Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

for people buying USB c cable extenders without doing some research:

" But the issue of incompatible cables is even more serious. Many companies, including my go-to source, Monoprice, are building USB-C cables of various quality and compatibility. If you’re not careful, you can neuter or even damage your devices by using the wrong cable. Seriously: Using the wrong cable can damage your machine! This should not be possible, but there it is.

The problem is that the nintnedo switch DOCKED uses more power than handheld mode, and they switch basically overclocks. If you use an extender, the switch might not get enough power required to work harder, which might damage.

Mine shipped yesterday, but not arrived today. Says I should have it by the 9th. Will let you know how everything goes.

Did you pay for faster delivery? Mine shipped on Feb 20th and has an estimated delivery of March 14-16th...

Edit - just went to order one now and I get a 11 Mar. 2017 - 15 Mar. 2017 estimated delivery. So my order 'dispatched' 15 days ago is scheduled for later delivery than if I was to order one right now. Seems like bullshit.

Has anybody confirmed that you can successfully plug a female USB C to male USB cable into the dock so that you can plug the switch in without sliding it into the dock?
Yes, in theory...
Added an image for now. Just waiting on the Hori Stand. You can see the reflection of zelda running on my monitor on the Switch Screen.

My joycons are FINE as well as my friends....so what are you talking about? Once again, something that happens to a very small amount of people is something that happens to everyone according to neogaf....

The battery life is as good as any other device that uses so much power as this one does.

32GB internal storage...and probably you have a 32GB internal storage iPhone (without the option of buying a cheap SD card to extend it) and paid for that a couple hundreds more than for the Switch but no complains about it....

By the way....did you buy a Switch? Cause most of the people here bitching about it don't even have one.
I do not know why you are defending 32GB of storage. How many games can that hold.. one? Two?

I've been using the dock without much care since putting the hori protector on. No marks or lines on the screen protector yet.

I really think this is a case of faulty and poorly made docks being too narrow. Fortunately not everyone will experience this.

because of Price? or do you think nintnedo would increase the internal storage or add a sd card for FREE??

People are disconnected from reality. Most low priced tablets don't come with 32gb storage, and 64 usually increases the price by $50-75.

Offering SD card expansion is the better option for a portable device.

The fact is 32GB of storage is a bare minimum amount, letting you download a small handful of games. The entire point of the post this chain sprouted from is that Nintendo designed a handheld that requires all of these extra purchases to overcome the shortcomings. One of these extras is an SD card to make up for the severe lack of storage.

Enough with the strawmans.

nothing is for free. if you want to keep the price down, you need to cut costs, period. If that bothers you that much, buy an extra SD card. I don't need extra SD card, so I would rather pay less than get something I won't use it paying more.

people complained that the price of the switch should ahve been $250, but then complains that they didn't get gorilla glass or extra internal storage LOL

You CAN'T have both ways, sorry. Nintendo already said multiple times they won't see the switch at a loss, so accept that.

Where did I say Nintendo cheaped out? It's a fact that 32GB is nothing for storage. I would like to be able to download more than two AAA games onto my console out of the box in 2017.

It doesn't bother me much, but the original point is valid. How much it does or does not bother me is irrelevent to the original point.

Please stop putting words in my mouth.

Unfortunately for Nintendo, their peers do sell at a loss. Nintendo's willingness to not subsidize their console ecosystem does not absolve them from criticism.

what cable should we buy then?

So I'm guessing we're no closer to knowing the actual facts about this "issue", are we? They removed the dock from the store (but still available in some territories, like Canada)

Is the scratch thing a very widely reported issue, or a case of loud minority who are, without putting too finer point on it, being too careless with the system.

I hate to be the "it's not happening to me, so it's not true" guy, but having spoke to around a dozen people I know who have Switches, none of them have reported seeing scratches due to docking and un-docking their system. I personally dock and undock my system multiple times a day (a good 3-5 times at least) and have yet to see any kind of damage.

I'm not saying it's not happening, it obviously is, but I just wonder why. Maybe some docks are manufactured more narrowly than others? I guess I'm not going to start worrying until I hear official word from Nintendo.

For people talking about cables - I'm using a "Cable Matters" branded USB-A to USB-C charge cable going into a KMASHI 15,000 mAh power bank. I only used it once yesterday, but it charged fine. Didn't feel hot or anything.

Is Nintendo.com the only place to buy the dock?

Because I can't find it on Amazon.com or gamestop.com, and Bestbuy as well.

Loss or no loss you have to look at comparable devices and what is being offered. 32gb on a tablet is either generous standard or the 2nd tier higher storage offering these days, and usually comes at a premium.

This is not a device with a mechanical hard drive that can have 1tb of storage for $40. It is simply different than a plug in the wall and connect to a TV console.

nobody has tested a USB C cable extender with the switch dock in terms of power generated, etc.. we know the switch powers on, and people in this thread have been playing, but we don;t know any specifics on whether the switch will work like it is docked, safety, etc.. Do you want to be the first one, and let us know in a few weeks/months how did work out?

this is how some people dock their switches irl lmao

Also, unless I'm just not looking hard enough, I'm finding just ONE picture actually showing the scratches - and it's in the OP (originally from Glixel) everything else is anecdotes from people claiming to have similar issues. :/

How 32GB internal storage is "poor"? It doens't require an SD card, unless you want to go all digital or buy lots of indies. My PS4 is 500GB and it still enough to get every one of my games at the same time on the consoel.

It's poor considering the size of retail games. You get about 25 GB of free space. A game like Zelda takes up about half of that. Dragon Quest Heroes I&II takes up more space than what is available, so if you want to buy it digitally, a memory card is a must.

But I give props to Nintendo for going with micro SD cards instead of a proprietary format like the Vita used. I picked up a 200 GB card for about $60, versus paying $100+ for a 64 GB Vita memory card. And 32 GB is obviously better than nothing or the 1 GB of space that Vita 2000 models ship with.

Every site I've been to that covers this issue seem to reuse the picture shown in the OP. Ultimately, if it's truly as widespread as people say, there ought to be an entire GALLERY of examples showing scratched screens.

How difficult is it to take a picture?

Anyone know what that Anker tempered glass kit on Amazon was costing before it sold out? I'm having 2nd thoughts with my Ozrly purchase and would rather deal with a company that is stateside than based in the UK while I live on the west coast of the US. I would just eat the cost of the Ozrly protector since it would cost more than its worth to return it.

That and the Anker has a lifetime warranty and the Ozrly only has 2 years. (Anker has Amazon support too)

I'm guessing that if there were such scratches or random markings, the lion's share will occur in the red/white area shown below...

I'd still like a straight answer on whether the dock is supposed to be bent as badly as many users are reporting.

Stretched my dock overnight with a book, and it definitely helped a little bit. I have the tiniest bit of wiggle room now. Before I had none. I increased the amount of stretching before work this morning and I'll check again when I get home this evening.

Docked twice last night and no scratches yet, even with a bent dock.

The screen has been tested on the Mohs scale and is very soft. It's going to get scratched with day-to-day use regardless of your dock. It's designed like a kid's toy. The only solution is a screen protector.

Never used a screen protector on anything sure there are probably scratches on my screens but they are not even noticeable on my wii u 3ds, psp, psvita phone etc. Deep scratches are rare if you are carefull. The worsed thing i ever had was a dead pixel wich is more annoying then a small scratch you wont even see when you play a game.

If people are carefull user damage will be minimal.

The dock issue is true for a enough amount of people to get theirs replaced imo, mine is fine switch docks straight and the dock itself is straight no scratches yet on the places the dock causes them.

Contact Nintendo or let them know if many people do this they might replace the docks for people who are affected.

Seeing as there was a thread about the Dock being sold out on 3/4/2017 for other retailers, safe to assume it is being pulled from retail currently.

There is no listing on amazon, gaemstop, bestbuy, target all of which are sellers listed on Nintendo's site.

So something is up with that. Even if they were sold out at other retailers they would still have a product page which currently there isn't.

Looks like it is being pulled.

Don't have any scratches so far but installed a screen protector (the one that comes with the official case) just to be safe. Normally never use these things.

Thankfully I managed to put in on without any bubbles or enclosed dust particles. It's barely noticeable.

I got a Switch last night. The screen is already scratched despite being incredibly careful and undocking maybe twice. They're very fine and you can't see them at all unless it's the right angle, but how fucking stupid is this issue!? Last night my friend said "yeah, but if there's any company you wouldn't be surprised at doing this, it's Nintendo". Sadly, that's completely true.

Just checked and I misread the thread it said Switch Stock. My bad.

Pretty sure I remember seeing the Switch Dock on best buy's website when it was first announced in January for preorders?

Unless I'm mistaken, again, man I need more coffee to post.

That gif is hilarious, but I'm not sure what you are trying to gain here by attempting to discredit other people's claims. My Switch also hasn't scratched and I've been lucky that I've had zero crashes. Hell, I even put the wrist strap on the wrong joycon and managed to get it off, which the Crowbcat youtube video would indicate is an impossible task.

If other people are experiencing issues, what do you gain by trying to dismiss them? There is clearly something going on with the Switch. Not using glass for the screen was a major issue. I suspect they thought it would be more durable than glass for kids, but didn't really think about how easily it could scratch.

Just let people voice their concerns. These are mostly Switch owners who are having issues. I agree that there are tons of threads on here and Reddit with people shitting all over the Switch for fairly stupid reasons, but people who are voicing legitimate concerns with a product they've purchased are entitled to do so.

I barely use the dock and even I have a few small scratches on my screen. Not to mention that screen protectors are sold out just about everywhere down here and the ones that most stores carry have awful reviews. Really sucks.

I'll probably just order one of those popular glass ones on Amazon at some point this week.

I guess I might as well post my experience. There's no wiggle room in my dock the console is held snugly in. Ive docked and undocked it many times and have no scratches.

I'm not dismissing claims. I am fully aware people may be having problems. I've seen videos showing screen defects and other issues. I'd have to be pretty naive and ignorant to assume otherwise. I even stated above that I agree wholeheartedly that the dock could be better designed, and maybe in a future revision that'll be the case, I'm just questioning why for as many people that claim to be having scratch issues, why there's so few pictures showing the damage. I went through the first 20 pages of this thread and have looked on various news outlets reporting the issue and have yet to see more than one picture showing damage. It's 2017 - it's easy to make things go viral, and by now I'd expect a whole slew of pictures showing examples. It would help to know where the scratches are occurring, how deep they are and so forth. I'm not calling BS, I would just like to see more pictures that give insight, and that shouldn't be so hard with as widespread as people claim the issue to be.
