PS4K, NX. Holiday gonna be expensive this year.

I was all in on VR this year but if a PS4.5 indeed does release at the end of the year I'm going to buy it.

Late to this but still....umm wow...

I mean I did plan on replacing my white ps4 because of the touch capacitive buttons doing the eject disc stuff....not sure if I'm feeling this whole ideology tho...

... And you still don't have to worry about this. If you own a PS4 its going to keep playing PS4 games, exactly as it was before this comes out. Nobody is going to abandon 40+ million PS4s to make new PS4 only games. Just like nobody abandoned the 3DS when the new 3DS came out.
Yea I think this is pretty obvious, games will keep working until PS5, I think that old PS4 users have nothing to worry about.

The only thing that might suck is knowing that some users enjoy the same game you play at double the framerate and on ultra settings, if you don't jealous over such thing you will have no problem to enjoy your PS4 like any other traditional console before.

I've said it a few pages back, but for Microsoft this makes sense to take this step because of Windows 10 and the fact that they would essentially be releasing Steamboxes.

How does this make sense for Sony with no Windows 10 equivalent? What's going to be the backbone of Playstation systems going forward? Are they going to make a Playstation operating system that is going to be iterated upon with every new console? Because we know damn well how long these current consoles take to R&D and develop, and what an integral part the operating system is to these consoles

It doesn't make sense in the console market for either of them. It makes sense for MS pushing the w10 store and putting out cheap XB1 level PC's.

Also I break all my computers with pornos.

My consoles haven't broken from pornos.

Cheap ass ;P
Maybe you should start paying for porn and not be getting it from the dark side of the i-net.
Those ladies and dudes are working hard for their money, you know.

Some of the major porn sites already have VR porn. I...I...won't try...this could ruin me.

I cannot believe Sony would launch this in the Fall and have it cannibalize PSVR marketing. End of next year or maybe 2018 at the earliest. The article makes it sound like they are currently gauging feedback.

I could see Sony and MS releasing new hardware like the Intel Tick/Tock strategy. The hardware doesn't need to be significantly upgraded every year.

Example below.

PS4 S2 - Refinement & Updated Standards
  • HDMI 2.0
  • USB3.1
  • AC Wireless
  • Freesync Support

PS4 S3 - Aesthetic Redesign & Hardware Upgrade
  • CPU & GPU Upgrade (EX: Zen and Polaris Class)
  • Memory Upgrade (HBM2 or GDDR5X)

PS4 S4 - Refinement & Updated Standards
  • HDMI 3.0
  • USB 4.0
  • AD Wireless
  • SSD as Standard
  • Bluetooth 5.0
  • Freesync 2.0

PS4 S5 - Aesthetic Redesign & Hardware Upgrade
  • CPU & GPU Upgrade
  • Memory Upgrade (HBM3)

This is not a PC. I buy a console so I don't have to worry about this.

You don't have to worry about this. There aren't infinite combinations like a PC. Just assume it's another multiplatform game. There is another console the game is being optimized for.

Or do you worry about all multiplatform games too?

Give up, they can't comprehend what you are saying with all the bits of sky they are having to dodge!

Well, there is one issue that i think could be problematic. How long are the developers going to be forced supporting the older models until they can make fundamental changes to the games as opposed to keeping the baseline limited to the lowest common denominator?

Multiplat development was seriously limiting the scope of games due to the shitty 512MB ram that the last gen consoles provided. I wonder if this will really speed up the console cycles as opposed to making it even more long in anything but graphical effects.

if they don't have to upgrade to play new games, it sounds like a personal problem. tech gets upgraded fast all the time, because it finally happens to a console people throw a fit?

sell your ps4s, upgrade for cheap. that's my plan.

Problem is that developers may be given incentives to make features or targets for NEW sku, thus dividing the player base. Imagine if the next Destiny game which also the last one was on PS3, had features that were absent on the older SKu, that were significant features, like 60fps, or utilize 4k tv's? You don't think that person will be pissed that they have to spend 399+ for the newer sku? Or that the developer get's a lot of bad community talk for having divides among the different versions of the game.

Having 2-3 year iterations only makes sense if it's small things that wont impact on games or customer. Like bigger hard drives, mast charging ports, smaller form factor. WHen you change the gpu and talks from forums like these go to main sites and to the news outlets you will see so man parents pissed off.

I remember when Wii u came out and the confusion with the system people thought they had to upgrade and that it cost 299.

Nah, I'm all good. I will still keep my systems for a few years and enjoy all the games as I normally would. The only difference is that a new system will be there waiting when I am ready and I can take all my games with me. It's a beautiful thing, really.

I don't think calling them "Motherfuckers" or demanding a company give you "basically" free shit because "reasons" is a good look for anyone.

Okay. Thanks for stopping by to enlighten me with your condescending attitude.

I'm just speaking loosely and candidly on a forum full of nerds, as if I'm shit-talking amongst friends. It's not like I would actually voice my concerns to an official representative this way.

And let me guess. You think I'm an entitled gamer because I don't like the idea of Sony splitting up the installbase and treating their fans like beta-testers, thanking them for being early adopters while asking them for another $500. I'm just another asshole asking for a handout, right?

People make their investments in consoles because of their stability and reliability. You trust it's going to be supported as a primary platform for many years, it's a significant part of the appeal in the first place. Otherwise everyone would just be PC gamers, which is far from the truth.
If this was a legitimate PS4.5 I'd be upset. If it's just an upgrade that allows a normal PS4 to play 4K video content and typical stuff like a bigger stock hard drive, then I think that's just fine.

Shit just got real haha

This news, along with MS considering the same thing is just fucking nuts.

With iterations like these though, and compatibility issues to worry about, I think it's safe for me to say that I won't be participating in buying these things. I'll stick to upgrading my PC with that cash.

No thanks.

And there is exactly the kind of issue I brought up. Why invest in a console at all if this is how it's going to be? It's suddenly lost one of its biggest selling points.

I dont see why people are upset with the people not ok with this right off the bat, this i something new to the console space so pf course its going to hit some harder than others not everybody is rich either lol.

You really wanna go back to and repeat those dark Cross-Gen days? Did you forget about the enormous differences between Shadows of Mordor on PS4 and on PS3?

I'm thinking this is more for a better PSVR experience than 4k resolutions. As long as it's 100% backwards compatible and there are no PS4.5 only games, I really don't see why this is an issue. It's just going to be like the new 3DS (yes i'm aware there are a couple of New 3DS only games).

Maybe the announcement itself is at the end of year. I could see this being a PSX thing.

Assuming this is true and Sony does introduce a more powerful PS4K, does that push a full next-gen PS5 a lot further out to like 2021-2023 ?

If consoles are gonna copy the smartphone game with iterations instead of gens then I'd rather they sell consoles with for cheaper tied to a monthly plan. You could maybe sell the consoles at 199 or even 99 and update them every two years.

The thing that worries me most is game development, which takes really long for the big AAA titles, and games will come out based on old hardware specs from when they started development.

You are way over thinking this. Of course it makes sense. Upgrade your hardware every 3 years makes sense.

Hmmmmm so Zoetis has been spot on with some stuff but not on others.

That said I believe this is happening regardless. There's so much evidence. The only question for me now is whether its this year or not

Who is going to buy a PS4 knowing that PS4.5 is just around the corner? Who is going to buy a PS4.5 knowing that the games are still going to be held back by the PS4? Who is going to buy PSVR if it is releasing at the same time as PS4.5?

What should I do this fall? Should I buy PSVR for the PS4 and 'enjoy' the shitty ports nobody will care to do anymore in 1 or 2 years? Should I buy PS4.5 to play higher res versions of PS4 games, thus not taking full advantage of the hardware I paid for? Should I get a 2nd job to buy both a PS4.5 and PSVR?

Buying PSVR this fall was an easy decision to make. Now I don't know what to do.

Are you speaking as a developer or a consumer? As a consumer, you won't have to worry about it. It's the developers that have to worry about the different hardware.

Put it on a wine cooler!
PS4 games are going to get bad ports while still holding back what can be done in PS4.5. This is worse for everyone, Everyone!

This is what I'm thinking.

PS4.5 is still PS5. It is meant to be the successor to the previous playstation console before it.

The only difference is that there is overlap with both consoles in the beginning, sharing the same games and peripherals, until PS4 is phased out.

So something like this

2013 (PS4 is announced. PS3 is replaced) -------- 2017 (PS4.5 is announced. Shares the same games with PS4) ------ 2022 (PS4 is phased out. PS4.5 takes over)

I dont think PS4 will be passed out as long as "PS5" is there... no need for it at all.

So we wont end up in situation like now with PS3 vs PS4.

I think a lot of us here don't realize a vast swath of console gamers don't tune into the hobby like we do. So nuanced messages like 'XB1 no longer has always online DRM' doesn't spread.

A new hardware refresh this year is pretty exciting, but interesting that they would split the userbase. Not only will we have console wars but now revision wars

I have a PS4 but I rarely use it for gaming nowadays since I upgraded to an i7 and 970, it has just become my Netflix box.
