River City Tokyo Rumble (3DS) finally available on Amazon! But...

This post makes me sad. It reminds me of the Penny Arcade where Gabe is talking to Tycho about how much Warhammer is a ripoff of Warcraft.

River City Ransom was the first NES game my brother and I ever owned.

Pretty sure they're kidding, and/or the tenses got mixed and what was meant was that if you played Scott Pilgrim, you got a taste for the kind of gameplay RCR pioneered. Part of the point of being a Scott Pilgrim fan is getting that it's full of references to games people should celebrate.

So I contacted DealTavern and here is there response:

Thank you for contacting us. Please note there are TWO versions of River City: Tokyo Rumble available for purchase. 1 version is the standard version without key chain & priced at $33.02 while the Limited edition with the key chain costs $39.99 & comes with the key chain. You can view the limited edition through here:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HFRICLE/?tag=neogaf0e-20

You can view the standard edition here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXLJN8I/?tag=neogaf0e-20

We hope this information helps you further. If there is anything else that we can help you with, please let us know and we will do our best to help you further. Thank you for your inquiry once again. Have a wonderful day. Sincerely,

My question was if they were indeed selling a copy of the game with the keychain. I'm going to assume from this answer that they are. It still isn't a definite yes, but I don't think they would go to the trouble of listing the different versions that they are listed as sellers for.

I also contacted Deal Tavern when I saw they were a dealer on Amazon.ca. They said that the version that they are selling does not include the keychain.

I just received my order from Deal Tavern in the mail. No key chain. I purchased my copy yesterday from the eBay link posted here when it was priced at $32.17, and even though I expected no key chain they should have said as much in their auction.

Just a heads up for those wanting the key chain.

here's hoping that the they're still offering the keychain through that link. I think someone else mentioned that natsume's amazon storefront wasn't offering shipping to canada, so this is pretty much my only recourse if I want a keychain.

What is the Japanese name of this game? Seems to be a load of Japanese Kunio-kun games on 3DD.

Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun SP: Rantou Kyousoukyoku.

It's the third Kunio-kun game released for 3DS and it's a sequel/expansion to the first 3DS game, Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-Kun Special, which is a remake of the arcade game released worldwide as Renegade.

Whoa! So, this is based on Renegade instead of being an original game?

IIRC, this game is actually Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-Kun Special, the remake, and not Rantou Kyousoukyoku, the sequel.

Edit: Looks like I was mistaken, I guess.

I'd really like the other three to be localized. There's one set in feudal Japan, a straight RCR remake and a compilation of the NES games and their GBA remakes that's been announced for Japan.

It's an original game that serves as a sequel to the 3DS remake of Renegade. Yeah, it's kinda confusing.

Mechanically speaking, all the 3DS games are all very similar. Aside from this game, they include:

-the Renegade remake (Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun SP)
-an eShop-only spinoff game starring Riki (Riki Densetsu)
-another eShop-only game with a fantasy RPG motif (Nekketsu Mahou Monogatari)
-a followup to an old "RCR but as a period drama" game (Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki)

and there are two other releases that still aren't out:

-a River City Ransom remake (Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari SP, out late October)
-a compilation containing all 11 Famicom games (Kunio-Kun Nekketsu Famicom Complete Collection, no release date but could be out by the end of the year)

I get the feeling that this will be hard to come by later on so if you're interested in the game better buy it now.

So this game releases in Europe this week on the eShop for £24.99...nice to know Nintendo of Europe/Nintendo UK have bothered getting the word out. I'm sure Gurumin 3D will also get zero attention from them.

I'll never understand NoE's attitude to games that they aren't distributing themselves. Nintendo takes a 30% cut from digital sales anyway, so it's not like they don't have an incentive to get people out there buying quality content on their platforms.

So this isn't the same game as the one dropping next month in Japan, right?

I believe that one has a 1v1 versus mode that I'm curious about

Sorry for the bump, but I just beat the game this morning and... it kind of sucks? I don't know. I'm a big fan of the original and the excellent GBA remake, but this one seems to be lacking a lot of the charm those games had.

Every area looks more or less identical. The same handful of stores, the same general layout... where's my open pit to throw guys into? Where's my saunas? Where's my stats to grind? The game is RCR if it was developed for short attention spans and smart phones. There's basically nothing here and no reason to go back after beating it. I'm super disappointed.

Do the versions that come with a keychain have any identifying characteristics, like a unique sku, artwork or stickers? The version that I picked up is supposed to be a keychain version, but I have a feeling it's actually not - and if I open it, I may not be able to return it.

CeeCee from Natsume said on Gamefaqs that "There's a sticker on boxes (on the plastic shrinkwrap, not on the art) stating the keychain is packed inside."

Thanks! There's no sticker on the one I bought, which means no keychain by the sound of it.

The sticker is a UPC code on the back of the case with text that indicates if the keychain is packed in.

Hang on so theres a remake of Renegade for the 3ds on the JPN eShop??

I ordered from Deal Taven, and it arrived today. Came with a key chain, but the key chain was packaged outside of the game box. Just came separate in the package.

That's interesting, considering Dead to Rights got it from DT with no keychain. I assume you went through their Amazon storefront and not eBay like DtR did, right?

Yes, through their Amazon storefront. The day of release, sometime in the afternoon the Deal Tavern stock was available.

Strange though that it''s not inside the package. That means Natsume might have provided key chains outside of their copies?

I was afraid of this.
Dammit.

Seems to be the case. I ordered from the Deal Tavern listing that specified the keychain and it came outside the packaging.

Stoked to try this out tonight!

Wow, I had a similar feeling when starting this and from what you're saying, it doesn't look to improve along the game... and the fact it's 1P only isn't good.

I bought the game thinking it was a RCR remake but found out quickly that it isn't...

did anyone else order the keychain version from dealtavern through amazon.com? did it in fact come with the keychain inside? I got my copy but there's no sticker saying that there's a keychain inside it. I tried shaking it a little to see if it sounded like there was more than just a manual, but I couldn't really tell.

I ordered from Dealtavern's Amazon.com listing, but the keychains were in the shipping box, not the actual 3DS case.

My order from Play-Asia (bought on the first day of ordering) finally arrived yesterday (and I missed the mailman so they sent it back to the post office for delivery signature.) And, of course, I'm getting no Kunio keychain. I like Play-Asia, but I sure wish the Amazon order had gone through as intended (I was on the link within hours) and I really hope Natsume has a better plan for future boxed titles.
