Kotaku Sources: Destiny 2 coming to PC [UPDATE: Loads of extra info]

Obviously it'll bum me out a little to lose my Guardians (despite what non-characters they are) and my stuff, but if that's what's needed to make D2 a really strong foundation to build the rest of the series around, it's a price worth paying

This makes what they did with the microtransaction silver stuff seem pretty scummy in retrospect. It was supposed to fund continued updates throughout the year, but last year was pretty dry for content. They also started the microtransactions right around the same time they dramatically reduced the team size and shifted focus almost entirely to D2. Now it's unclear if that stuff will even carry over to D2.

While destiny can be fun, it's pretty clear at this point that investing it in beyond just "I'm having fun at this minute" is kinda nuts. They've proven again and again they don't make decisions with their players in mind.

With the death of the licensed games business and the decline of Skylanders, the Activision part of Activision Blizzard has basically nothing going for them outside of CoD, so they're probably not too upset given Destiny is on an upward trajectory.

Oh, didn't realise Skylanders was in decline :-o

You mean you didn't know extra gpu power means more AI?

Yes because the only thing that 60fps needs is GPU. /s Its hard to do 60fps. Its takes serious compromise on console hardware in all facets of a game to maintain 60. I'd much rather see that power go to other things.

Destiny plays incredibly well already. You don't need 60. Quite frankly I actively dislike how 60 fps looks and I think its vastly overrated for how it affects gameplay.

I feel like you started ok then got trump crazy towards the end of this post

I would disagree here. Obviously, a need to implement systems that allow for both microtransactions & cosmetics was necessary. I don't think the intent has changed (have the MT's negate paywalls for content drops during the year), just that when they are going to be able to pull off their plans has.

Sorry to hear that, but, I don't see how thats anyone's problem...

Its a loot game, I thought we all knew the deal.

I too want a fresh, new game. But unless Bungie can give us a sequel with as much content as the sum total of what Destiny Year 3 is offering (I DOUBT THAT VERY MUCH) I really don't see why they can't replicate old areas with a brand new engine.

But like Shinobi was saying, introducing the older areas slowly through the scope of the newer ones.

More game is better than less,

To be fair, a solid 70-80% of the content in Destiny is irrelevant at the moment, so I don't really expect a new game to have that amount of content. I also don't expect Destiny 2 to launch with 31 PvP maps.

Destiny feels so good at 30 it would probably feel amazing at 60. Bungie you have to do it.

Look at how much better 343 made Halo feel without you. It's because of the 60fps.

It sounds like the best parts of Destiny 1s story, weren't actually in the game (talking about you, The Final Word), I hope they work on that for Destiny 2.

And, let us fly our cool looking ships please.

If what Shinobi said is true tho, then it makes sense if the live team has to do a balancing act of learning/working the new tools and then having to go back and create content for stuff that wont 1:1 carry over. Its be wasted effort to be blunt.

Trust me Im just as salty that the live team hasnt output anything significant, but if it means a better Destiny 2, then fuck it Im game.

Deeper class system with more abilities, more than "Melee, Grenade, Ultimate" that all classes had in some variations, and opportunities for synergy between players. Also, more weapon variations with weird abilities or more alien design and feel, something that shoots anything else than bullets. These two things are whats left for me on my Destiny 2 wishlist.

If they go with bigger worlds to explore, interesting lore and story, PC version and preciously mentioned stuff, it basically then checks all my boxes for a sell. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Take everything I've earned, specially if it leads to a better game in the end.

But I have no faith in them making Destiny 2 as monumental as the jump from D1 to D2, that's just crazy talk.

Fuck me, that sounds 30fps as hell. I was so excited thinking D2 would be 60fps because of how the first game is broken up into these perfect little chunks. Massive open worlds with players phasing in and out though? Ugh...

Because I'd like to see a fun game. Or does my opinion count less than yours?

Destiny is many things, "not fun" isn't one of them. Pretty much the only thing it has going for it is the fun minute-to-minute gameplay. Probably the best feeling FPS on consoles. That's straddling a fine line between opinion and objective fact.

Not sure I agree with that number but it goes to prove my point even more, one of DGAF's main complaints is that older raids, strikes aren't being tuned to match the current Light levels and thus rendered relevant.

The value proposition of a returning player to pay full price for less content than what they've been enjoying makes no business sense to me.

Have legacy maps, have classic weapons, give new players to the franchise a taste of what epicness Year 1-3 was.

You clearly don't play the game, so yes I'd say my opinion actually does hold more weight than yours.

Saying "No, it isn't" is just nonsense.

You're right, I don't play the game, because this thread is about Destiny 2.

I played the demo at launch on the 360, and the Xbox One. I had more than 20 hours between the two different consoles and various friends. I fully understand I'm not getting the full experience at a lower level since I have played many MMOs in the past.

But I'm allowed to form an opinion based on what I played.

I think the main team has been working on this since this time last year.

They got the bulk of a 750+ man team, plus other studios like High Moon and Vicarious Visions. Activision gon make DAMN sure it comes out this September, come hell or high water.

Bro you are just shitposting. Its obvious you have no real criticisms of the game, and nothing of value would be left with you leaving the thread and not coming back to it.

And with your edit its apparent you didnt even get to the endgame. Why are you here besides to do a driveby shitpost?

Destiny on current gen consoles probably could've dealt with "massive open worlds" if not held back by ps360.

so i mean you're probably getting 30 fps on console either way, barring whatever pro/scorpio is able to bring

Ah, so your comment of "No, it isn't" in relation to fun gameplay was about Destiny 2, huh? So that means you've played a game that's not releasing until late 2017 and not actually talking about the Destiny that's available now. Real good logic there!

Get out of here with that crap, your posts have been a complete waste of time.

It's unclear to me, Is destiny 2 a PC exclusive? that would be just outright stupid if that were the case.

There's nothing posted here to infer that it's a PC exclusive. Just that going forward it will be PC and current-gen systems.

Also, I'd be pretty bummed if characters didn't transfer over. At least let me take the character from level 1 again and retain the look. Have some dumb narrative event such as, "space crash caused your stats to reset and lose all your guns".

I hope that everything about getting away from the navigation hub is true. Nothing more obnoxious than constantly bouncing between the Tower and the navigation hub for inventory management, etc.

Seems like they have learned some lessons, for which I am very grateful.

Put me on #teamfreshstart. I want a new game with more differentiated classes and new weapon types. I also don't want to still be using Bad Juju.

I actually stopped buying Destiny content. I made a very active decision not to buy Taken King or Rise of Iron because I thought the base mechanics were fine, but really hoped the sequel would be what actually made this the game I so desperately want it to be. I am excited for the sequel, and hope its "more" not "less" if that makes sense?

Please no. Destiny is one of the best playing shooters ever made. Going sixty would completely change the feel of the game and it doesn't need to be changed. Use that power for scale, AI and interactivity. Sixty is pointless in a game that already plays as well as Destiny does.
Then play on PS4 if you want 30fps.

It would change the feel in a good way and make it feel more accurate and responsive.

If they try to lick the framerate to 30 on PC then I might not even get it. I highly doubt they would. People get a PC to play games at 60fps.......that is one of the main reasons I did.

In his defence... Bungie has a signature tuning dedicated to console analog controls, aim assist and the locked framerate. It just feels very good to aim and shoot. This is coming from me who is terrible at aiming on consoles.

I'm not saying the tradeoff isn't worth it, just that Bungie's signature feel will likely be lost on PC KB+M and high FPS.

Nah it won't. Halo CE was fine, Halo Online (Even tho it wasn't them most of the assets were theirs).

Plus if it sucks with KB/M you can always use a controller.
