Assassin's Creed Syndicate Just Got Pro Support

They went to all the trouble of making this game, all the money they spent on making it, all the hours of people's lives it consumed and they smear it with shit and fart it out.

The devs I'm sure would love to go back and fix everything and do their work justice but I'm sure Ubisoft have got them working on the next half baked entry.

No amount of processing power is ever going to rectify an unfinished or broken game and that's what frustrates me about the arms race of more powerful consoles and more cost to the consumer, we rarely get to see the real benefits of that extra power and extra cost.

If Ubisoft would actually show some respect for the console gamers and improve these games I would consider picking up their games again.

As it is, I don't even touch their PC versions anymore, really a shame since they were by far my favorite publisher/developer last gen.

Their PC versions are pretty much flawless. I just recently picked up Rogue, Liberation and Syndicate and they've all looked and ran perfectly with zero crashes or issues with all 3 games from start to end. For as much crap as Ubisoft gets, I have a lot of faith for their PC versions.

Hmmm, I got a refund for the Division on steam in part because it was so buggy for me.

The blurry pixels look like when you take in image in Photoshop and do a basic resize to make it larger. It looks like an absence of more detail. Something is clearly fucked up here.
Thats the thing, I did exactly that with a native 1080p image, resized it to 1440x1620 then upscaled it to 4k and downsampled it back down to 1080p and it leagues better then what we getting, the rendering is just way below 1080p and upscaled badly like they actually put effort into making it look bad.
I'm shocked NX gamer said only 4k TV owners notices it and on 1080p sets its an improvement?!

Edit, just watched NX gamers video again, even on YouTube on a 1080p screen I can see patch 1.1 vs 1.5 looks better and sharper.
NX gamer I know ya on here, please explain because it doesn't make sense to what we can clearly see on our screens plus your own side by side video on YouTube while you're in the background saying it looks better on to 1080p sets.

Native resolution for 2880x1620 checkerboard
It's the same number of pixels natively rendered, yes. But that would then mean no checkerboard rendering is happening at all.

It's probably supposed to be 2880x1620 but something in their checkerboard rendering pipeline fails.
In that case, the "something" would have to be checkerboard in its entirety. The whole point of checkerboard rendering is that you, you know, render the other half of the pixels (with a different process). The results of pixel counting Syndicate indicate that the other half aren't even being generated. So either the game is meant to be 1620c but checkerboard is doing nothing at all, or else it's using checkerboard rendering with a 1440x1620 target (which would be an awful choice).

Yeah, Ubi's PC releases post-Watch Dogs have all been quite good, with the exception of Far Cry 4 -- but it's two years old now.

"hello?" "this is vagina"
Well, I do appreciate that they tried but the final result is pretty disappointing.

I liked Syndicate a lot, and now that I'm a Pro owner, I'm not sure I'm too eager to reinstall the game and give it another go unless the pixel artifacts get sorted... Looks real bad, IMO.
What's bizarre to me is how much worse it looks at 1080p, which neither NXGamer or Digital Foundry went into.

The game is putting out more pixels than 1080p in Pro mode, but looks blocky as hell, so I'd much rather they just went with native resolution for 1080p TVs.

Are Ubisoft fixing this or what? Can't be intentional, but still overall disappointing especially because they did a pretty good job with Watchdogs 2.

Would've thought 2560x1440 and just standard upscale would be easily doable and offer much better results.

1440x1620 with scaling across would be bad but is this checkerboarded to this res? Results seem worse than 1440x1620 native then upscaled. Might try to run a custom res on PC to see what it looks like.

Reached out to Ubisoft support with the following response:

- They have no announcement for any form of update to the game
- The information I shared with them regarding low image quality on the PS4 pro will be passed on to the dev team

It's safe to assume that since this patch went up just before the long weekend that no one was there to properly assess the complaints until today.

If indeed it was a glitch it's safe to assume we should hear something within a week with a small fix to follow.

If it's not a glitch and that is how the patch was intended to look, then the next step on Ubisoft's end will be entirely dependent on the feedback of the community. The more noise we make, the more complaints we file, the better the chances we get of a fix.

Syndicate is one of the best Assassins Creed games out there. I strongly implore all of you to give it a try

This is so sad because it's an older game that really didn't have much expectation for a Pro patch but would really benefit from one, yet they screwed it up royally.

I was hoping that it would bring about more old pro patches. I also wanted to go back and finish this game with higher framerate and resolution.

I hope your right, I would actually restart the game if they fix it.
They must know, hell even Sony isn't listing it in their PS4Pro supported titles on the store as to say fix your shit Ubisoft.

No communication. Just keep tweeting, emailing, doing whatever it is you need to do to keep the community buzzing until they are forced to respond.

I'm starting to think that this patch isn't glitched. Probaly that ugly resolution was a deliberate choice.

If it isn't glitched, the base ps4 would run the game at 1080p, because apparently that functionality (900p > 1080p) has been patched in.

Thank you for creating support cases about this issue. While I don't have any specifics to provide, please know that we are aware of the issue and currently looking into a solution. Thank you for your continued patience and apologies again for any frustration this has caused!

I know that was on the 29th of November, but at least they're aware of the situation.

This is way worse than the TLOU fiasco. At least Ubisoft responded...

For sure, the game is unplayable at the moment - visual issues aside, base PS4 & Pro users alike are hitting up the forums complaining of crashes and bugs at every turn after the latest patch. I submitted a case so will let you guys know if I hear anything up to date about it.

The game looks better unpatched than patched, that says a lot about this tbh. The framerate gains are not too significant either, so yeah, this patch had to go back to the drawing board for several reasons. It's is indeed the worse pro patch so far......

Hopefully they're ding some performance optimization and offering us a nice checkerboarding solution that will serve as a template for their other titles; like Unity, the Division, Siege, FC4, Primal etc...

I bought this and Unity a few weeks ago on PS4/PS4.Pro because I thought it was properly patched at a nice resolution. Watchdogs 2 runs at 1800p checkerboarded and looks much better than these and these games can't be patched to at least 2160p checkerboarded with TAA? I won't play these on consoles unless they properly patch them.

I hope they have news on these titles soon.........

This is the response I got:

Thank you for contacting Ubisoft Customer Support, my name is Helena and I'll be assisting you today.

Please accept my apologies for the time it took me to get back to you on this ticket. We aim to reply within 48 hours, although sadly this is not always possible. We are doing our best to improve our service to ensure our responses are as quick as possible.

Regarding your Assassin's Creed: Syndicate and the latest Update from your Console, I'm truly sorry my fellow Player, to hear that since the latest updates your game is not running as it should :( My best advice at this point would be to bear with us and Sony for the next updates, that make the bridge between 4K, the Pro Version and the game itself, as for now we don't have any troubleshooting steps to give you to try to sort this out.

Thank you so much for all your patience and kindness,if you have any questions or doubts, please let me know. I will be here for you!

Kind Regards,

Helena

I almost finished this on my OG ps4, and then upgraded to. Ps4 pro. I'm on a 1080 TV. Will I only get the messed-up resolution now? Thanks.

To what question exactly? Could you please copy that here as well?

My question was:

Ever since the latest patch to support the PS4 Pro was introduced, the game has been looking ridiculously blurry on my 4K screen, according to tech tests, it's running at 1440px1620p which seems to be the root of the problem.Could you please let me know whether you are aware of the issue and are working on a fix ?

Every time this thread comes up I click on it hoping that there's an announcement to patch in the constant crashing to desktop the last path brought with it. Oh well...

I have a Pro with a 1080p TV. I last played this (the intro mission) in 2015 on a vanilla PS4. I recall remarking that it looked rather scuzzy, particularly noting the jagginess (as well as wooden quality to the NPCs and their faces).

I just started the game in 2017. It updated. Am I crazy? It looks better. (Not sure about performance.) The jaggies seem to be gone. It looks a bit like WD2 on Pro in terms of image quality improvement.

Am I imagining it? If not, is it just because it's at 1080p instead of 900p, or is it downsampling from some 1080p+ rez?

(If I'm not just imagining it, wouldn't be the first time 1080p TV owners get the best Pro experience. Last Guardian on Pro at 1080p looks delightful and runs at solid 30fps. Vanilla PS4 owners get a slide show. 4K TV owners get a prettier slide show, unless they configure 1080p output on console settings, which is an annoying hack, and then they get the 1080p TV experience.)

I just got a 1.51 patch for Syndicate. This is new right? Patch notes claim it improves 4k support on PS4 Pro.

I'm about to test on my 1080p connected Pro.

Ugh I waited weeks and then I binged the dlc which I was holding off on playing this week. Damn. I've still got side content, didn't touch the ww1 stuff.

Quick first impressions on 1080p Pro. Pretty sure it looks a lot better. I immediately noticed the problems with the previous patch and ten minutes into this new one - jumping around a few locations - I'm not noticing the weird blocky aliasing of patch 1.5 at all.

It looks much smoother and in the style of Watchdogs 2 on Pro 1080p. It might just be back to the original settings, but even that looked better to me than 1.5.

So I'll leave it in the hands of the professionals to work out actually what they did, but in my mind - much better.

Nice, glad to see this patch may have fixed the issues. I think I need to pick this up. Best Buy has it on sale for $7.99 with GCU this week.
