After Chrono Trigger, what is the SNES' next best RPG?

Secret of Mana. Game is like a fine wine. Others will say FF6. They might be right.

Edit: For story and aesthetic Earthbound gets high marks however.

Earthbound. Played it for the first time last year and I'm angry that I didn't get to play it during the 90s. It had to be an almost life changing experience! Went straight to my top ten of all time.

FFVI
Lufia 2
Terranigma
Secret of Mana
Seiken Densetsu 3(Secret of Mana 2 if you're willing to play in Japanese)
Super Mario RPG
Earthbound

pick any of the above.

TBH though, the SNES was an RPG powerhouse

I think a pretty valid case can be made for Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, and Earthbound to be the best RPG on the SNES, best RPG ever, best game in general on the SNES, etc. That's a really strong group of games no matter what order you put them in so long as Super Mario RPG is #1.

Fan translation of Seiken Densetsu released a long ass time ago.

FFVI easily for me.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Chrono and ff6 are both amazing but chrono has the edge. FF6 is a very close second though.

FFVI but Super Mario RPG and EarthBound deserve to be in the conversation. The real question is what else is in the top five or top 10, one and two are already spoken for.

I'm pleased by how everyone in this thread is nailing it thus far.

A cursory glance at the first page will tell you that FF VI is at best superior to Chrono Trigger (my belief) and at worst the answer to query. Let's close this up...

As has already been made evident by the replies, the exact order varies but CT, Earthbound, FFVI, and SMRPG are easily the top RPGs on the SNES.

The real debate is which game ranks 5th behind those. I mean you have Secret of Mana, Zelda LTTP, Secret of Evermore, Illusions of Gaia, etc...
