Instead of giving us new games, they give us new options (BC, EAA, GWG, now this) to play old games... But it seems consumer friendly enough so there's that I guess.

Yeah, basically.

Guys, this is a really cool addition. Stop trying to make a negative out of it...it looks ridiculous.

They have new games. I'm finishing Gears 4 up this week, and I need to get back into Halo Wars 2 as I've only finished 3 missions. I'll probably put those on hold though as Horizon: Zero Dawn will be waiting for me to start this evening (woohoo).

Don't crap up the thread.

I think this is really cool, but at the same time isn't this kinda double dipping. It's good enough that you want to spend the extra 10 bucks a month on top of gold but you get free games with gold. I can only imagine many of those games will have been free or be free in the future. It also raises the question what happens to gold? Does it lose its value? Decrease game releases, value of games being offered decreases, etc to favor a new paid service. I think this is a great value proposition if you already didn't have to pay for gold. If you really think about it it's already more than a gold sub. If they asked you for 180 bucks for the year for gold with this "open" library you'd be ok with that? That's what they're asking of you is it not?

Heh, I was just wondering to myself which of the big platforms would do a subscription service first. Microsoft wins.

There were content subscription services since last gen...

Between this and the PS Now references it feels like some completely misunderstand what these models are, and are for. (Although sometimes it feels like these companies also don't understand that, so perhaps that's not too surprising!)

There's some quality there, can definitely see me subbing to this when it's in full swing during the dry months.

I'm just explaining the words you quoted to you. I'm not trying to divine unstated intent.

It's just logic. Why wouldn't you be able to use the DLC you paid for? Because you can no longer access the base game that the DLC requires to run.

Seems like a pretty awesome service though.

Yikes.

Finally, my Xbox has got it's trump card. I knew I would get a reason to undust it eventually (and I'm not talking about just one game).

Edit: Never mind the list is shit lol.

This and Scorpio at the end of the year.

Maybe I'll Jump In.

Saw this post and it does bring to light how great of a deal this is for new purchasers in the ecosystem... pick up an XBO, shell out ~$13/month and you get this + EA Access...

Not a huge fan of what are now essentially 3 different tiers of service

XBL Gold - you get multiplayer, cloud saves, and 4 games a month but now will those games be as good?

EA Access - you get your EA game pass sub service

XBox Game Pass - ok, now you get some different games

I'd frankly rather collapse all 3 into one tier, $10/mo or $70 (?) a year gives you access to all of it. Or at best two tiers - XBL Gold gives you multiplayer/cloud for $20/yr and pass gives you everything for $10/mo.

Many years ago when MS launched live - an online service you had to pay for (when PS & PC etc were free) - I said it was the thin end of the wedge....I was right.

I could swallow when Sony started PS plus because of the free games, but as you say - then EA access came along and now this (or with Sony PSNow - although that reaches further than the console market so can sort of understand that).

I don't like the way it's going.

It's not a complaint, it would actually be outrageous if they let people keep them.

But so many are assuming they do keep them. And the same for the 20% discount. That's for game pass titles only.

I did not say it was a complaint, but it is obvious what you have been trying to do.

As I said. People dont tend to read much of the time.

But wait, doesn't MS have some leverage here since these are BC titles that can be played locally on the XB1 compared to the PS4 not having BC which means that PS Now would be the only option for PS3 titles?

To be clear: PSNow is worse, not this subscription model :)

Damn this is good.

I would even say that this is a dream service for guys like me who mainly play single player games once.

I say damn cause I only own a PS4, Sony plz offer a service alike.

I don't think this is a answer to anything, just MS seeing a market and making a move. My point was Sony don't need to make a move as they already have comparable services.

I honestly see it as a mix of both. This is definitely Microsoft doing their own thing, but there are too many similarities to PSNow to believe that they didn't take inspiration from there.

As for your second statement, I fully reject the idea that Sony has no need for improvement here. Microsoft took their idea and improved upon it, so they would be wise to make a move of their own. I'm not saying that they will, but it'd also be silly for them to just ignore this without at least thinking of how they can improve their own offering.

Is the difference here that sony streams the content and MS allows you to download it?

Im assuming they wont be able to offer newer games

Seems like an awesome idea. But it all depends on the list of games. And based on the provided alpha list...its gonna have to be much better.

Hopefully this provokes Sony to do something.
It wont

what's a bit unclear to me is....let's say they add Halo 5 to Game Pass. I will be able to play it as long as i am a Game Pass member, right? But if they remove it from Game Pass, i can not play that game anymore? Even though it's downloaded and installed?

Microsoft has clearly done an excellent job hiding the fact that these games are only playable while they are part of the play pass service, subscribed or not, downloaded or not, judging by the reactions assuming otherwise.

It really is like netflix- when something is removed from the service it's gone. You would have to purchase it to play that game.

It is like Netflix. I don't think there is any confusion on that front. The public is pretty well versed on how this stuff works now that Netflix allows you to download shows and movies.

So it's basically like GwG but it costs $120 per year instead of $60 (and doesn't offer online)? errrrr. Not what I was thinking when I heard it.

And that's not all either.

You see?? You see why building your catalog and having your games accessible on future hardware is important? I've been saying this for years. Now switch that list out with a bunch of games from the PS1, PS2, PS3( not possible because Cell lol), and PS4. Or Virtual Console games from NES, SNES, N64, GCN, and WII, and WII U. This would give the platform holders incentive to actually BUILD a lasting catalog of games that they can continue to make money off of.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

Man, I love gaming competition! Last place console always brings it.

Anyway I won't be able to play all these games. Serious first world problems
