Might be a huge coincidence but I didn't have the beta in my games list so I did the following:

Went to the register page to make sure it was reading my beta status from the database

http://ghost-recon.ubisoft.com/wildlands/en-GB/beta-registration/index.aspx

Further confirmed the status by checking the actual beta page you only have access to if you're in

http://ghost-recon.ubisoft.com/wildlands/en-GB/beta/index.aspx

Then finally re-checked the beta access page

https://account.ubisoft.com/en-GB/beta-access

Then all of a sudden it was there. YMMV.

And you don't need to accept a friend request first. Person with the invites just needs to initiate the friend request for your name to show up on the invite list. This is confirmed.
