Nintendo Switch running Breath of The Wild on Jimmy Fallon

I love the genuine enthusiasm of Fallon, that was also a great spot for Nintendo...and that Myamoto thumbs up/down turn gif,lol seen it about 20 times already this morning for headlines about the Switch.

Having non-gamers cheer for franchises and Nintendo, especially considering how many years it has been since Mario and Zelda first launched, has to feel great to Miyamoto. I think all artists want is to know their art has lasted and continues to affect people. I'm happy for him.

I thought to myself, 'not even people in NeoGAF could trash this cool presentation'. I was wrong, of course.

Well, I mean, it wasn't really a cool presentation.

It's got Jimmy Fallon in it for a start and we didn't really see anything new (gameplay wise).

It wasn't really for us though, it was for the sort of plebs who watch The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and don't necessarily follow gaming news.

Hmm, the screen didn't look too hot. Even considering it's off-screen footage, the backlight looks quite cheap, as in "chinese tablet" cheap. Hope it's just a prototype screen.

But who am I kidding, I will buy it regardless.

While the screen probably isn't going to be top notch, it's hard to make determination about it being viewed under television studio lights.

I like that better than 90% of the jaded cynical a-holes on neogaf. Excitement is positive and healthy.

Yeah I agree with that last sentiment. It's good to get excited about these things. I'm really glad it was given that kind of platform to show it off as well. Fallon was a good choice.

I am late to the GIF party.

Sooo like your average gaf member then?

For the record, it's not his excitement that bothers me. It's the fact that it's fake as hell and way overplayed.

You mean to tell me he had no clue they had brought the Switch? Or that Miyamofo was sitting in his audience? Of course he knew. Which made his forced "OOOOOOOOOOOOH GODDDDDD THE FEELS!" just dumb. Play the fucking game. Say it's fantastic or whatever. But quit acting like they'd promised you free handjobs for life.

That Samurai Mario shirt... @_@

I mentioned earlier but the thread is moving too fast, it's a play on words with the title Super Mario Run...
The kanji is 'ran', which happens to be the title (and same kanji) of a classic samurai epic by Akira Kurosawa (based on King Lear).

"Ran" (乱) means rebellion, revolt or war. In Japanese, the English word Run would be pronounced the same as the kanji/movie Ran...

So Mario is wearing a samurai outfit as a subtle and funny nod to a Kurosawa classic which kinda sorta shares the same name.

His overacting detracted from the demo - any other person would have wanted to show off the main gimmick of the console, instead he wasted time shield-surfing.

oh god, i just checked and there's no major Mario game at the Switch's launch.. that can't be good. Zelda is a great series and all but i don't think it has the same mainstream appeal as Mario.

I'm not sure what you "checked", because all sources are pointing towards a big Mario game at launch, with Splatoon, a Mario Rabbids RPG, Skyrim, and some other Wii U ports at the very least.

Also Zelda is unlikely to launch until the summer. So unless you have a source more reliable than Eurogamer/Laura Kate Dale/Emily Rodgers, you're wrong.

Nah, I've always found his positivity with video games endearing. I remember when he got to play Goldeneye 64 against Pierce Brosnan a few months back. He was loving it xD

Wow, that transition from docked to portable was pretty quick and easy. Sick. The device itself is so sleek! I can definitely imagine playing this on a commute.

Tbh I think it's probably a quick port to the Switch with a locked 30 FPS rather than substantial graphical improvements, but whatever, I'm fine with that and it was to be expected.

Thought I read BotW wild being developed with both systems in mind not necessarily a port.

Switch is going to be huge. Nintendo is firing on all cylinders right now between marketing and the system itself. If they don't botch the January reveal this thing is going to be sold out everywhere.

Nintendo console selling out doesn't mean anything.

If they could reach 40m lifetime I think that'd be pretty great

By DS/3DS standards, that would be bad.

Knowing their studios will focus on this single machine, they probably have bigger ambitions.

Thanks for proving my point.
