Guerrilla Games announces Decima Engine (Death Stranding, Horizon, Killzone)

I liked how Kojima said how he improved the engine and they showed Hermens face as he said it. You could see him thinking "what, it was not good enough!?"

Isn't it just the opposite? You could argue that for almost every exclusive that it's stupid NOT to bring it to as many platforms as possible. It's called leaving money on the table.
I believe that Death Stranding is still coming to PC, but your post is nonsense. Sony's main goal with exclusives, is to make the PlayStation platform (console hardware + Network) more attractive. It's about the message 'games only on PS'. A bit more money of PC sales is..... not what they're looking for.

Dude has a point. As someone who plays games now almost entirely on my PC, Bloodborne was pretty much THE reason I got a ps4. Exclusives absolutely can sell your console and I'm sure they want some stuff to really show off the PS4 Pro.

There's absolutely no damn way I'm buying a pro any time soon though. Plus by the time this thing is finished, which I'd hope is 3 years from now MINIMUM, I imagine we'd be on a new console generation. I'd definitely buy a PS5 for a crazy Kojima game.

Please let me play this thing in 60 fps on a PC if I can't on Playstation ;~;

I'm not sure if Kojima actually said "improved" in the sense of actually improving GG's engine as a whole. I think he said something like "modified to better suit the game we're making" but the translator went with the improvement thing. But yeah I noticed Herman's face during that xD

So i guess Kojimas games will never show up on Xbox? Unless he's crazy and uses a different engine for every game.

In the foreseeable future he will surely stay with Playstation. But never say never.

Man.. watching that panel makes me really sad that Yu Suzuki isn't getting the same WWS / Cerny treatment that Kojima is.
Especially with him and Cerny seemingly being friends and all.... :(

Not saying Kojima doesn't deserve it but I'm sure he would've made something amazing either way, while Suzuki really hasn't gotten the respect he (imo) deserves.

Did Yu Suzuki work with Sony before? Kojima and Sony had long relationship since PS1 era so it's understandable Sony offer Kojima better.

WHAT a match! Can't think of a better combo. The panel itself was terrific...The amount of collaboration between both studio's is pretty substantial...Love Kojima saying the visuals will look even better than the trailer!

Goodbye 60fps, helloooooooo input lag. After the great fluidity of MGS V and its controls/gameplay, this is just utterly disappointing. I like Guerrilla, but this doesn't match at all.

Uh what are you even talking about?
Input lag and framerate are not inherent to an engine.

there's no input lag in KZ Shadow Fall and game runs at 60 fps in multiplayer

I'm not claiming they are, it's just that I'm associating the Fox Engine with snappy controls and Guerilla's work with the exact opposite. But I'm an optimist, so I'm hoping for the best.

It doesn't, the framerate is just unlocked. Unless they've changed that, I haven't touched the game since the launch of PS4.

yeah, like in most "60 fps" games.

and engine has nothing to do with this. If they wanted, they could run this at locked 60 fps.

your first post here was strictly pessimistic, but you're "optimist". Ok :)

What does that even mean? A lot of games don't run at 60fps so we're just going to call them 60fps anyway? Ok. Either way, MGS V wasn't one of those games.

And Guerrilla usually hasn't any interest in doing so, which is why I'm disappointed. I'm not sure what you're trying to tell me. "They could do it if they wanted" doesn't really change anything.
The engine does play a role here, it's tailored to a fixed piece of hardware. Guerrilla usually has a different focus. Thats fair, it's just disappointing to me.

I like Kojima, so I want this to be good.

It has probably already been mentioned, but an engine being developed by Sony doesn't exclude that game also being made available for other platforms. Sony's own PhyreEngine has been used in games for PC a fair few times before and not by Sony themselves.

I'd have thought if it was definitely a PS4 exclusive, Sony would be clarifying that. They used the words 'console exclusive' but haven't upgraded to 'exclusive' - which there would be no reason not to (and plenty of reason to do) if it was definitely only ever going to be a PS4 game.

No they will show up after Sony Konami's his ass again, locks him up for 6 months in an office so they can finally Finish Death Stranding V: The Fantastic Pain. Without him spending too much time and money stroking his ego.

But it will be a pachinko game on Xbox.

Confused at the Killzone reference in the OP title - is there an new Killzone in development using this engine?

I wonder if the game will be 60fps as MGS5 was sublime. Isn't this engine also used in another horror title can't remember the name...

Edit: Title in above post

PhyreEngine was made to ease multi-platform development for third parties during the early PS3 era when an number of them were skipping the platform due to its notorious complexity. It officially supported both PC and 360, and had a very permissive license letting developers do whatever they wanted with it. I believe Sidhe even ported it to the Wii and iOS. It's not in any way comparable to Guerilla sharing their in-house proprietary tech.

I dunno, I would find it extremely odd that they're working closely with a Sony first party, Mark Cerny the architect of the PS4 is a technical consultant, and SIE studios being used for motion capture would ever make this game remotely viable to be sold on the Xbox platform. PC fine but it's console exclusive surely?
