Well Koizumi can make it happen now that Miyamoto can't interfere.
Yeah that really needs to come back, so disappointed with how Nintendo has gone backwards in that regard with this series.
As far as changing it, I think going back to Mario 64 and trying to marry the big open hub and large worlds, with some of the detailed platforming of Galaxy and 3D World would be the way to go. Mario has really regressed in terms of presentation and scope since the original Galaxy, so this is a good opportunity to blow it out again.
I'll admit...
...what I saw in the BoTW shrines was pretty impressive for what basically amounts to 2 min mini-dungeons and many who shared my concerns seemed to feel the same way, but at the same time it's pretty clear that the design choice itself compensates for the fact that having 8 to 10 full scale traditional Zelda dungeons (containing complex unique puzzles/obstacles/layouts/themes) in an open-world without just giving the player everything from the start isn't something that meshes well with an open world free roaming style (being physically locked out of dungeons due to lacking certain items goes against what they're trying to do)
I still have a lot of concerns as someone who was invested in the direction the series looked like it was headed pre-ALBW. Plus, I'm just personally not a fan of open world games. I'm sure I'll have fun with BoTH, but I'll probably always yearn for pre-ALBW Zelda games.
If they have to make the same kind of compromises to make an open world 3D Mario work (big circular maps that allow you to get around everything don't mesh with the kind of dense complex level design you'd find in Galaxies 1&2/3DLand&World), I don't want any part of it.
But we already know Zelda is going to have dungeons in addition to the shrines.
