Wipeout Omega Collection for PS4

It's only a game with modes from HD/Fury/2018, not remastered versions of the old three.
Have they actually confirmed this? I hope they do it this way but naming it specifically as a collection, to me, suggests that it may be an anthology style collection of the three games.

Although it doesn't confirm it either way, the closest comment that I've found that possibly covers the subject is this one...
PS Blog said:
The WipEout Omega Collection brings together all of the anti-gravity racing track and ship content from WipEout HD, Fury and 2048 games. All three are re-mastered and looking stunning in 4K and HDR, running at 60FPS.
As I said though, it doesn't actually confirm it one way or the other.

Although it hasn't been mentioned anywhere I'd like them to introduce some new content and/or modes to this collection too. It seems incredibly unlikely but the top of my wish list would be a creation mode where you could build and share your own tracks.

EDIT:
So if the collection is a success and convinces Sony to make a new WipEout, who develops it?
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, Housemarque would be the team at the top of my list for a new Wipeout. It would be a completely new genre for them but they're absolute masters of creating well balanced gameplay.

I love WipEout to death, but I can't get excited for something 2/3 of which is a port of a port of some PSP games with extra modes that I already played 8 years ago. Pure fan service, probably never getting a new WipEout.

10/10 purchase for those who havent played yet.

There are no cockpits in HD/Fury, handling wasn't based around having a cockpit, VR would need to have cockpits at the least and at best have a game built around VR as one of the features.

When these games were made VR was not considered and you can't just throw a VR mode in and say done. For WipEout to work in VR it would have to be built from the ground up to support it, anything else would be half assed.

Has it been confirmed that it's dynamic 4k? I think they can do a bit better than that, but surely it's not needed. 4k with 8xMSAA and TAA would be good enough to have prisitine IQ....like tearaway.....1080p owners should be in heaven.

the trailer begins with "now in dynamic 4K"

It said so in the trailer. I assume it's the same tech as was originally in the game - on PS3, it was dynamic 1080p that changed to keep framerate up. I assume it's just that but with 4k instead.

"hello?" "this is vagina"
Fuck, I can't wait.

Watching that gameplay made me realise how tuned the tracks are into my muscle memory, I could feel my fingers twitching on the air brakes.

Maybe this'll finally be the game where I don't suck at Chengou Projects.

Eh that looks pretty mediocre to me. The Wipeout HD interface is much closer to Designer Republic style...

Well, I also liked the general grid style the menu had for track selection, and how the grid itself also reacted to the menu music.

It was a mix of things, I suppose. dracula_x linked the original designer's portfolio which showcases what I mean at this link.

This shouldn't be a deal breaker. Bumper cams exist, chase cams exist (which is what Track Mania does, which is better than nothing).

I get that there is effort to be made getting the tracks, etc. to run in VR, but people chose PS VR over Vive, Oculus because the expectation is/was that Sony would be making that effort.

Based on the developers Sony is using and the likely sales expectations, I'm guessing it's less a technical impossibility and more an unwillingness to commit the resources necessary to re-tune the game. Also, I actually kind of agree that Wipeout is probably not the best VR game because it will probably make people incredibly sick. Not just from the sense of speed, but because the inertia is so much more in your face in the Wipeout flight model than in a normal car racer.

I might be in the minority here but I'm 100% okay with this not being a VR game.

It is something I really want, but I just think it needs to be a new game with it built for VR rather than tacked on. Between the motion of the AG ship, how boosts work, barrel rolls, no cockpits and more they can all cause issues. As a port I can understand VR not being added. If it was a new game then I would be annoyed.

Oh man, just saw this news. Instant buy.

Any word on VR integration? I'm probably wishing for too much.

They never got it right. They tried once, but didn't get it right. And that's
quite unfortunate given for how long the HD server were actually running.

hey just be happy if there's no State Farm insurance ad on the load screen

Red Bull is acceptable of course

Man this project was made for bluepoint to work on. Sad to see them not working on this, also sad about no VR support. Will still buy 2048 is amazing.

Wip3out had a cockpit view, and the handling was identical to internal view, and the the handling in 2097.

Handling models don't change by adding a cockpit/bonnet view. This has never been the case for any racing game, ever.

Wish they would give the explosion effects a bit of love though and touch the lighting a bit. IQ looks bonkers. Looks like 4k with 4-8xMSAA.

Ahh, good stuff, I only watched the Arrekz Gaming Vid. Didn't remember seeing that bit at the conference.

I hope the team are remastering older tracks for the game for DLC. I'd be down playing some old wipeout tracks remastered from ps1 and 2 era.

The best scenario would be for Sony to release a Wipeout game that contains every track and all the music from every previous WipeOut game in one package. The Ultimate WipeOut Experience. For posterity.

I'd be happy if they just got Underworld to do the entire soundtrack. Tin There (Edit) and Kittens are the ultimate Wipeout music tracks.

I want this more than anything but the code is gone. They'd have to be completely recreated from scratch.

We should Kickstarter it, it's the only way it would happen.

They'd have to do that anyways, and its not like any tracks from the first 2 games were super complicated!

never played or even heard of these games, but they look incredible and fun. Will eventually be buying this collection. Glad to see this remaster collection.

Looking good. I played the shit out of HD/Fury on PS3, but might get this for the sake of being able to play 2048 with my NeGcon.

That and because I don't want the series to die. Sony pls.

Wait a minute, can you use the NeGcon on PS4? Is there an adapter somewhere? I still have my NeGcon!

Would love to go about setting up a gaf racing league for this as well; wonder if the PS4 communities feature could facilitate this?
