So many people keep mentioning the existing sales. The vanilla PS4 is dead the second Neo releases. Nobody in their right mind is gonna buy an old outdated model when a new one that is 2-3x more powerful exists for a little extra $ more.
People really want them to pointlessly preserve a few months of sales? I think its stupid. There will be millions of eyes watching your event at E3. Its in NA as well were you sell a lot of consoles. Show off the Neo and start taking preorders so that you push millions out the door at launch.
Both Nintendo and Sony are making a mistake for not taking advantage of E3 marketing imo. Especially Nintendo.. who has no existing sales at all.
Huh, what did I play it on?
What about you guys? Anyone else here played Uncharted 4 on a console that looked and played great?
I dunno man...I'm pretty much a Sony fan. Like I get a lot of stuff on PS and only PS. During PS3 era, you would say the opposite here no doubt, it was "MSGaf" or whatever. It's just the more popular console and currently Sony is dominating the hardcore markets in most territories. I would say the majority of GAF is fairly against Neo, and it is only recently that more people are warming up to it. When Neo speculation first hit, it was pretty much all negative. I don't think there is any bias, just natural changes of makers leaders and the type of consumer that's posting more.Yeah, it's just embarrassing how you become an outcast for even speculating that Sony might be doing something sub-optimal on Gaf.
Andrew House has confirmed to the Financial Times that a PlayStation 4 Neo is in development.
It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4, he said. We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle.
All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4,
Without a real graphical showcase like God of War 4 or Horizon launching this year it would've been a tough sell. Launching it with Horizon and having God of War 4 launch just about a month later will make for an exciting early 2017.
this is not true at all, the cheapest sku will rule sales wise.So many people keep mentioning the existing sales. The vanilla PS4 is dead the second Neo releases. Hardware is the most exciting though.
All games after mid to late September must take advantage of neo. There will be plenty to show when Sony actually decides to show it off

You're not making any sense, and refuse to see other peoples point when countering yours. Fact is not everyone wants, or can spend $400 to $500 on a console. Those people are perfectly happy with a sub $300 or cheaper PS4. Neo is not aimed at those gamers. It is aimed at the gamers who want, and can afford an extra $100 to $200 on a console.
Look at sales number. They just don't back up your rhetoric. PS4 is still selling like hotcakes.
Do you think pc gamers stopped buying GTX 980s or GTX 970s when the 1080 was announced.
Some people might be hyped for it but not everyone will jump in right away. And even if everyone all of a sudden stop buying OG PS4 and start buying up Neo, what's the problem? Sony makes both!

- We don't know if this is a bad move
- We don't know if this will matter to most consumers
- We don't know if a more powerful platform just 4 years after launch (Scropio) is a good move
- We don't know what NX even is
I think it's best to just try and collect as much info as possible and realize how baseless most of our speculation is. I do think we are getting ahead of ourselves here because when it's all said and done, is the games that sell the hardware.
this is not true at all, the cheapest sku will rule sales wise.
All games will run on neo.
If the choice is to buy a $300 console in winter to run games sub-optimally or buy a better $400 console less than a year later, I think some folks might just wait.. It's the same argument for the Wii U and NX.
Based on:
Wouldn't that suggest that not all games have to take advantage of Neo's extra power?
Yes. All the games that released before the Neo comes out do not have to have a Neo patch.
To be fair, that's not what he meant by new hardware.Need more hardware?
Wouldn't that suggest that not all games have to take advantage of Neo's extra power?
You're very confused if you think every person looking to buy a console fits into that one boat.
Tinfoil hat time.
Did they get wind of Scorpio's specs and decide to make adjustments? Surely not.
Imagine if MS announces the 6TF Scorpio at E3, good bye PlayStation, not only will they be totally screwed in NA in sales but also WW. You really fucked up Sony!
What about, like...the games?
Yes. All the games that released before the Neo comes out do not have to have a Neo patch.

Specifically said "some folks".
According to the leaked docs though those released in September must have a patch, which eluded to the feeling in the month it comes out games need to get a patch. So technically possible to buy the console one day, and 5 days later have a new PS4 game without a Neo mode (until patched).

Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.
There is no adjustment there have always been two pills one blue and one red.
Joke Post?
Spill on Andromeda and I will reciprocate. =)
Games like Infamous: Second Son do not have to have a Neo patch, therefore House can't say every game will take advantage of the hardware. I think that's what he was getting at...
Based on:
Wouldn't that suggest that not all games have to take advantage of Neo's extra power?
Nah, dev kits are out. I wouldn't expect any drastic changes if I were you
Then you know that argument doesn't apply for good sales for PS4 and Neo moving forward.
Good then. You solved your own mystery of the strategy. Well done.
I hate to break it to you, but a lot of games are often presented on PC's at higher resolutions than current consoles can perform i.e. watch dogs, witcher 3, division
Wow, a lot of you guys have gone off the deep end lol
The Carnival of Stupid is back in town, gotta love E3.
Wasn't there a story out about how the ps4 was only 4 gigs of ram until shortly before launch?
SonyGaf everyone.
This time, han shot second
i disagree. I don't think a ton of people will go for a Neo at say $500 over a base at half that. You are bunching a ton of consumers into a tiny tiny mindset. So many people keep mentioning the existing sales. The vanilla PS4 is dead the second Neo releases. Nobody in their right mind is gonna buy an old outdated model when a new one that is 2-3x more powerful exists for a little extra $ more.

What are the chances that Sony lets MS announce their console first to see how the audience reacts?
SonyGaf everyone.
I think there will definitely be people like that but I think you're overestimating how big they are. The majority of gamers with such a mindset are probably mostly PC gamers. Considering that this is the first console generation where the clearly most powerful console has also been the best selling, I don't think console gamers in general care much, especially those jumping into the game so late. I think they largely care more about price, and $300 seems to be the tipping point for many based on last generation sales trend.
With the Wii U->NX situation it's different in that NX games will not be supported on Wii U but all PS4 games will be supported on both normal and neo.
Ok so dismissing fit the fact that Somy has a reputation for not doing this and running love Demos on actual HW this gen if your rebuttal is "everybody does it" then why on earth would that impact sales? You're basically arguing against your own point. If something is so commonplace it wouldn't impact sales. You keep shifting your arguement so much that it's to the point where you're essentially disproving yourself now.
Yeah, I'm not saying it's going to be a ton of people. E3 just killed my hyper boner because everything shown is just going to run better on new hardware.
Is it confirmed NX has no backward compatibility?
This isn't true at all, people buy last generation iPhones because they will be a hundred or couple hundred bucks cheaper. People also buy slightly outdated PC parts once they become more affordable to upgrade their rigs. Or they will receive them as hand me downs. The entire point of this is to build an ecosystem where people can upgrade every couple of years. You don't announce the product until the marketing lifecycle can begin and you aren't impacting the sales of current devices for a while. See - phones, laptops, tablets etc
