Bit disappointed the team weren't working on a road/production car game. I mean, DR hasn't been out that long, and what is this going to do different? I hope they improve the wheel feedback in this one, it was awful in DR. Not a fan of the physics of DR either.

Ex-Evo guys are probably working on the next Grid. And Dirt Rally left a vacuum for an arcade Dirt game, so it makes sense bringing Dirt 4 this year, and with the good stuff from Dirt Rally to please the hardcore crowd. :)

Honestly, I was disappointed with the FFB on Dirt Rally too, but the physics is amazing! What's wrong with it? =o

I like Dirt Rally, but it's a little too sim heavy for me. Hopefully this splits the difference between sim and arcade like the pervious entries did

Dirt Rally now Dirt 4 they are smashing them out. Hopefully there is less gymkhana but "Stage" sounds interesting.

Now hopefully they will give us some information soon on when Dirt Rally PSVR will release, i'm impatient.

I hope they make psvr compatible.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
I loved Dirt 2, didn't played Dirt 3 and skipped Rally because I'm more of a arcade guy.

So this is a must buy for me. Great news.

Cautiously optimistic. Dirt Rally was was too much for me, so I hope this goes back to Dirt 2 and 3 in terms of feel. And hints and two different styles can keep both sets of fans happy.

Please please please have PSVR support. I bought Dirt Rally as soon as they announced it is coming. Dirt Rally is great but not going to lie, it's too difficult for me. The news that Dirt 4 will have 2 styles of play sim like Rally and a more arcade style like Dirt 3 is brilliant for everyone. Best of both worlds

Sweet! Make the handling model "throw your car around like a Swedish god" arcade thrills of Dirt 2 & 3 more than the "struggle to even keep your unwieldy car on the road" po-faced realism of Dirt Rally.

Loved all the games up until Rally, couldn't get on with it at all.

Tentatively excited for this.

I loved the Gymkhana stuff, I'd often load up Dirt 3 just to boot a car around the arena for 20 minutes or so to blow off steam.

Also, I loved the hyper-real, super saturated visuals of the previous Dirt games, maybe not massively realistic but so so pretty.

I can't begin to explain how disappointed I was with Rally, having spent hours and hours each with the previous games I deleted it after an hour or two. What the fuck was that handling model man? It's like there was an opposing magnet pushing against the bonnet of your car, constantly veering you off course. And the pace notes? Reams and reams of the stuff, always seemingly delivered about a second too late.

Urgh, that game...awful stuff, I hated it.

Two handling modes!! That's great (will never touch the gamer mode).

I sincerly hope console versions will run @60fps.

I attended the preview event today and can confirm that it does run at 60fps on PS4... sort of. The HUD elements were definitely 60fps, however, the game seemed to dip at times depending on the amount of action on the screen.

Unfortunately, direct capture was not available. I'm uploading a video of purely gameplay (word of warning: I am terrible). If anyone is interested in seeing my early impressions you can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1R5erH4Rew

I haven't played any of games in the Dirt series so I can't really comment too much on how it compares to the older games. I can imagine people who own steering wheels are going to love this game.

the handling was far more realistic. it is tough to go break neck speeds down narrow ass bumpy roads. but i can definitely see how it would be jarring for someone used to, or looking for, something more like dirt 2 and 3 (part 1 was less arcadey than those but still not really a sim... and was funky).

to your last complaint though, you can change how far out calls are made in the options. while default works for the most part there are definitely times when some calls come too late. i stepped it down one notch and it helps.

awesome!

the track creator thing is not what i was expecting.. but still pretty cool. gameplay look slike the arcade handling? do you know if thats what at least your own footage showed?

also, and maybe this plays into the "complexity" slider, but the road itself, the surface, looks really smooth. which is not at all how it was in rally... still concerned this is literally dirt 4 as a sequel to 2 and 3 but with the option for sim handling. the tracks themselves better still have the technicality of dirt rally's.

Amazing video! Can I add it to the OP?

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers for the video, was good to see footage and hear your impressions. You mentioned playing on the lowest difficulty - was there any option to have flashbacks at all? (i.e. Rewind about 10 seconds or so if you have an accident)

Also it looks like they've gone with a much more natural visual style than 1-3, a shame as I really liked the way 2 and 3 looked.

Wonder if they'll still have split screen multiplayer in it? Dirt Rally was missing it which was a bit frustrating.

Basically they confirmed that the game has two types of handling (one arcade like Dirt 1, 2 and 3, and the other is a full sim like Dirt Rally), an almost infinite number of tracks (there's a track generator), and they also said that Ken Block hasn't been around this time.

From that video it looks like it's Dirt Rally with an "easy handling" mode and new features.

Should be pretty good, but we'll have to see how much it offres to people who already own Dirt Rally.

Well if nothing else I would guess that this DIRT will have post launch support. I love DIRT rally but the lack of any sort of new countries/tracks/cars hurt its replability for me since there aint much there.

Looks like a typical arcade game and visually nothing special. Track creator is a nice touch though :)

Oh hell yeah. Racing is rolling.

I've gotta mess around with that terrain/route generation tool. If it works, that's amazing. They've tended to be pretty weak when attempted in the past. Frankly, if making distinct/fun roads was as simple as a button press, we'd see a lot more track content in racing games.

Rally was impossible for me on the slippery surfaces. I could keep up with the AI drivers in Germany, but in Sweden it was a joke.

Day 1. Looks like they learned a lesson about Dirt 3. I couldn't be bothered with that title. Dirt Rally is amazing and now we're going to see some upgrades based on the power of the Pro and Scorpio. We all win.

Nice! Thanks for sharing, I have no doubt the final game will run @ a steady 60fps (especially on the Pro). Nice lighting upgrade over Dirt Rally (and trees).

Oh man, give it to me now! I love me some Dirt (and Dirt Rally is amazing), but I need some new short course racing stat! Especially if they give the short course/land rush stuff the attention the rallying got in Dirt Rally.

No DLC for DiRT Rally and directly to DiRT 4 ... idk

Also... I had hoped for a new GRID game with a graphics engine helped by the Evolution guys :(

I was hoping too the ex-Evolution guys will push the new GRID but Rushy said it's a totally new IP made from scratch. Maybe starting from scratch will be better, but I think we will have to wait a bit longer than we would like to see some kind of Driveclub 2 on PC.

A new DIRT mixing Rally with 2 & 3 and VR seems cool enough for the time being. Really hope Paul and his team get all the time they need to make the game as perfect as they can.

I'd have been happier if they'd announced Dirt Rally 2, to be honest. Dirt Rally restored my interest in Codemasters games, having grown bored of the Dirt trilogy which tried to shove lots of experiences I had no interest in down my throat. I hope their focus is correct and that there's plenty of core rallying content.

I want a serious rallying game, not some sensationalist tripe. I especially don't want to have to do drifting events.

I loved Dirt and the different classes. I didn't even know about big ass truck racing until then. The gymkhana stuff turned people off, but would have been fine if they had a different career structure or something.

I really hope they don't water it down.

I'm not a big fan of sim racers but when it comes to Rally, I can't go back to anything else.

Dirt Rally has me hooked with that playstyle. Hopefully both arcade and sim can co-exist well with this new game, but I'm watching it carefully.

I'd say my biggest issue with DiRT 1-3 was the presentation and how bad it was to do the campaign. Way too much commentary and leading you around while not letting you skip shit.

Luckily DiRT Rally fixed those things, and plus they got exEvo dudes there who destroyed it with their Driveclub menus.
