There is one thing I don't get about the new xbone and ps4. Neither one of them can either do 1080p that well, how the hell do they expect to pull off 4k?
I keep asking for it to be explained in a way it makes sense...
How is it that Sony have had AMD create the Jaguar/36CU APU for the dev kits and leaked dev docs that go into great spec detail if all along they had AMD also doing a Zen based APU?
I mean the costs and hassle sound ridiculous to me and make the PS3 design seem conservative!

What? There is one thing I don't get about the new xbone and ps4. Neither one of them can either do 1080p that well, how the hell do they expect to pull off 4k?
Yep after a while you will be force to update because of power , OS , games etc etc .
So it will become just like every other consumer electronics .
It'd be nteresting to hear your opinion on this theory

I prescribe to the belief that Sony and Microsoft have access to the same vendors, chipsets, architectures, and roadmaps. I'm channeling my inner conspiracy theorist here, but I believe Sony has multiple machines in prototype.
Plan A is the one we currently know of- Jaguar upclocked, 4.2 TF CPU. Target price $399
Plan B is the one we want but aren't willing to pay for. A Zen-Lite CPU, 5-6 TF GPU. Target price $499.
Here's where I say something that has absolutely no basis in reality and is completely nonfactual and more akin to Harry Potter X Marvel Fanfiction than any thing remotely resembling the truth:
I think Sony saw how the internet responded to Neo's specs and how the reception contrasted with Scorpio. Podcasts, forum posts, and social media was rife with criticism about Neo's performance delta with Scorpio. This triggered them to reevaluate and go with Plan B.
That's all.
Kinda sounds like a modern with the times way of doing things!
No matter what the console had inside a $599 console would be met by second job/arrogant Sony blog articles and posts on forums.
Let's be realistic, 499$/€ would be a death sentence. I get the "premium" argument, but that price is still too high in the console market.

Documentation is for the current early dev kits, which were built on hardware that existed at the time they were putting it together. It's standard for the first dev kits to have different silicon.
It reads to me that the dev kit Digital Foundry describe is more in-line with later near final dev kits. Like the below PS4 one. Early dev kits are usually PC based and with Neo being a mid-gen bump it makes sense to skip early dev kits.

Not for entusiasts. The two are meant to co-exist together. Sony does not expects this model to sell anywhere close to the base model. Of this I am certain.
Maybe a ratio of 1 to 10 or something like that.
Scorpio and Neo will do 1080p easily.
They'll market them as 4K consoles but just a handful of indie titles will be 4K native.
It's what console manufacturers have always done. They're not lying, just not being 100% truthful.

I truly dont understand why this concept, at least what Sony is seemingly trying to do, is so difficult to understand?
I'm wondering how this all works long term...
So if every neo game has to be able to run on a ps4 ....
Then will every ps5 game need to be able to run on a neo?
And if so....your limiting yr ps5 games to, complexity wise, ps4 levels?
That is fucked....
I'm not really an expert on other consoles, but something being more than $350 seems like it wouldn't sell very well. I don't think 4K TVs are as widespread as Sony is maybe imagining, so it might be a while before anyone would opt to get a better "version" of the system.
And even then, if you already have a PS4 I don't really see why you'd want to upgrade.

Unless sony starts a subsidy plan for playstation neo... i doubt they will get the same response as what's expected with hardware in the mobile market
To be fair, while there is very obviously work involved and people saying that were insane, being ready to be show games within 4-5 months of receiving development kits would suggest that it isn't nearly as hard as moving over from PS3 to PS4.
You're still beating this drum? Does it even matter now that we know it is real?

Honestly, Sony has a lot to answer about. The new consoles should be limited to upgrades every 3 or 4 years. Any sooner than that and you risk killing the market with oversaturation.

So by my understanding, this is where we're at:
- Sony will release the Neo Q4 2016 which is 4.1/4.2tf, its a mid-gen cycle.
- Microsoft will release the Scorpio Q4 2017 which is 6tf machine, its a new gen for Microsoft.
Whos getting fucked:
Sony - no longer the most powerful console for probably 2 years (at least?).
Xbox One owners - New gen means drop in support.
Am I being wrong here? did I miss anything?
Yeah, thats what I thought to, but its really people posting essay on here like they are truly worried about whats happening. So to me, that seems genuine instead of posters that are just negative and like to put out negative energy on the internet. Its strange, Sony wants to milk this generation as long as possible. Putting out a platform that is sounding like it even boots up the exact same way pretty much ensures youre good to go with PS4 or Neo for a good while. If Neo starts selling really well, wouldnt that be more of an incentive for PS5 to be pushed back even further?Me either , it's weird. It's pretty straight forward, people just like to screw the sky is falling over nothing I guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony isn't showing it because they are adjusting internals after it leaked that Microsoft is shooting for 6tf. They have been on top the entire generation and I don't think the want to release something that isn't superior to what Microsoft will do
Its great, I for one appreciated TLOU on Ps4 running at 60 FPS, it handled so sweet. Gimme 60 dammit.
If Neo is a zen + Polaris beast, then 1080p60 will be a lock on all games, god I dont thing I would ever need a new console again unless VR takes off.
Why would we need a ps5 ? Yes I have a 4K TV, but 1080p60 and I am good for many years thank you, I have no interest in 4K at 30 FPS. Good night.
Yep this is disappointing. It will be so hard to find a game that utilizes full power of consoles in the future.I'm wondering how this all works long term...

Well if they are looking at the smartphone market they can see that it slowing down in certain ways .
So 3 to 4 years seem like the perfect amount of time between upgrades .
I can agree with this to an extent... but if the PS5 is targeting to when the power yields are down enough for a 10-12TF+ machine, ray-tracing everything, will be the new mind blowing graphical tech that will make that 1080p/60 picture look much better with much higher fidelity.
So, will these high end estimates for Neo's specs be enough to brute force playing ps3 games?
Overclocked Jaguar is fine. We had 3 years of great gaming with it, and 30% boost in Neo should give us 3 more.
I will mark my calendar, June 2020.
Wait, according to "experts" in all the other threads, there's almost no work involved. All the work is already done and they just need to toggle a few values in a config file. Sony shouldn't have to wait since everything is already done and so easy to just add to existing PS4 games. Hey experts from the other threads saying all you do is change a config file, why is this an issue?
I believe in Plan B.
