Psyonix crossing fingers for Rocket League on switch

Because they'd be giving their players a sub par experience. Do they really want headlines like "there are currently 80 people playing Rocket League on Switch?".

The game is less about content and more about the community. Lets not forget that Psyonix is a small developer. It is probably simpler for them from a server management position to just have a single pool of servers that everyone uses instead of a bunch only for Nintendo players.

If you're going to bring up this next generation chess game at least confirm or deny whether the multiplayer it worked with PS4.

Are you aware that RL cross play is not between consoles?

PS4 does not also allow cross-platform with XB1, so...

But wait... how the heck do you play Rocket League without analogue triggers? The game sort of requires analogue controls.

Where do people get this from?

Me and all my friends are playing it on PC without analogue triggers. I didn't even know they were a thing before this.

I play on PS4... Pretty sure I'd have trouble with the digital controls, but I'd definitely buy it and give it a shot. Portable Rocket League would be amazing.

Nintendo is dumb if they haven't already contacted them

could have just put a period after 'dumb'.

How long did it take for them to secure minecraft (and like, the last fucking platform to do so).

They're going to be charging for online, and there's no indication that they're gunning for the largest online games for their system.

No I play on PC and that isn't communicated in the game. So perhaps the server management situation is more complex than I thought. I still have my doubts Psyonix would want to do it unless they can offer parity with the other consoles.

All they have to do if offer crossplay with PC, just like the other consoles do.

I don't see that being a problem at all.

Minecraft seems to have been more because of "lol Nintendo" attitude from notch

Minecraft on Wii U has a SIGNIFICANT amount of added Nintendo content. That surely must have contributed to the 'delay'.

Minecraft was also in a weird position of the original owner not liking Wii U, the acquisition by Microsoft and the overall low sales of the Wii U.

So it wasn't only about Nintendo not securing it early. Heck, even after they did and Story Mode was announced first... It was also the last version to get all episodes.

At least Switch is getting both early.

This is the kind of game that should have been announced on the 12th. Such a no-brainer fit for the hardware and Nintendo's ideals.

Switch rocket league is a dream, especially with 2 player local.

Dreamed up some controls for single joycon local setup:

Accelerate - A
Reverse/handbrake/air roll - X
Tap for Ballcam/Hold for Gyro camera control - B
Boost - SL
Jump - SR
Reverse look - click stick
Chat menu - Y

If Niddhogg gets put on this system, it could be considered the GOAT coop machine. Especially once this thing gets cracked for homebrew.

I'd totally buy this again on Switch. Cross play with PC would be amazing too to play against my Steam friends when my wife has the television (but will probably never happen).

Rocket League and Overwatch should have been the first two third party games Nintendo went after for the Switch launch.

Lol @ the idea of Nintendo having their finger on the pulse of whats hot in gaming right now. Honestly I can't really talk though; I didn't realize RL was still a big deal currently but apparently it really has lasting power.

I've only played a bit but I can tell you this is not the kind of driving that requires analog accelerator.

Nintendo needs this on the Switch.

So of course they'll fuck it up.
:(
How about you calm down? You don't know what's going on between these guys and Nintendo. Nintendo is showing they're trying to get lots of smaller titles on the system and now you want to say they'll screw it up?

People play with keyboard and mouse on PC. A controller with analogue triggers will be better, but it's still playable.

I was actually really disappointed to not see this announced as a launch window game, tbh. It's such a perfect fit. Hopefully Psyonix's interest turns into something real very soon. This would be a good value proposition for a lot of gamers.

About the only good thing to come from Nintendo's paid online.

If what holds console crossplay back is that paywall, I would love to see compatibility between Switch, PS4 and Bone.

Regardless, I will gladly double dip if this happens. I can't quite imagine though what bonus cars we might see, though. Nintendo doesn't exactly have well known vehicles outside of Mario Kart, does it? Maybe ExciteTrucks/Bots?

I tweeted them a few days ago asking about it. No response but glad to see they've said something now.

Please happen, please. If this game existed on Switch that's a system seller on its own.

You can play on a Keyboard fine on PC.
It's not the best solution, but it works fine.

I can't quite nail aerials with KB&M like I can with an Xbox pad though.

That said, yeah it would be super fun to have impromptu versus matches with friends that have a Switch.

I'm hoping for the best, but if this dude's quote is any indicator it seems to be an uphill battle. Nintendo should be making this as easy as possible for the devs.

Seems like a lot of folks in the thread are already certain of what's going on behind the scene, and Nintendo - who have been surprisingly proactive with indie relations - is dragging their feet with this one. This is Nintendo, so it can't be any other reason.

Actually, what it does sound like - and there's not much to go on cept that vague statement - is that they are in some sort of verification stage(either for the game itself, or to become Switch devs) so nothing is official yet, but they are hopeful. *If* that's the case, I don't see anything preventing them. They'll probably know pretty soon.

To be fair, Nintendo has been pretty tone deaf and far from best-in-class when it comes to working to court third parties.

I'm getting REAL tired of third-parties saying stuff along those lines every single time they are questioned about the Switch.

This is what, the 4th or 5th since last week?

"I am bothered that Nintendo is actively bad at being a platform holder."

I'd expect to see more of this even after the Switch launches and people are hedging as to whether it's worth developing for it.

They don't want to cannibalize sales from their 1st party multiplayer game (Splatoon)... which is already going to suck due to no one paying for a subscription

I was thinking of Mario Kart. Sounds crazy but who knows with Nintendo. They seem so committed to first party

I am so adjusted to playing this on PC that it's legitimately difficult for me to pick up the console versions. I know I am not alone because a few coworkers have experienced the same thing. There's a sort of input lag in the PS4 version that I never experience when playing on PC. I'm relatively new to PC gaming, so this could be my ignorance speaking, but I worry that I would encounter a similar challenge in a Switch port, as good as it sounds. Who am I kidding, though? I'd buy this again in a heartbeat.

If it came down to dev kit funding Psyonix could easily judge interest and cover most of the development cost with a kickstarter.

Jeremy where is my Rocket League Switch Game!!!???

Part of me is happy to know this doesn't exist yet as I'd probably never unplug. Game is just so damn fun.😊

Sounds cool.

There are so many games that would be a perfect fit for the local multiplayer of the Switch.

We shouldn't need to beg devs and Nintendo to make it happen. If a game makes sense, that should be reason enough for it to be developed for the platform.

I want to see Gang Beasts on the Switch.
