I found a vagina in Watch Dogs 2 and Sony suspended me (Update: Ban lifted)

That's weird, haha.

Neither sex organs bothers me at all. I love female anatomy in fact X-D.

Well, I guess I should explain. (Skip to the fourth paragraph for the juicy part)

I had a pretty rough life. Back in my early teens my mother was getting with guy after guy and they where all jerks. Wouldn't have been so bad if they where nice guys and mom focused on us but yeah... We would always move to where they where or they would move in. Meaning that I never made many friends because I was afraid I'd just lose them and hated going through that. So we where living at a new house in a new city and my mother had promised that we would stay there this time. I got a job and helped pay for my brother and I to go to a small private school nearby because I wanted to change my families stars so to speak. I worked it out with the head of the school so that I could take off the days that I needed to work. He was awesome.

So, about a year in I had let down my guard and made many friends, some of the best I've ever had, doing amazing in school, top of my class. Lo, and behold my mother suddenly says that we are moving in with some guy that lives in a different city a ways away... I was livid. I "talked" to her about it and she said that if I could find a place to stay that she would be okay with letting me leave and go on my own... I was 14.

So I did. But stupid horny teenage me decided to talk to the single mother of the "hottest" girl at school to explain my situation and see if she would let me move in... she did. And so I moved in and my mother left... For the first time in my life I was without my family, my little brother and baby sister. One of the suckiest times of my life. But man for the teenage me the prospect of maybe getting with this girl made things a lil bit better.

This chick had all the qualities that I find attractive, big booty check, busty check, red head check, skinny check. She would constantly call me to her room and I would arrive only to find her halfway dressed or something and she needed help choosing an outfit... Drove hormonal teenage me insane. Anyhow, a couple weeks in and she calls me again, this time her mom was gone and she was in the bathroom and I hear the shower running and dumb naïve teenage me is thinking, "yeah, this it, she's gonna ask me to join her or something"... So I go, I open the door and there she is, sitting on the toilet, legs spread wide open in the process of pulling out what I can only guess was a tampon... She tugged on it and it came out... but that's not all that came out... the tampon was soaked red, there was blood all over her legs and then, unstopped, blood came pouring out of her vagina as well... It truthfully looked like her vagina was just a hole that had been freshly cut between her legs... She looked at me and said, "See! See, this is what girls have to deal with!" While waving the tampon through the air at me. My mind shattered. It was my first time seeing a vagina in person... I can't even remember the rest.

So I hope that explains why vaginas make me feel uncomfortable. I don't know what to do. I am married now and I just can't get used to it. It sucks because unless I'm tipsy I can't do certain things for my wife if you know what I mean.

So few things here. One I think its real dumb that OP got suspended for posting content that is just part of the software he bought.

Two, while I don't find the nudity really moves the needle on my opinion of the game one way or the other I'm kind of just scratching my head as to why they felt they needed to model that?
Maybe just for kicks, but as a SF native it makes some sense to include some nudity as part of the city's flavor. Comes with the territory.

Common sense, how does it work? How is it Sony's fault he decided to share the image?

Come on, you can't see the hipocrasy of Sony approving of the content within the game to be on their platform then ban a player for sharing that content? Maybe Sony should make it so screens and videos taken from games rated M shouldn't show up on the home acreen feed if a console is set to an age restrictive mode rather than punishing their users for utilizing system sharing functions in software they have approved of.

UbiSoft deliberately going for a media controversy to tank its stock prices and cause Vivendi to not be interested in a takeover

I guess. What's your issue?
The game is rated Mature and has several warnings of what that Mature content is, including nudity.
Asking why Sony has allowed sexual content in games is on the verge of asking for censorship... all because of a mere one week suspension. Quit deflecting and have some perspective:
You thought a picture of a vagina texture was funny enough to share publicly on PSN and were reported for it. As per your OP, posting sexual content is against the ToS.

Again, it's just one week. This has really been blown out of proportion.

I kinda think it's fine for Watch Dogs 2 to have vaginas, and for Sony to punish people for sharing pictures (on their service) that are generally going to be deemed offensive or not family-friendly. It's not like getting angry with Sony over this is going to end with them throwing their hands up in the air and going, "You're right, everyone can share those pictures with all of their friends via our service!" More likely they'll pressure Ubisoft into patching it out, or adding a mosaic or something.

So it kind of seems like the best compromise is: have games with whatever content you want, but you can only share & publish content of a certain level of general acceptability on Sony's servers. Which apparently is already the case!

It's been shown in this thread that it was noted by ESRB.

The real issue is OP being banned for a bullshit reason.

Fair enough, I guess we've come to a point where nudity of any kind is deemed more admissible these days at least by the judge and jury on their board.

Still, with the way Sony's reacted to this, obviously the main takeaway here is this for everyone else lol:

Violence? Mainstream. Extreme closeups of extreeme gore? Edgy, but still acceptable. Genitalia? Pushing it, a bit explicit. Close-ups of female genitalia? Line crossed!!

It's really the fact that this is still a sensitive usage of bodily exhibition that veers close to pornographic territory, which is a stigma that has the disadvantage of having its own format that with it has its own connotations, whereas violence is 'just' a characteristic with gradients now covered to death in the games industry. The portrayal of a female vagina, however? That's pro'lly going to bother a lot of traditionalist fellows is all I could say, and that's not applicable just to games or traditionalists -- show anyone a close-up pic of a vagina/penis from an R-rated art movie vs. a close-up pic of a bloody face from an R-rated movie and they'll react either in the same repulsive way or more repulsively to, you know, the pic of genitals being shoved in their faces, it's in typical people a normal response.

What's unique to games, however, is the ability to manipulate and interact with the scene on-screen -- particularly the ability to, like so, control the camera. In a movie the director and cameraman are in full control, but in a game that lets you swing your joystick around (and then when you're done the joystick on your controller) and get whichever angle you please it could cause problems and for dev and PR teams that would probably be a real hassle to regulate, particularly with the advent of today's social platforms. It's definitely a more 'kill-it-off-before-it-multiplies' kinda thing, thus the severe reaction. Which, honestly, could just have easily been taken care of with a strong verbal warning at most but they probably didn't want to take any chances.

What they should do, if going forward and without compromising things like this, is embrace a filtering system. I'm pretty sure Twitter allows for images to be marked 'sensitive' for instance.

I don't find a dead prostitute with exposed vagina sexual in anyway tbh.

Sony has built an entire infrastructure around sharing game screenshots and videos, and they have also allowed games with dead people's vaginas.

To ban someone for sharing a screenshot of a dead person's vagina seems like entrapment.

It's not Sony's fault. But I'm not sure it's really Sony's responsibility to police shared content from titles it allows into its market?

If I watch the movie Requiem for a Dream and go, "Hey guys, I didn't know there was a vagina in this movie, look at this...", it'd be in bad taste to do so and it might violate some MPAA content recirculation issues, sure, but is it my DVD player's fault or Netflix's fault? Where is there fault? It's not Twitter's fault, unless I use Twitter wrong, as there are methods on Twitter for marking adult content, which they allow under policy (to a point, I would assume? I'm not sure how far Twitter allows you to go before they consider it abuse of service, but I'm guessing there's a limit I've just never looked up.) It is the filmmakers' "fault" for putting the content in there, but they wanted it to be in there because that was important to be part of their film. I took a scene that in context had a purpose that the studio and filmmakers wanted to be presented in an appropriate way, but there's not a lot they can do to force me to respect that intention (aside from exercising copyright law, but DVD players don't have a big button that in all caps says, "SHARE" on the remote, a little bit for this reason among others.) Lionsgate has no rights to come down on me and say, "We don't like what you let people know you saw in our movie, you don't get to see any more of our movies for a week."

I mean, sure, common sense tells me not to post nudity on the internet unless I'm prepared for what happens when somebody has nudity on their social feeds. And common sense tells me that videogame companies are uptight, nervous little puckerbutts who will do anything to have their cages not rattled.

On the one hand, I can see how someone might be offended by the pic and reported it (Though a ban rather than a warning is a bit much)... but on the other hand, what the actual fuck is the thinking on Ubisoft's part adding this? I'd probably have done the same thing in OP's position if I'd been playing the game tbh.

Well then. I do appreciate the explanation, heh.

I suppose it was traumatic at that age. Bleeding doesn't bother me at all...lol. I see it as natural. Nothing phases me doing anything with a female, lol. I get it in that case though. Hope it eventually subsides for you.

Everyone may carry on now :)

Welp, we have an AO game rated M for some reason.

Why did the ESRB not slap this with an AO?! Full nudity, sex or no sex, is still an AO in ESRB's book but somehow it isn't.

The problem is that it wasn't shared on PSN, it was posted to Neogaf and Twitter.

The fact that pictures posted to Twitter also show up on a user's PSN page is Sony's fault, because that wasn't made clear the user at all.

This game seems to be full of obnoxious shit. Recently watched a walkthru of the first hour or so and man, the hacktivism, cliched characters, forced jokes/memes and vomit-inducing graphic design elements were hard to stomach. And now this...This game isn't subtle. I'm disgusted.

Thats only topless in the strip clubs, this is everything, i guess they are lax on it now

No, there is fully rendered penis in the game as well. There is a colony of creepy cult nudists in the hills that you can abduct people as trevor and deliver them to the cult. If you walk around the complex you'll notice almost everyone is entirely nude.

No, it's not. There are multiple other M-rated games with full nudity.

I wouldn't be trying to make a thing out of it, but also Sony could cool their jets about content that has been approved for their platform.

Sony isn't chasing down caps of the last nipple seen in a Sony Pictures flick.

Wow.

Damn Ubisoft! I bet Anita Sarkeesian preparing for the next video like

Oh god LMFAO!

This game isn't what I was expected it to be.

Yeah, the ESRB warns of "brief instances of male and female full-frontal nudity" ... I'm not seeing any briefs on this gentleman.

By the way, anybody know anything weird that happened to Ballad of Gay Tony? The ESRB has ratings for GTA IV and Lost & Damned, also Episodes from Liberty City, but BaGT weirdly doesn't have its own listing. Also, the GTA4 bundle pack specifically says, "most pertinent instances of sexual content occur in the episode The Ballad of Gay Tony", even though it's LaD that has the full monte (I haven't played that DLC, but I'm going to assume it follows the GTA playbook and has plenty of other naughty bits in it that were similarly glossed over in a way that the game with the word "Gay" in it was not,) and of that, they simply say, "During a cutscene in The Lost and Damned, the central character encounters a man just after he has received a full-body massage; as their conversation ends, there is a brief depiction of full-frontal nudity." Again with that "brief" word; that was not a blink-and-you-miss-it moment for Little Mr. Stubbs.

I mean, they're Playboys in Mafia 3. Even some with bush I believe.

Shhh... don't tell Sony.

So you are saying the ESRB rated it incorrectly? This isn't their first rodeo.

Since when? Certainly not since GTA IV which had full frontal nudity as well. Or are you just making stuff up and posting it as fact?
