The King of Fighters XIV |OT| ¡VIVA REY DE DINOSAURIOS!

Am I the only one who likes the look of this game? It has an anime like feel to it, similar to phantasy star online 2.

Sure the models need work, but im not against them like some ppl are.

Not at all, i like it a lot too. Though i'll admit it's less due to some technical prowess than just preferring their aesthetic choices over those of certain other games. Technically it's only just 'okay', and i really really wish every character model got the same amount of care and attention the best ones have.

KoFXII is the only KoF that hasn't seen any port outside of one console right? Even 99 and 2000 got PSN release.

It's not perfect obviously, but I actually think on the whole it looks better from an artistic standpoint.

I think the art is the worst part about the graphics in KoF. Some characters look good, but for the most part they don't have an identity or style. The game is not cohesive in the least. Couple that with the average character models and it makes for a game that, in my opinion, does what it needs to to convey the characters and nothing more.

Anyway...any word on the netcode patch?

I was wary from the trailers but when I first saw the game at a meetup, I thought "yeah, I can work with this." It looked pretty faithful to the classic '94 style and good in motion.

Then I went out again yesterday, someone was playing Daimon, and I had flashbacks to the PS2 (trying to picture King from Tekken 5 or 4).

I wasn't crazy about some of the design choices in 13, but I expected them to build on those assets for another game. Guess the economics made sense to scrap and rebuild.

Korean Top player Lacid is streaming.

Thanks man, they are learning so fast. Was watching Madkof the other day and he was beasting with many characters already. Not sure who his mains are yet but Shun'ei and Geese might be two of them, though it's hard to tell since he's always playing a large variety of characters.

It's nice to see Lacid rocking Daimon again.

Good stuff, her combos are pretty easy to get a hang of so she should be fun for beginners as well. You can't play dumb with her though because whiffing special moves = death.

Played a lot of matches with her yesterday. She has good hit confirms and her overhead is amazing. Her DP is very iffy though. The hard version has no invincibility on start up and the light version does seem to have some but more than once I've had people low profile me by doing a crouching LK or whatever on my wake up and she goes straight over them and misses completely. So yeah, not very reliable for me so far.

Her standing CD has full low invincibility, you can go over a ground fireball for example. You can supercancel the dive tackle on the last hit to get more damage. Her punch super has no invincibility but the kick super does, though it doesn't seem all that fast as I've had some issues anti-airing with it.

Neato, that makes for some cute corner combos.

I quite like Alice. Her combos look really cool, her toolset seems nicely well-rounded and she has long range on her buttons. As you said, just don't whiff. Heh heh.

K I'm trying to (forgive if I get this terminology wrong) do this combo with Luong but keep wiffing on the one the moves and im not sure if it is because i cant do it or the game wont let me.

max mode-- (air) qcb-lk/hk -- hp -- hcb-hk/lk (this is where it wiffs)

I'm trying to see all the possibiliites i can use with luong to get out of the corner as well as start a combo chain

Generally speaking, a move that floats the opponent can only be followed up with a single hit, or a move that gives another juggle point after the blow.

With Luong, her air qcb+k floats the enemy, right? Hitting them with a HP would take the juggle point, and give no additional ones, so they shouldn't be strikable by anything else on the way down.

There are some moves in KOF that juggle regardless of if the opponent is in a juggle state or not. We refer to those as "Anywhere Juggles", which means they'll catch the opponent in any in-air state, even if they can't be juggled under normal conditions. Example of those moves are Yuri's Air throw after her flip, and Vice's EX "Sleeve" move, and her Air Super.

With Luong, she has no "Anywhere Juggle" moves that we know of. For her, a juggle would be grounded qcb+HK, do the same special again with LK, and then do the super to catch them.

So after putting in time with Leona, the last member of my main team, my order is definitely Andy-Goro-Leona.

Is it just me or does Leona's basic bnb to whatever do more damage than all of her other fancier stuff? I combed through all the combo vids I could find and outside of the 100%(which I finally got the hang of) everything seemed to do less.

Also, any new Leona tricks I should be aware of? I played her seriously from 96-98 but I didn't much care for her after that.

I cant seem to connect to anything. trying party vs now

edit :connected to team, like 3 seconds of lag but all in all good connection. got really fucking destroyed though by the other player..

Fingers crossed for the other modes playing as excellent as party battle.

Damage scales very heavily in XIV so long combos are often not worth it because what ends up happening is that you get more damage on the front but what comes later scales a ton, especially supers. And then you also have to factor in the risk of doing something longer since the harder it is the higher the chances for messing up.

For Leona keep in mind that her air super no longer has the huge amount of invincibility it had before, her ground super does have upper body invincibility though so you can go under fireballs etc. Also the heavy version of her running slash is about zero on block iirc so not even 1 frame command grabs will be able to punish you.

Well my night has been decided. Thanks for the heads up

Edit: Ppl in the dream cancel discord also reporting great matches now.

Good to hear. I'll have to start playing again. Haven't really had the time or drive to play any fighters this week with the Nioh and Battlefield 1 betas going on.

I expect this thread to be a little more lively as ranked becomes viable. People love their e-rankings. I hope my internet is up when I get home so I can give them some wins :p

Really happy with the patch. Before, I couldn't play anyone in ranked/lobbies without slowdown or huge delay. If both players have a good connection, it feels really smooth now.

Played for about an hour and only one guy felt kinda awful, rest were perfect. So wohoo! It wont fix crappy connections but this is definitely gonna be pretty good.

Netcode is much better although I'm still having trouble getting into ranked matches. I just rattled off 7 wins before a dude rage quit.

Thanks for the netcode impressions guys, ppl on SRK and reddit are also reporting very positive results.

Work can't end soon enough -_-

I knew about V-slasher so I've been a little more careful with it but it still seems useful which I was worried about. Running slash is really good to know. I'll have to incorporate it more now.

Netcode seems great now. I wasn't able to find a ranked match in 2 or 3 searches (Though I set connections to 3 and up), but I was able to get into a room of east coast series matches.

Every match in there ran great overall. I'm able to use my Leona Hop and pressure game just like offline. I was able to hop, fly about, dive, and jab into qcf+p with Mian with no real difference. One connection got spotty for a few seconds, where I had to wonder if it was someone on my network or a lag switch, but it cleared up and returned to normal.

We still all got kicked out of room once the host left, though.

All in all, I'm very impressed. This is more solid than my matches online from the other day were. With my connection ranking as a "3" and my opponent a "2", I still felt like I was playing a normal match, not failing to land stuff due to online like I felt ALL THE TIME in UMVC3, lol. (There, the matches LOOKED fine, but my Felicia Toy Touch combos would NEVER WORK. It's like there was a small enough difference that confirms I'd have at 100% offline were 0 there...)

Hearing good things about the patch, so I guess that means I'll be hopping back on to try and learn how to play. When I messed around last week, I tentatively decided on using Iori, Mature, and Geese. Any general advice out there for someone who's coming from a primarily Street Fighter based background?

Happy with the netcode. Had 5 great (GREAT!) matches so far and one with kinda bad slowdown.

In other news, my Mian is trash =(
She's not pulling her weight.

Switching to Nakoruru/Kula/Love Heart for now.

I'd swap Nakoruru and Kula's slots. Kula does much better in first. Nakoruru works anywhere, but she can be pretty threatening with meter.

I'm confused. I know there are much less people playing this than SFV, so why the matchmaking feels so much faster ? Capcom fucked something, I hope they'll fix it soon...

HEY, SHE'S SHY, DON"T LET HER HEAR YOU SAY THAT! ')

I find myself enjoying sticking her in a 1st or second place. cr.LP into qcf+p seems like a very safe way to fish for confirms into her DMs, qcb+HP after a CD is apparently safe-ish, (Safe if it hits, might be able to hit her out of the longer startup when people git gudder) and a good way to fish for wall bounces, and she just overall has a solid ground normals game... and that's all before you add in her crazy flying silliness. Oh, and her sweep is amazing.

SFV also has MM between PC and PS4. Crossing 2 networks is guaranteed to cause some kind of additional strain and issues. And, real talk, SNK's lobby system seems to have gotten a nice bit more focus than whatever SF's is. The worse oversight is no host migration when the main player leaves... but other than that, everything seems very smartly developed.

I'd be glad to play some with you. We had a pretty good connection in SF5.

One tiny problem is that the game doesn't enforce connexion filter. Even setting it at 4 bars, I just had a 1 bar underwater match, unplayable.
