを作るのだ！ Create a Traveler's Gate!

Just so you know, and you can't carry over your save data, but once you've gone through it in the demo, the second time moves at a better clip, imo.

Yeah while some quests will point you in a direction others they will tell you what they would like built / placed to fulfill a requirement. So with that being said reading is a bit of a necessity. Though as pointed out by Teriyaki Blues thanks the the guide mothball is working on helps those without the language ability enjoy the game also!

I'm going through the sidequests in chapter 1 and I'm having trouble with 'Making a Grave' (using mothballs guide). I'm pretty sure I pillaged everything in this cave when I first found it and now I can't seem to finish it. anyone care to take a screenshot or something of where you are supposed to place the gravestone in the cave?

The grave actually has several different caves it can spawn in. Which one is dependent on your instance of the game. It can be either in a cave near where you get asked to replicate a Garden or you it'll be in a cave near the Dilapidated Castle, as I recall.

i know the location of the cave is different, but the contents are the same right? or am I completely screwed on this sidequest?

When you are placing blocks properly it should light up like when you are following a building plan.
Are you saying you destroyed everything in the cave and have no idea where to begin?

when I first visited the cave I had no idea that it was related to a sidequest, so I took everything there and mined out some stuff. I tried placing down the headstone different places, but no such luck :/

I'm starting to get antsy about waiting for this English announcement, are there any upcoming events that would be ideal for this kind of localization announcement? Otherwise I think I'm just gonna go ahead and get it off Japanese psn...
