These enemies are kind of taking a lot of arrows to go down. Wonder if that's the norm or he's just low level on the stream.

Baring in mind he said about 10 times he was under-levelled, I'd say yes, it's because he was under-levelled.

Are people watching this with the sound turned off?

Getting the Uncharted --> Uncharted 2 vibe here, with Horizon being an even better starting point.

I think the hand-to-hand combat will evolve into something like Dragon's Dogma in the sequel and of course all the other aspects (story, acting, presentation) will go up.

I'm expecting 8.8 or 9.0 average on the meta with the sequel knocking it out the park. I think some of the aspects of the quest will be weaker than the main storyline, and the hand-to-hand combat doesn't look as fun, that will bring it down from being truly great in all aspects, although if the main storyline wows, it could get another boost and more cons will be ignored.

Thee bullet sponginess might be just him being underleveled but it doesn't really seem to change the gameplay all the much which is a shame.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Aloy doesn't actually get boosts in power from leveling up only skill points and HP and its the gear that deals the damage.

He also said several times how much easier it would be if he had bought a better bow instead of whatever else he bought.

He kept on running to different animals, so I wasn't sure what animal he was under-leveled compared to, and I have no idea what leveling up will do as far as power for the character, or if the enemies level up as you do too so the relative power difference stays roughly the same. Even the "smaller" enemies seemed like they were taking a lot of hits. It was just a simple observation.

Well it is an action RPG :)

That's another thing that makes this different from action games with just RPG elements. You need to level up and grind if you actually want to do well against high level enemies or else it will take forever to them down or worse... get one shotted.

good to know. would of been nice to see how combat is when your at the right level though.

Well against the weaker/smaller non-corrupted enemies (like the Watchers) Aloy was probably at a fine level in that stream. And I didn't watch the whole stream, but most of those seemed to go down without too much trouble.

Do you really think it was going to be easy to take to take down new machines?

Its all about the tactics you sued and the equipment.

My main concern is that the rope launcher + let enemies run into ropes tactic seems like it might be really easy to abuse. Do we know if other machines will avoid or not be affected by ropes?

I mean, I don't want to one shot new enemies, but I also don't want each battle lasting 5 minutes + if I'm just farming materials. Like I said, it was just a simple observation based on what I was seeing in the stream.

Any robots Leaping Attack seems to go over the Wire. So that's probably what they put as the counter.

People keep forgetting this is an Action RPG.

And there's a reason why Action RPG design concerns me. Even Dark Souls has issues with balancing stats vs skill to an extent. And as praised as Dragon's Dogma is, its stats nigh on screw up its action balancing.

It's all about using the right ammo and hitting the right spots. You can one-shot Watchers, 2-shot Striders/Grazers consistently if you know how fairly early on (tear damage is your friend, and fire arrows will blow up blaze canisters).

It'd be interesting to see how fast people will be in taking down a Thunderjaw.

I'm watching the archived live-stream and the graphics during the dialogue-scene early on is great. Excellent and realistic looking characters.

edit: Those eyes are so convincing. Looking at later dialogue scenes as well.

Yeah you need to be properly equipped for the Thunderjaw, etc.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
should i buy a ps4 just for this game gaf

its only 265 for a slim with uc4

hmmm

At this point in the PS4's life I don't think its a bad choice at all if you like gaming. Its got multiple games in most every genre even niche ones. There are even a couple different CRPG's at this point and the influx of new games, especially Japanese ones, is growing larger and larger. I'd say go for it, there are a ton of good games, even exclusives, at this point.

as i said im also interested in bloodborne and uc4

maybe tlou too

TLOU is a masterpiece in storytelling.

If you're familiar with the Uncharted series, UC4 is an excellent purchase but it can be enjoyed all the same without playing the other prequels... conveniently their remasters are available and probably some of the best on the system.

If you like a fun platformer/shooter, Ratchet & Clank is a must...Oh and Bloodborne you need in your collection.
