Assassin's Creed Syndicate Just Got Pro Support

wait what? bloodborne is worse on pro?

Certainly seems that way to me. I've been playing it non-stop for the past week and there are more frame problems than what I remember from when it launched in March of 2015.

I'd love to see a formal analysis of it done.

No, Bloodborne is a very stable 30fps, it's frametime however is out of sync so it feels like it's dropping frames....

So is it just the frame-pacing? It's horrendous.

TODAY ON BREITBART: SATANIC VIDEOGAME INSPIRED ON JOHN PODESTA'S PIZZAGATE PERFORMS WORST ON ELITE-CLASS JAPANESE CONSOLE

Trying too hard. End result: not funny.

Also, a big LOL at the comments in response to my post. Good grief, guys.

No 1080P is sometimes called 2K because it's pretty close to 2K resolution

They referred to 1080p, 2K and 4K in the same passage, it's safe to assume that by 2K they mean something higher than 1080p, otherwise it'd be redundant.

Weird wording on their part but it must be intended for 1440p or something.

I hope they fix it, surprised they actually patched it.

Would be nice if Black Flag, Unity, FC4 and FC Primal got support :)

Semantics matter. We don't call all four-legged domesticated carnivores "dogs", because it matters that some of them are cats. Having similarities doesn't make things identical. And in the case of checkerboard rendering, the similarities to upscaling are swamped by the differences.

No it isn't. Traditional rendering derives pixel values from knowledge of 3D objects' position, motion, and orientation, augmented by other data, including the values of adjacent pixels.

Checkerboard rendering derives pixel values from knowledge of 3D objects' position, motion, and orientation, augmented by other data, primarily the values of adjacent pixels.

Scaling derives pixel values from the values of adjacent pixels, sometimes augmented by other pixel values.

I think this makes it very clear that checkerboard is a type of rendering, not a type of scaling.

All rendering generates data where it isn't, but it'd be ridiculous to call it all "scaling".

Because it isn't scaling, it uses a very different method far more akin to traditional rendering.

The is some kind of scaling that can be argued. That is, information. There's just a fixed number of original pixels being rendered. The rest have no data until after the process. The size of the render d frame wasn't increased but the number of pixels with information has.

Yes, it's the framepacing......

Well it is redundant because 2k is 1080p.......2k is not 1440p. If they do mean something else, well we will have to wait for a functional patch or better worded patch notes to know.

I hope they fix it, surprised they actually patched it.

I have a feeling that these games might also follow up. Unity and Primal should be no brainers though as to what's next.....

For all the developers slow on their patches and not seeing a need to spend some time to do them. Ubisoft has done the smart thing, they've patched some of their older titles in time for black Friday sales, digital sales and the holiday season mood...I'm pretty sure many people are eyeing Ubi's titles in those PSN sales because of this patch and anticipation of other patches they may deploy. I own Unity and Syndicate on PC, but I'm looking at the current sales of Unity and Syndicate on the PSN and may very likely pick them up because of the Pro patches. I would never consider them other wise.

I don't mean it's redundant as a term, I mean it would be redundant in the sentence.

If a list has three distinct names, we assume they're three distinct things. The patch notes mention 1080p, 2K and 4K. If they meant 1080p and 2K as the same thing, they wouldn't use both terms.

(Unless the notes are complete nonsense, of course)

Well I thought of that too, and that may be a very valid assumption, but I won't assume it until the proper patch goes live.....I'd go by what I know 2k to be.......but still, hopefully their render resolution is greater than 2k......

Yeah, also Bloodborne is waaay harder on Pro, I swear! I clearly remember just waltzing through the levels, now I'm dying over and over, wtf? And the guy seems to have less fur than I recall, also he used to have a robot on his back, didn't he?

Just loaded it up. Damn it looks bad. So much artifacts everywhere. It looks like the game was stretched out rather than actually rendering at 1080p.

Really hope they fixed it cause I was someone who was looking forward to a Syndicate patch...

I couldn't tell a difference on either the hud or the game on my 1080p screen. On a side note, I just finished the last murder mystery, and that was SOOO AWESOME!!! :O What a twist! :lol These side quests are by FAR the best part of both Unity and Syndicate, omg. I didn't know murder mysteries could be so enthralling xD

Are there more games like that, with investigations? I've played most of the Phoenix Wright games, the Batman games, and that Rockstar game which name eludes me at the moment.

The last 2 Sherlock Holmes games were great.

Agreed Syndicate has some seriously insane stuff.

Cool, I'll have to check that out :)

Indeed, I stayed away from Unity when it came out due to the performance, and general fatigue of the franchise but I got back into it last month because of a good digital sale on both these titles. But the same fatigue managed to kick in again before I had even finished Unity xD But I knew Syndicate was supposed to be a massive improvement and so it was! Especially with the season pass and loads of free content. This could be my first AC platinum since Revelations or so.

As has already been mentioned, there are the Sherlock Holmes games. Heavy Rain also has a fair bit of investigating. Maybe Life is Strange could fit the bill, too? I haven't played LA Noire but I'm assuming it's also got a lot of investigative work in it.

Is it really 1620p? Can't say it looks different (using KS8000 / 4K) but maybe I'm wrong. Framerate is about the same if I remember correctly. Carriage bug isn't there but haven't stress tested it yet.

Have they submitted a bogus patch or something?

Wouldn't the PS4PRO just downsample the 1620p image to 1080p? Surely they don't drop it down to 1080p for 1080p TV's
Either way this is not what's happening at all its 900p regardless

I think it's just poorly worded to mean it's simply supersampled to 1080p, with no other improvements.

Yeah it's not working, the game is still 900p on Pro

Being downsampled from 1620p to 1080p is a massive improvement for Assassins Creed regular 900p image, sadly it ain't working

Yeah, as it stands the patch isn't working correctly - here's hoping it gets resolved soon.

It sounds like a bug people just wait a bit. I'm excited for a patch. The low resolution and framerate was partly why I stopped playing so this is great news.

Yeah, this is my doubt.
According to the notes, there's no supersampling.
Probably poorly worded... I hope...

It's sort of irrelevant until they fix it but I should hope so.

I can't think of benefits in not doing it that way when the same console is rendering it at 2880(assumed)x1620 for 4K screens. I wouldn't actually rule it out with Ubisoft but it's an inherently negative thing to do without any benefits, unless the performance on 4K screens is notably worse than on 1080p screens. If that was the case it still wouldn't make any sense to not have the option to select either 1080/performance or 1620/better looking rendering for users with either type of screen as it would already rendering at both resolutions, depending on the screen you had it connected to.

Again, I wouldn't like to say that they wouldn't use super sampling due to it not making any sense not to...but you never know.

PS4 upgraded from 900p to 1080p? Parity confirmed?
So what I've always been saying then, that these games should have been 1080p on the PS4 in the first place, but parite egalite and fraternite ensued.........Hopefully the same is done for Unity on the base PS4. I think I will finally buy these games on console.

Those patch notes are laughable...

- For regular PS4 users, the patch will upgrade the rendering resolution from 900P to 1080p (Updated)

-For users without a 4K TV, the game will be rendered in 1080p.

LOL, two statements but there's not difference.
