You have one?
Given Neo-enabled titles can start being released from September 21st 2016 onwards, I'd be tempted to believe it's coming this year.
That is pure speculation by the author. Don't expect to them to say anything.
People who think this is good news for xbox are wrong.if xbox talks about scorpion then sony only needs to one up them during psx.
Sony knows what they r doing.
Probably won't happenI must play FFXV on the Neo. Let it be out on or before September 30th.
I'm not expecting dual-branding on game cases, I expect them to mention "PS4" and that's it. I do expect the game features boxes on the back to state "enhanced for Neo" or similar, in the way games currently state number of players, supported resolutions, etc.And if that is a lock now and not going to change would you agree with me that game cases will have Neo (or whatever it is called) mentioned on there? Spec/feature enhancements and the like?
For me this means it will be revealed at least a month before that date (in-line with previous slims) i.e. Gamescom at the latest.
Sure but Andrew House did only state they won't be showing it, didn't he? Sony didn't show PS4 at its comprehensive reveal, neither. Major Nelson even made fun of the fact.
This is uncharted territory though. I don't remember another time where a president of a (console) company has confirmed a new product to state they aren't revealing it yet?

Probably not coming out till 2017.
Out of curiosity, how would Sony be able to one-up them if their Neo hardware design is already established?
Nothing is established until its in full production.
Dev kits are a minimum spec most likely....Sony can do what they want .
Its not queensberry rules, you can tell devs what your plan is, you can change it. They already said they had 2 options in the leak.
Sony have only told us its name and its more expensive.

based on what?
It's just that easy, eh?

Sony should design the hardware carefully to not piss off the devs. I highly recommend sticking to the exact same APU design with beefier GPU and higher clocked jaguar CPU. PS4 games should run natively on the new machine no extra work needed. also games enhancements should be scaled easily to Neo. they are winning the hardware battle already and having the mindshare, they should keep this instead of battling MS on a mere 30% rumored difference in power.
The bold makes no sense given the 21st September date for Neo-enabled titles though. How does it work that games enhanced and programmed on a 2.1GHz Jaguar+36CU Polaris dev kit *right now* if the Neo comes out say March next year and has Zen?
Also Andrew House stated they have costed Neo into this years financials and said it won't loose money. This surely is coming sooner rather than later. Given the above spec I expect $399 max unless they put a SSD in or something.
PS4 will likely drop to $299If zen runs same APU as jaguar, maybe its not an issue, also it depends how far Zen is along with AMD and Sony. Remember zen is coming out in 2016 as well supposedly.
If its Jaguar and 399 max, current Ps4 is 350, may as well ditch the OG Ps4, what is the point of having 2 consoles 50 $ difference ??????
What is the purpose of the Neo, if its struggles to hit 60 FPS in many games, Phil will be laughing and stupid Sony is back.
I don't think PS4 will have any problem selling, somehow. It does seem a bit like the worst of both worlds. People know it's coming, so many will want to wait rather than buy a standard PS4, but we don't know what it is or what benefits it will offer. It's all the downside of announcing without any of the hype building.
really doubt an Xbox one slim is less than $299 especially if it supports 4K (media not games) as rumoredVery strange to announce a new PS4 that is more powerful but no price (just costlier) and no release date all while selling current PS4 systems. This could be something Microsoft could use to their advantage. I say Microsoft keep their mouths shut about anything in regards to Scorpio and just come out with a redesigned XBox One Slim for $249 or $199 at E3.

Sony should design it to sell to consumers. Your right with the GPU, but if the CPU is crap then they will probably loose customers to MS as the Neo will struggle to run some games well enough imo
You still not answered the question, what is the purpose of the NEO ?
Ps4 does 1080p30 comfortably for most games, it cant get near 1080p60 for games like Witcher 3 as its CPU is CRAP.
Neo also will not do 1080p60 for Witcher 3 (dev allowing) with a 30 % improved CPU Jaguar IMO - thats not an enthusiast console, so what is it ?
If scorpio does, then its switch time.
It wasn't announced, it was just verified to exist. An official announcement would actually have price and availability.
I chose to respond only to the price question. I don't care to speculate about why Neo existsYou still not answered the question, what is the purpose of the NEO ? What does the extra achieve ?

The next performance level is obvious, 1080p60 CAPABLE for all 3rd party games.
they should sort their priorities, I think people are really overestimating the importance of "Power" in the console space, they might lose a very small number of enthusiasts to MS. That won't compare to the headache of increased burden/costs on the developers. also I doubt Neo/Scorpio will run games on 4k so performance differences will be extra few fpses higher on Scorpio or more stable fps on MS machine (giving that rumored specs are true). I feel its not worth it to destroy your good will with the developers or even your current userbase.
It seems like Sony is considering this which is a very good thing, the interesting part is what MS is willing to do with supporting X1.

EDIT: I want to add that historically, Playstations always sell based on their overall brand power WW. MS having a more powerful system won't change this fact at all. People are just familiar with the brand and very comfortable with it, that's why their consoles always sell 80m+ and considered the most successful gaming brand in history.
Power 4 TF, 5 TF, 6 TF it does not matter if games are running slowly with a Jaguar CPU.
Power is not the only important factor, good hardware design is, and a bottleneck design is not good for running games.
Allot of people switched 360 to Ps4 this gen, I was one, MS want them back, if Neo does not run games like an enthusiast would expect...then goodnight.

Why is there a cynical assumption that Sony is "scared" of Scorpio and pro-actively reacting to an unannounced- paper spec- console with target performance number- set to release much later?
If anything- it's quite obvious why Sony wouldn't overload their conference with information. For all the pomp and circumstance from critics that for some reason still regurgitate the tried and true hyperbole: "PlayStation 4 has no exclusives!" - this E3 will be the one to try and challenge that rhetoric if every thing we're being told comes to fruition.
The last three years, Sony's first party studio output has been titled. Studios have rebooted, entire projects have been canned, priorities have been shifted, and heads have rolled. However, this is the year where we are officially seeing: Bend, Guerilla, Japan, Media Molecule, Polyphony, Santa Monica, AND Sucker Punch with some sort of reveal planned. The most important of which is - there is no "timed exclusivity", "sequel on another platform"; "paid to be exclusive" shenanigans..... AND not to mention the myriad of second party projects Sony has- this show seems to be the most "exclusive" heavy PlayStation conference yet.
AND ALL PEOPLE WANT TO TALK ABOUT IS NEO? Why? The best way to disrespect your first party send-offs is to divert the media's attention to an entirely new box.

Sometimes, some of you guys take the competitive angle of this industry way too far. All these little Sony can one-up this and Microsoft can one-up that comments are crazy.
Realistically, both companies will have roadmaps of what they want to do, and outside of minor details, they'll follow them.
Not everything is a boxing match.
They commented in making a more powerful box before sony did. They already have not kept their mouths shut. They have been vocal about it.
some of these fucking comments man.... lol
People always bring the issue of these weak Jaguar CPUs and yet the most impressive games I have seen this gen is on PS4. Uncharted, the Order and Driveclub.
What makes you say that Jaguar CPU is not suitable for 4TF GPU? do you make games? I believe that there are some smart people at Sony/MS who would know when if Jaguar CPU is good with the GPU or not.
I'm not the one to judge that, since I know nothing about making games.
I was thinking that if PS4 Neo is targeted towards the more dedicated gamers who want the premium experience, why not make other upgrades to give us the whole package?
In addition to beefier GPU/RAM speed etc, it would be cool if they could include at minimum a 1TB SSHD, and something akin to an elite controller.
Out of curiosity, how would Sony be able to one-up them if their Neo hardware design is already established?
