Yakuza Community Thread - FEEL THE HEAT!

Yeah probably the best idea. And even if Kiwami 2 doesn't get localized I'd still get in Japanese and that's no different than playing Yakuza 2 OG in Japanese other than it's more modern.

If you understand a little bit of Japanese it'd be worth it. Kiwami 2 would still be at the earliest 18 months away.

However if not, I think it's still better to try and get an English copy of Yakuza 2 if you can so you can fully understand the story.

Finished 6 last night. Really enjoyed it despite some issues. I think it's a good finale, but game play wise it's definitely a step backwards for the series.

Random question of the night. What is the track that plays in the background at the Kyabakura? My girlfriend and I spent so much time there that we are both humming it.

Is it just some random BG music or is there an actual artist I could buy it from?

It's sooooo hard to find an English copy that's not $100+ tho. I'll still try as I can't understand any Japanese.

Also I'm glad everyone liked my OT title.

It is legit and literally the best subtitle considering he situation
If we want to help the yakuza series become more well spread at least on gaf a subtitle that is straight to the point can help even a little.

Yeah, exactly. It's a straight and definitive answer to the question that every non-Yakuza-Gafer would have.

assuming i still have dibs on this one: yeah, that's about what i'll be going with

speaking of: what's the rule again, is it 2 weeks or so? i should get this thread thrown together this week if that's the case!

I really like this, considering it's asked on every page.

Yakuza 0 |OT| - 2017 is the Year of the Dragon

Is the best I can come up with.

i too like this one for kiwami!

Alright, review codes are out for Yakuza 0 - you could start seeing some early impressions (maybe livestreams?) on the 11th, and then the reviews should be coming out on the 19th.

Trying to get a livestream with our Yakuza team here too so we can join in on the fun.

And when you guys start playing through the game in English finally,
if you don't tear up at the scene at the end of Chapter 6, you're an inhuman monster :(

(under embargo so cannot comment)

I bought a copy on Ebay for about $79.99 about half a year ago. Not sure if that's changed, but that was a Buy It Now price, so you might be able to get it cheaper if you're willing to put up with the hell that is bidding.

I see a PAL version for $50. I wonder if it would be cheaper to buy that and a PAL PS2 lol. I'll just have to keep my eyes open. At some point before I die, I'll be able to play Yakuza 2 in some way.

I've seen used copies sell for around £10-15 on eBay. Guess there's some value on these shores.

It sucks it's so hard to get because man, Yakuza 1 to Yakuza 2 is one of the best improvements I've ever seen. 2 is easily the best mainline Yakuza game. It's just so GOD DAMN GOOD. Slacking on beating 5, but it seems even better than 2.

One day on GAF and you're already among my favourite members!

Welcome to SF-GAF too btw.

Finished chapter 8 of Yakuza 6, it was seriously giving me vibes from
Resident Evil 5: Lost in Nightmares (DLC). Revisiting Soap Land after its been abandoned for so long (thanks for that Majima) it just felt incredibly creepy. Well that and the blind, masked thing lurking about the place.
. Also, combat wise the Tiger Drop feel like its clicked more with me. Had a few really satisfying fights where I tiger dropped fools in a stylish way. Yeah, still loving the combat on this game even if it feels a little less complex than previous entries in places.

Yeah when I had played the demo, I wondered why so much of Kamurocho had changed up over time but the
Tougenkyou/Shangri-La
building was still there and still abandoned only to find out just like you did later on, I always wondered if homeless people were living in there or not.

Keep practicing your tiger drop, maybe you can get your timing down to take out multiple enemies.

Yeah, I always wondered about the building. Its been present in every game and apart from looking a bit shabby on the outside I always wondered what happened to it, glad they finally answered that question.

And yeah, I'm getting better at Tiger Drops, managed to take out (or at least stun) a whole group earlier, felt so good!

Hey, thanks man! I appreciate it haha. I have a pretty intense love of great niche Japanese games so you'll probably see me around often.

Obviously being a SF and Yakuza fan you're probably pretty awesome yourself!

You should probably PM the other dude and work it out with each other since he is the one who called it first in the OT thread.

I'm telling you this cause these stuff could result in getting banned or even juniored so it's better to be safe than sorry :)

yeah i literally just went back & saw that, PM'd him since it looked like he didn't really want it there even back then, guess we'll see!
and damn, they do that if you just make an OT here? harsh

I remember Irish claimed the OT for Yakuza 0 if it ever was to be localized and it was agreed on back then he should do it, of course that was back in the "Dark Period" when it was fun to laugh at Sega, the people who are fans of their games and the thought of localization in general.

But I didn't forget him wanting to make the OT, so he always had my support.

Not for making the OT itself but disputes over OTs and who claimed them first has resulted in people being banned or getting juniored in the past.

that's crazy. well, i PMd the guy - we'll see if he even still cares, he posts here & there about hitman so i dunno

was gonna use that as the OT title, prolly take from your writeup on gameplay and get some imagine work done...here's to hoping!

Yeah, hopefully you guys will figure it out.

Just remember (this is actually a general advice for everyone) if things didn't pan out and you had an argument with someone over an OT don't talk about how the other guy didn't want to cooperate and stuff like that in a negative way. These stuff are extremely frowned upon. (even if the other guy isn't bothered by it)

If anyone asked, just simply state that you or the other dude will or will not work on the OT.

Yeah, that makes you the first one who called it.
Though, the formatting is wrong

damn, sounds like some stuff went down that i missed, haha

and nah, i'd never hold any ill will towards someone riding for yakuza-GAF! i'd just hate to see the OT window for this one slip by with nothing to show for it - again, looking at the thread i believe i clearly have the early dibs on it, just wanted to clarify!

Yeah, that makes you the first one who called it.

that's no big deal, my formatting is always wrong!
oh man, if i cant get some banners going ill PM parakeetman about his awesome JP zero OT and ask if i can just lift a few, haha

Dunno if any of you know about this but in Yakuza 5 you can trigger a mini-date with the Cho-Han dealer. The reward is another Sacrifice Stone +
a kiss?
/Staminan Spark depending on how well you do. I made a post about it on the GameFAQs board (I haven't used that board in ages, lol.)

That time could've been better spent actually getting 100%. Oh well, still plenty of days left until Yakuza 0.

Spent the day playing more Yakuza 6, completed chapters 9 and 10 today. Its weird because unlike previous Yakuza games where you get loads of free time to do side stuff, this game seems like its really pushing me to complete the story far sooner than I usually do. Not a complaint, just means I'll do more in Premium Adventure mode.

Anyway (major spoilers...)

Yeah, I guessed the babies daddy early in the game, it was just a gut feeling I had, still at least it wasn't blatantly obvious like the entire plot to Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Still really liking the story, and I see why Haruto is so important now. The bit at the shrine where everyone was throwing Haruto like a football was hilarious, that baby has no fear! And of course almost everyone is changing allegiances (it wouldn't be Yakuza without a few double crosses!)
.

I've really gotten the hang of tiger dropping now, managed to pull it off more and more and it really helps make the game feel a little more epic. Another thing I'm constantly impressed by is how many enemies the game chucks at you - 5 especially flirted with this idea in the docks battle but they saved these types of battles for only a couple of points in the game while most of the fights in this game throw a ton of enemies at you (even on side missions) and at least on the Pro the game doesn't have any issues frame rate wise, seems to run a steady 30FPS (damn do I miss the 60FPS on the last three games though).

So with 10 chapters down I'd definitely say this has been one of my favourites in the series. Other than the gameplay improvements like no loading and improvements in the returning mini games I'm just really enjoying the combat. I kinda wish I wasn't "quite" so overpowered but it feels necessary for bosses, who don't pull their punches. The other thing that's really clicked with me this go round are the new cast of characters - I've really taken a liking to the Hiroshima cast (especially Nagumo and Hirose) and its got some cool antagonists as well in
Ed, who is so badass with his knife. Someya has probably my favourite 1 on 1 boss battle in the game so far, and Jungi
. I'm really liking a lot of the boss music used in the game so far, especially that used for the previously mentioned bosses.

And lastly, I'm really not bothered at the reduction of Side Stories. I've done around half of them so far (give or take) and so far I feel like quality wise they've been really good, in a quality over quantity sort of way. I guess them being fully voiced helps? Certainly draws me into them more, well that and some of the crazy stuff you end up doing in the side stories certainly helps keep me entertained.

I'll be interested to see what the ending ends up being like, I'm still concerned they'll take it one of two ways, both of which would feel like cop outs...

That's really interesting, I had no idea this little Easter egg was in the game. I'll have to give it a shot when I replay 5 for the platinum trophy. Thanks for the heads up :)

Just finished Yakuza 4. That game was absolutely incredible. Having those 4 final boss fights back-to-back was so badass and hype at the same time, I was super pumped the entire time. I liked Yakuza 3, but man you guys weren't joking when you said that Y4 was great. Such a genuinely fun game.

I would go back and continue Y5, but since Y0 is so close, I'll just put it on hold so I don't feel burned out. My hype for Y0 definitely increased by tenfold though!

Yakuza 4 has probably my favorite final boss of all time.

All four characters fighting four villains, on top of a skyscraper, money falling down, with 4 different remixes of the main theme.

It's brilliant.

4 wins it for me just by having
Daigo
as Kiryu's boss. I managed to guess the other 3 bosses over the course of the game but this one totally caught me by surprise and it made for one hell of an epic battle. Easily my highlight from the excellent game that's for sure.

Yeah it was known but many people didn't think much of it, but its a neat extra.

Ok, so in terms of Kiryu vs the animal kingdom, we've had:

Yakuza 2 - Kiryu punching a tiger
Yakuza 5 - Seijima squaring up against more than one bear
RGG Ishin - Another bear, one that's come down from the hills in search of food or possibly employment.
Yakuza 0 -
Yet another bear, this time in the fighting arena. They must really like that bear model
Yakuza 6 -
You get to punch a killer shark in the face! Thanks to the on rails shooter level. You also fight a couple of rather pissed off Octopi
.

Makes me wonder what animal they'll throw at the Yakuza cast next...

Almost done with Yakuza 6 now, just got two chapters left and almost all of the story is clear (I think). I also found out that I had one upgrade I'd missed that greatly improves the timing window for the Tiger Drop, its way easier to pull off now, so damn satisfying!

Well Kiryu in Yakuza 2 fights
4 tigers, Sengoku's two feral tigers, and in the arena there's Gekkou(a white tiger) and Shiranui(a red skinned tiger), plus there's El Diablo who is a lion(everyone seems to forget about him or never played that far).

Y3 he pushes a bull out of the way so I guess he kinda fought one

Plus yeah I count in Y6
the emperor squid, the giant octopus and bloody eye the shark as things he's fought

What're the major differences between Yakuza 1 and Kiwami?
Would you say, from a historical gaming POV, that Yakuza 1 (HD) is still worth playing through despite whatever improvements it's Kiwami remake offers?

Its it worth playing? Well in general I'd say no if you are a newcomer to the series since it improves a lot from the original game plus building off of Zero and its systems would be more familiar to anyone just getting in and starting with Zero(yes you can start with this one) as their first game in the series.

But if you are familiar with the series and played the original PS2 games and liked it/didn't mind it being "clunky" or something then yeah you can play it since they improved a lot on loading times, made backgrounds more clearer, fixed distance draw on lights, added a check list for foods/drinks and other stuff and if for anything its a better trip down memory lane from the original on the PS2 if you wanted to play the games again.

Yeah, while the HD port of 1 for the PS3 (and Wii U) did a great job at fixing several things (especially those damn load times) the clunky combat, inconsistent lock on and camera system are big draw backs to the game, it makes it a chore to do certain things (beating Komaki is a nightmare in the original game for me, took me bloody ages to manage that, and Amon is insanely cheap as well, better to just stun lock him than fight fair!).

While I believe a couple of the side missions are different in the original game, and you get to properly level up your Dojima style (as opposed to grind it out in the Anywhere Majima system in Kiwami) its just not really worth going back to these days - Kiwami adds more story, side stories, mini games, fixes the combat, fixes the camera, fixes the controls, implements all the combat enhancements and heat moves from 0 etc. its one of the best remakes I've ever played, right behind REmake in terms of how much I ended up enjoying it.
Thankfully Yakuza 2 was much more improved over 1, so if we somehow never get a remake at least it won't be painful revisiting that game.
