That's a huge step up after the horrible 3ds resolution.
It's Nintendo. Why wouldn't they fuck this up somehow? I'm still expecting >$300 for this thing, which is fucking hilarious for a 720p device in goddamn 2017.
As long as it's HD, I don't see the problem. The iPhone has a similar resolution.
FINALLY, a person who actually knows the benefits of resistive screens! I won't miss them on Nintendo products, but they get way, way more flack than they deserve. I'm still struggling with capacitive screens on phones when I need to select something small or use the phone when it's raining or snowing.
I did use PDAs for god know how many years, though, so I'm a bit biased.
Touch will not be something of a requirement. At least that's the rumors are alluding to.
Besides, this opens up possibilities of bringing games that may need touchscreen controls (mostly the ones that are handheld-only before). We''ll still have to see how well that will translate to docked mode with IR though.
Sure hope that dock does something for the res. I'm not planning on playing it on the go much, I don't want Switch games to be limited to 720p on my TV...
Original 3DS: 132.15 ppiPixel Per Inch (ppi) comparisons
WiiU - 854x480 @ 6.2 inch = 158 ppi
Vita - 960x544 @ 5 inch = 220 ppi
Switch - 1280x720 @ 6.2 inch = 236 ppi
Let me know when you're playing games on the iPhone that are console quality graphics and renders higher than 720pThe iPhone has a 4.7" display.
The pixels will be quite obvious on this thing. Won't touch a resolution that low with a pole tbh. Hope it doesn't limit the resolution on TVs to 720p...

I'm really confused at the thought of an IR pointer substituting touch controls when docked. Touch is far far more accurate. I'll probably just play unlocked for touch heavy games.
I wonder if an infrared sensor in the base could be used for tracking purposes for something like VR or would it not be accurate enough?
i will miss them too. but i guess people just want the worse touchscreen for gaming, just because it's "newer".
Why are people complaining about a 236ppi screen? That's not bad at all for games.
there won't be any touch heavy games.
At least a confirmation of an IR sensor more or less confirms that Splatoon will be perfectly playable on the system.
Seems like it. Sounds good to me.but it might just be the screen being a lower-res rather than the dock providing any sort of extra power.
The iPhone has a 4.7" display.

6.2" ..... at 720p...... 2017 and forwards....ew!
what about elite beat agents though
WHAT ABOUT ELITE BEAT AGENTS
I hope you're wrong. I really want devs to keep playing with ideas like Kirby's Canvas Curse and Severed.there won't be any touch heavy games.
Hard to believe these were even designed by the same company.
Here's some pics. Amazing device.
Well it's a game of trade-offs, finding the best balance for a given function.I always find "this is 20xx!" posts funny, anything more than 720p isn't realistic unless you want a far too expensive device with little to no battery power.

Very disappointed in the 720p screen. I can easily tell a huge difference in quality between a 1080p video/picture and 720p on my tiny 5 inch phone. Pretty sad a new device coming out in 2017 can't hit 1080p. Classic Nintendo move.
