Oh boy.. looks like I got a lemon. I just unboxed my headset and set everything up as shown in the quick setup guide. Every time I turn on the headset, I hear the beep but only the two lights on the back strap of the headset turn on. After a couple of seconds the headset turns itself of and I get a "VR Headset disconnected" notification.

Did anyone else have this issue? I really hope it isn't busted. I don't want to have to send it back already :(

So, how much will PS4 Pro affect the graphics of these games? I enjoy them but some are noticibly worse graphically than normal.

Fairpoint devs said the game has 2x the amount of pixels of the OG PS4 version on Pro.

I think it will help a lot on resolution, which seems to be the biggest problem.

Nope. Mine isn't plugged into a hub.

I just tried Rush of Blood. There is absolutely no headtracking.

I thought you said the PS4 said no VR found? Hhmmm...I suggest switching everything off and checking all the connections - make sure you use all the supplied leads and reboot the console (not hybernation - proper reboot)

Did anyone in the US go to GameStop today?

Any word on what stock is like? I can't get down there until after work...

Not sure about the in-store but their website has the starter bundle and VR unit with free 2 day shipping. I went with the bundle but got a error on the site but still got a charge pending. Contacted CS and they said that order didn't go through and they have no records so the pending charge should go away.

So with that I tried again and the second order went through successfully.

USB directly into PS4 or hub?

Do I really need the move sticks ? I guess they're only required for certain games ?

Yes, and obviously will enhance others

The site says they have stock but it seems to be shipping instead of store pick up. I guess you'd have to call your local ones around to see if they have any available.

Can anyone explain the 12 year age limit? I have a 6 year old niece who would love this. Would it be okay for short bursts?

Probably just covering their backsides - one for kids hurting themselves, two for kids breaking the headset and three because kids are still developing and if they use something like this too much it might cause issues they're not aware of

If this is the future sign me up. Traditional gaming feels ancient after this. Man I can't wait till we get second, third iterations of this technology. It's fucking awesome.

Did not expect to get a PS VR since I didn't preorder, but I went shopping with the wife this morning and scoped out the electronics section while she shopped and they actually had one left in stock. I don't think I ever searched for an employee so fast in my life. Pretty surreal since I basically came to terms that I probably wouldn't be able to snag one until some time after the holidays.

So I pretty much haven't done any research on the launch line up since this was totally out of the blue. Will be looking forward to hearing impressions on the games thus far. Now to wait out the shopping so I can give this thing a go lol.

Hmm, seems a bit young, but you could try it for a few minutes.

I remember my parents rented a virtual boy when it came out. They let me try it briefly, maybe two minutes or less.

I suspect it's the same reason they don't want 12 years and younget using 3d on 3ds. Potentially damaging to eye development, and they can't wait the amount of time it would take to reasonably work out if it does have any effect or not.

That said I let younger than 12 children use an oculus I ended up demoing at an outreach event since the noninteractive demo was only a couple minutes long. Use your judgement.

Seems like it's available pretty much everywhere online.

I'm surprised since stores barely got any and they cut off pre orders so early.

I have taken the protective stickers/film off the lenses, but it still feels like I'm looking through a thin cloth. Especially Driveclub looks worse than the captured footage I've seen on Youtube and such.

After a few more hours with the unit I see tracking issues with the headset.

Tracking seems to be somewhat related to distance from camera. I started out sitting pretty close (maybe 1-1.5m) during VR Worlds Dive, and didn't notice it, but Batman VR requires you to sit/stand in a certain spot that's more like 2.5m away and that lead to significant back-forth movements. (Not as bad as the controller, though)

Also the tracking in the OS menus seem to be really choppy suddenly. Can't remember it being this bad when I started using the device.

That was for the demo disc. It says that as I am wearing the headset. I have also rebooted the console (properly) multiple times and checked all the cords (but I will try that again). On the plus side, I calibrated the headset again and the lights do work. So, at least I know that they can turn on. Whenever it shows me the "confirm your position" screen everything is completely yellow except for the light on the DS4. Like, there is nothing lighting up on my PSVR (but it IS on and I seeing that screen through the PSVR).

I assumed as much but it's good to hear it from a dev. Some of these games would definitely gain from it, Driveclub especially.

PSVR is amazing. Me, my wive and kids are having a blast. We have so much fun with the playroom VR platformer i didn''t have time to try something else yet.

is responsible for the well-being of this island.
After trying all of the demos in the demo disc, I can't honestly say that I wanna buy any of these titles. My favorite demo was easily DriveClub, thought it was quite impressive and didn't give me nausea or anything like that, but I'm not a big fan of racing games so there's that. Oh GNOG was fun too. The rest.. ehh, not so much.

I'm so weak, got bundle off amazon. Also bought a ton of games...

100ft Robot Golf
Battlezone
Rigs
Thumper
Reza
Batman
Job Sim
Headmaster
Superhypercube
Until dawn

No will power at all

I was exactly the same after getting my Vive. Must have spend £100+ in the first month.

It's worth it.

This so much. In my 20+ years of gaming I have never been as immersed in a game as I am when using PSVR. I don't know how I am going to sit in front of tvs and monitors for gaming now.

I have a feeling a good amount of games are likely not able to hit 1080p (headset's max resolution) on the regular ps4, so I think the usual improvements we'll see from the Pro are better clarity as a result of it probably being able to render those games at 1080p or rendering higher and downsampling down to 1080p.

I think some people mentioned that games running in the back while in the OS tend to make it slow. Not sure if closing the game will help but try that and see if that helps.

I've been back and forth so many times on this.

Preordered a launch bundle when it went up (don't need move or camera, but only the bundle was available).

2 weeks ago I decided to cancel. Money is a bit tight due to new car payments, a child, etc. and I'm concerned with the longevity of games available for PSVR.

Today I walked into Best Buy at lunchtime and they had 4 core sets and 2 bundles on the shelf. I picked up a core bundle.

Now tonight I need to have a conversation with my wife before I open it! Definitely saving the receipt.

I would imagine short bursts are fine? It's usually strain on the neck and confusing their vision. For what it's worth I let my 4 year old occasionally use the VIve, even though it's hard to tighten it down that small. No more than 5 minutes at a time though.

In Job Simulator the circle to stand in is so far back, we're having to stand on the sofa. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get the circle closer to the tv?

I wish I never preordered this thing.

I've been refreshing the fedex delivery status since 5AM, and every local store around me has them in stock.
I need this now

Exactly...I would wait before letting a 6 year old use VR,until they do more study on the effects and all, just in case.

Quick tip to those looking to get one this morning and didn't have a pre-order.

Two of my local best buy locations (Seattle Area) had 5 VR bundles and 12 standard headsets available as floor stock for those who lined up at 9pm last night. They sold out and I wasn't able to get one for myself.

This morning, I checked my local Fred Meyer and they had a TON of stock of both bundles and standalone units. I was able to pick up a bundle without issue. The sales guy was like, "yeah, everyone forgets that we carry this stuff while best buy, target, etc. sell out quickly." He hadn't had any phone calls or inquiries so...yeah.

If you're having trouble finding a floor unit, check those places you wouldn't necessarily think of first.

*SNIP* Helpful diagrams!

Thank you, this vastly reduced my controller jitter and drift. The headset tracking is still swimmy though. I'll test it some more tomorrow. The camera was positioned on top of my 55 inch TV previously. Now it's about knee level, looking up from about 5 feet away. I'll try out Batman tomorrow and see if it's still swimmy/unstable.

After the initial euphoria of beginners VR wears off, you'll be able to appreciate both. VR has its place in the gaming, but so does traditional gaming. They have different strengths and together allow for a larger range of game design than we've ever had.

It is nice to see more people experiencing VR, and realizing that it's more than a monitor strapped to your face. The tracking issues are a pity though. Hopefully Sony can get that sorted out quickly... The headset in particular shouldn't be prone to drift.
