Nintendo Switch Super Bowl Commercial

Weird that they didnt use the clips of some of the other parts of the extended part instead as they showed off way more features. I know they only get 30 seconds but seems like a missed opportunity for the general public.

Oh wow, the 30 second ad is actually much better than the full one in my opinion. Still wish they had the ending of the UK ads where you see the image switch to the TV. But very good, and a very good idea to focus on Zelda.

I agree. The first version generates just enough interest to start looking into it. It's really great.

The extended version emphasizes what everyone already knows Nintendo consoles do (family friendly, motion controls, etc). It's a bit redundant and long

Funny that after all the 'home console' focus, the advert that will be most people's first point of contact with the Switch shows it as a handheld you can dock.

Personally, I think that's a good thing. But it goes against what Nintendo were saying and the way their other marketing was portraying it.

I feel like the "home console" terminology is just there to defend the price point, and to give the 3DS some space in it's final year.

They showed Just Dance 2017 and Ultra Street Fighter 2 in the extended cut version, interesting 3rd-party picks, though I would've used either Super Bomberman R, Puyo Puyo Tetris (the Tetris part would be a big attention grabber) and/or Disgaea 5 Complete for the RPG market.

But the picks do give a nice nod to Ubisoft and Capcom who have been major supporters in the past (and hopefully on Switch).

Its good that the Switch has marketing push however I hope Nintendo is not limited by its available stock for the people that were convinced by these ads. I can already see people who first see this ad and think "wow I would like to buy one" only to find out its not readily available for purchase.

Having the system only being played in the dude's house in the 30 second version is a huge mistake if you ask me, it doesn't fully display how the system is different from the Wii U.

I was thinking that too, but in Nintendos favour, hardly anyone knows what a Wii U is.

Millions of people are gonna see this for the first time and be like "Holy shit it's out in less than a month?!"

That's the most clever part of this in my eyes. Having the release date so damn close means people, even if they can't get it on March 3rd itself, won't have long to change their minds on whether they want to get one or not if this ad sells it to them.

I find Nintendo's "examples" of Switch use ridiculous.

YESSS NINTENDO! SLAYYYY! I'm glad they didn't pass up this opportunity especially when the switch launches so near to the superbowl.

Maturity, bitches.
Switch is a much easier sell than the Wii U.

No words needed and you understand the basic selling point (you can switch between TV and handheld mode).

Wii U on the other hand was trying to sell asymmetric gaming. You needed a seminar to explain what it was about let alone a 30 second ad clip.

Now you wonder if they got like the 4th break in the 4th quarter. Still, impressive they opened the checkbook for a Super Bowl ad - and it's a good one!

Bad bad bad

That's their only Switch add for superbowl ?

Switch adds about how fun it is to play with friends >> GOOD

Switch add about how geeky and obsessed is it to play from waking up to end of the day without ever stopping >> BAAAAD

Of course GAF is reverse world and find the convivial adds horrible and thinks a single person playing zelda all day is a great commercial lol

The 30-Second Trailer is okay but the full extended trailer is fantastic honestly. Great music choice, solid editing, strong pacing and wide selection of games used in the ad. I really see Nintendo getting a lot of success with the Switch despite issues (accessory pricing, software line up, high price) if they keep up the great marketing.

Who's going to do this. Who.

Kids who actually go outside

me, my little cousin and my little god daughter

My fiancé and I have already talked about how fun it would be to take the pup, and the switch to the park on a nice day now and then. *shrug*

Having girls who fight for everything "I wanted it first!", "No it was me!" (real life dialogs), and as a cool gamer dad, I will use this draw game to make justice.

The answer is gatherings or groups of people as everyone here has mentioned.

I live 5 minutes from a park just like this and have every intention of doing exactly what they do here.
(well, maybe not 12 Switch... but def Splatoon!)

How many people are gonna see this commercial, say "oh I want that!" and then get denied a preorder?

Nice commercial though.

Why can't I preorder?

this is actually a good point.

What is the point of this commercial selling the system to people if they can't buy it?

Nintendo better have this thing restocked immediately. So help me if people aren't able to get one in stores for like MONTHS after it comes out..

Zelda boss spoilers, for those of you on blackout until the release. (Unless they were in the most recent trailer already—I only watched it once and can't remember.)

This being the Super Bowl, it does make sense to go after an extended market of people lapsed since the Wii while reasserting support for 'core' habits by showing off the Pro Controller and grip. For a grand tour of a system designed around versatility, the message seems relatively focused.

My guess is seeing as how the game doesn't come with the system, probably not many..

I don't think this game is going to sell very well at all. Especially considering how much it costs.

Kimishima basically said that more are coming in March.

I agree they should have used the other clips together honestly would have given more exposure rather than one dude playing by himself.

Watch the Extended version.

Both ads are great.

Legit expected that thread title to be a troll "lol whatif rite guyz? :D" bait and switch, but they actually did it.

Good shit, Nintendo.

Same here, thought for sure OP was going to be asking what would make for a good super bowl commercial etc. Was really surprised to find a YouTube link.

Great ad overall. That boss fight looked awesome in the rain!

I haven't even watched it yet, but the fact that they're doing a Super Bowl commercial at all means that they're very serious about this, that they want everyone to be aware of this thing.

Which is good.

I hope that they've ramped up production significantly enough that everyone who wants one can get one in 2017.
