Is it more or less powerful than people were expecting?

Less, because even in docked mode it's worse than the Shield TV. I really hope this will have a 200 bucks price tag.

Also the significantly lower portable clock speed of the GPU is probably necessary to have some decent battery life.

Wtf is wrong with y'all. 199 is where this needs to be! This is great news. I think it needs to even be lower, honestly. A portable Wii U isn't so bad and this is probably more modern than that.

Will be enough to play Pokémon? If so, I'm in.

(Anyway I think clock Speed changed in 3ds during time, so probably they can overclock during time if needed).

Some people need to eat some crow!

Some people said that the gpu will operate 500 Gflops in portable mode and with 5 hour battery life.

So we have clock speeds in a vacuum, can't actually know the specs without knowing the rest. Of course, the idiots will jump on this with their rabid hatred of all things Nintendo.

In other words, this is useless information without knowing the full hardware. The CPU may use A72 cores, the GPU may have more CUDA cores that need to run at a lower speed due to having a bigger die.

If clock speed was all that mattered. AMD would have had the advantage over Intel for years by now.

Skyrim is a last-gen game with better textures (and Switch is a last-gen console with more RAM) and DQXI probably isn't based on the PS4 version.

DQXI is not based on the 3DS version, that's almost certainty. Skyrim is way too demanding to run in any way on a last-gen console.

It's even running Dark Souls 3 based on LKD. Seriously.

This better be super cheap. If these specs are true even $250 is stretching it. $199 might be a proper price for it.

If it is a Wii U portable and a pumped up Wii U while docked, I'm totally fine with it. As long as the price is good, obviously.

rumors are that it'll cost £200-£250 here in the UK. a ps4 cost £230 (i bought one just yesterday). i'm personally fine paying £250 for a Switch but for a lot of people they might prefer to just get a PS4/XB1 at that price.

I was nothing short of crucified last time I brought it up that I called it that this machine would be about on par with a Wii U. So many people still expecting a portable PS4. Boy are you guys going to be disappointed...

Clock speeds below what it is really capable? Isn't it the case for EVERY console since the beginning of time? And if those are true, it is in line with 720p undocked/1080p docked. Either way, I'm not surprised but there are still many pieces missing like how many CPU and GPU cores and what are those customizations?

See you in 5 years for the same circus.

You're not ambiguous about stuff unless coming forward paints you in a bad light

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

If the price is right it still could be something big....but right now it doesnt seem like what most of us were expecting.

Wonder if their goal is too have the chip run at higher clocks down the line like Sony did on the PSP.

Yeah, if this launches at $199, I have no issue with the specs. That would be a great price.

I think some time ago you mentioned $150 as a reasonable price for this thing. And as it turns out, that's correct!

It's a portable Wii U!

The Gamecube was last Nintendo competitive hardware. Since then, it's all about the gimmick.

Don't get me wrong: I think NINTENDO art-style doesn't need great numbers so I'm sure Switch will be more than enough to run NINTENDO updated magic

Not sure about third party stuff tho

According to Laura Kate Dale, we should expect this to hit the $250 price range (or $300 if you want Splatoon Switch & possibly more memory).

The specs and the final price of the console have little to do with each other. This is Nintendo, it can easily cost 249-299.

That came out of nowhere... why the hell does this have a fan run in portable mode? Unless they've like doubled the SM count...

Very weird.

Hardly any reason to call him "a fake", sources aren't always accurate, why take Digital Foundry as fact and NateDrake as fiction? Everything is a rumor until January 13th.

He also claimed at least 3x Wii U on paper. And you know that Nintendo won't mention specs, especially when they're this shit. This is another Gamecube -> Wii jump, except that the architecture is modernized.

By the way, this also debunks VentureBeat. This is by no stretch of the imagination a 1 TFLOPS machine.

They confirm that it's 256 cores.

Why did people expect power again?

I mean, power wasn't a Nintendo things since the Gamecube, which dates from 2001.

It won't happen guys. :lol

If I can get games that look a bit better than Wii U running at 1080p and 60fps whilst docked then I'll begrudgingly accept this. So is that gonna be possible? Either way I'm incredibly disappointed after hearing constantly from Gaf that this was gonna be close to XB1, seems like it's closer to Wii U after all. *sigh*

Considering I don't intend to use it handheld maybe the Switch isn't actually for me... I don't want to miss out on Nintendo games though :/

I've been calling it a "sidegrade" for a while now because that's where I thought the strategy made sense. The model is Vita + Vita tv, though integrated better and with nintendo support. And that's not that bad. It will probably allow Nintendo to stay relevant in western markets. Just what I think.

Man if these specs are correct, yeah I would be totally willing to shell out $199 for it. But if it cost $299 I would be so disappointed.

But god damn those portable specs are low...

What does it beung underclocked have to do with the price point? Really wondering.

If true, I fucking called it. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=225186609&postcount=445

I really doubt Switch could run its CPU at 1.6-2.1 GHz on handheld mode. I'm not expecting it to be higher than 800-900 MHz, tops 1 GHz

I wonder what all the people saying that at least the CPU would obviously be better than on XB1/PS4 (even the Pro) are thinking right now.

Anyone expecting much better from Nintendo was bound to be disappointed. Let's just accept that power-wise they'll always be 5-6 years behind or at least will never be market-leading.

Now, Zelda still better look better than on Wii U and the battery/screen better be fucking good or I'll have to reconsider my purchase.

This was expected. Right? I am happy with those specs if the os isn't shit like the wii and wii u were.

do we know if the fan will run while undocked? maybe very slowly. i don't expect it to be running full speed. that'll hopefully be left for when it is docked and running at the higher clock speeds.
