What is a possible Microsoft answer to Horizon Zero Dawn and Breath of the Wild?

Unless you own stock, who gives a fuck about marketing materials? I'll be playing it on my Xbox, i guess some will be happy that commercials have a Sony logo though.

Calm down he was responding to seeing it at Microsoft's E3, which we won't. Hell we might not see it running on Scorpio till release.

I have found it tough to invest in Xbox over the last 5 years.

Now all of this is imo, not looking to bother anyone

But Halo and Gears for me are past their prime. Not saying they will not sell. Halo just isn't good imo. Reach campaign was one of the best I've ever played. But last 3 MP's were poor. Last 2 Gears are poor as well. In fact, 3 of 5 Gears I don't think positive things about. But Gears 1&3 were great.

And Forza... I so far would take GT and Mario Kart. Don't get me wrong, there are a number of great things Forza does. But none of it actually involve racing. Once the race starts, Forza is very generic.

And it feels like if I want to like Xbox, I must love those 3 franchises. Because everything else is inconsistent.

If Microsoft owned Uncharted, would there have been an Uncharted 2? Because the first Uncharted didn't show a ton of promise. I can't help but wonder.

So to the op question, Microsoft would need to buy a near completed game.

Again all imo

Still impressive none the less. Coupled with decent gameplay and story should be an awesome game. What other game is doing this on this level?

I want a huge map with a lot of variety in terrain and I'm eager to see how they evolve the gang system.

I don't care whether something is an exclusive. Just release quality products or get other people to make quality products for your system. I'm looking forward to Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves but they have literally no support from third party devs this generation. That's where the gap is between this gen and last gen.

A new controller.. Xbox One now have more controllers than games.. that must be some kind of record ;)

They're relying on 2nd/3rd parties to bring new and exciting things to the console rather than letting 1st parties take a shot at it.

They need to let 1st parties make new stuff.

Like I said, different strategies. MS want to collaborate and partner with second and third party devs to bring games to their platforms. This brings its own positives and negatives to the table.

You need to try Horizon then.

The general consumer definitely does or at least will be influnced. Imagine walking in store and the avarage joe sees ps4 bundled with red dead 2, guess what he will be buy.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Scalebound until it was cancelled. Crackdown is whats left for now.

Future MS first party line up is looking kinda bare these days.....

Minecraft

This might be the best answer, lol

Might can rephrase the question now to did Sony and Nintendo answer Minecraft....

I love how everyone thinks that scalebound was this misunderstood, brilliant game that was unjustly cancelled. Jesus Christ.

They need a studio that focuses on RPGs a la Mass Effect 1. Thats what they need imo.

didn't those guys just produce mass effect: andromeda. a title considered by most to be mediocre? i'm not sure that's what they need.

p.s. scalebound was an action RPG.

I think they tried to stretch the wait for Scorpio campaign too far. It's starting to turn and there are still months and months to go. All eyes are on Ms for e3.

mass effect 1-2 3 were incredible. They need games in that style is what i mean. And if scalebound was good, it wouldnt be dead.

If it was a studio like 343 or The Coalition yeah there would have been a Uncharted 2.
Just like Guerilla Games and Naughty dog can pretty much try again.

Those are the flag ship studios of both platforms.

Hyperbole. They don't have as much support as Sony, especially when it comes to Japanese games, but most major publishers are onboard and releasing their titles on both XO and PS4.

If you genuinely believe that the gap between the PS4 and the PS4 Pro is subtle enough to mean that games on the Pro are merely 'PS4 games in high res', but the gap between the PS4 Pro and Scorpio is so enormous to mean that it will match up to high end contemporary PC games, I feel sorry for you. Mark my words, the differences will be subtle and iterative, because that's all the specs will allow for especially when you remember that games developed for Scorpio will necessarily be built for feature parity with the Xbox One. Expecting a larger gap than exists between the PS4 and the Xbox One is naive. If you consider that to be a chasm, then fine, but I think most people know it's a fairly subtle difference in most games. The most likely thing is for Scorpio's power to be used to push 4K, verse the Pro utilising tricks like checkerboard rendering to hit that resolution. This isn't just going to be a subtle difference, it's going to be a difference most people don't even have the right screens to see.

Either way, Microsoft should not be planning on countering actual games with hardware.

This, this, this.

Seriously, "please buy another $400 console" is not the answer to your competition's large, diverse game catalog.

Phil, just greenlight and fund a single player, all out Fable. That's it. It's a lay up.

Tease it far out. Have regularly updated Dev diaries so we have a constant slow burn of excitement for its release. Concept Art, etc.

Hire back some of the old Lionhead's staff and bring them on board.

I'll buy back into Xbox again and other people will.

Edit: Don't make it F2P, MMO lite, PVP MT gold mine. Just make it a balls out, high production value Fable with some Cooperative elements. Boom. I am in.

I would rebuy an Xbone if they did this. Honestly, after there wasn't a new Fable and they cancelled Scalebound, there just wasn't much I was looking forward too, so I swapped it toward a Switch. A new AAA single player Fable would bring me back.

Can you imagine what happen if they didn't announce Scorpio in advance?
Like every now and then, Xbox still able to grab some headline thanks to new "leak" "talk" or anything Scorpio.
Doom talk will be 10 times worst than this, Xbox will be forgotten by major media outlet.

If Xbox One Scorpio had been announced at E3 and then shipped in October?

It would have been a literal megaton. The excitement would have been off the charts.

I have no idea why they announced it 18 months before it shipped. It was a terrible decision.

Would people really be excited when it's still the same games? How excited are people for the PS4 Pro?

And that coupled with the overall disinterest in Xbox outside of North America makes me really wonder if there'd be much excitement.

It would have leaked way before then. One of the reasons they did it that way was that so they could give developers the information asap so that they could start working on its games and not worry about it leaking, which it would have.

not everything is about creating megatons. Some decisions are about effectiveness.

Scalebound looked cool, come on... That could have been a great game. Not on the Horizon/Zelda caliber of awesomeness but a good game.

a car from forza in an open world rpg with microtransactions

This could be the NPCs giving you sidequests

I would quite happily buy an XB1 for that, the small amount of optimism I have is something at e3.

There's a huge difference between a leak and coming out on a stage 18 months early and talking about "highest quality pixels".

It would be more like the launch of the Switch. Sure, we had rumors of the NX, but rumors aren't an announcement.

It's all "what-ifs?" at this point anyway. We got what we got.

difference is, how many developers actually had access to a switch during all that time? Did they know the specs, the details? if youre a developer, how do you work on a game for a console if you dont have all the details?

With scorpio, the details are out there and devs can work on games right now without having to wait for MS to 'reveal' it. Had switch come out with it earlier, there might have been more games for it at launch.

I think that officially announcing a new console at E3 18 months before it ships was a mistake, and you don't. We disagree, and that's fine.

Search Xbox Scorpio on Twitter. This is for the last half hour alone.

And its been this way since it was announced last Summer, the hype has been building for months.

To stop people trading in their xbones for pros? Who announced first?

No offense, but seriously? No thanks. The less interaction I have with the Xbox Twitter Army, the better.

Was just about to say the same. Whats wrong with building hype? Hopefully Scorpio delivers. Why is it a bad thing to do, when companies announce games a few years early. People are still hyped for those games. Shit i just saw a Death Stranding thread and who the hell knows when Kojima is gonna release that game.

Yeah but you also dont seem to understand what 'keeping it under wraps' actually entails. If devs dont have the full details as soon as possible, thats that much less time they get to work on Scorpio games and ultimately either delays games or straight up gets games that wont fully support Scorpio mode (like a lot of ps4 pro games at launch). Why do you think ps4 pro didnt have a huge list of pro enabled games when it came out? Its also why switch has barely any games right now.

If all you care about is megaton news then yes, it was probably a bad move. I care more about have a lot of games support it on day one. Crazy i know.

Keep saying that to yourself when last gen they had both Bioshock and Mass Effect on day one in addition to the majority of support on XBLA. This gen they are waiting for devs to make late ports like Sony was last gen. They are always going to have support of the huge multiplatform games and I don't think that will ever change.

It's a conversation device. A source of prestige. What else did they have to keep them halfway relevant this past year? Nothing. Scorpio has been the default answer to everything. That's its entire value.

Once the price is announced, the hype will deflate quickly. After a month, it'll hover onto 10% of Xbox One hardware sales and nothing will have changed.

While it's not going to be a new gen or anything, the Scorpio launch is going I be a major event. MS does big thing for a game like Halo Wars 2, Scorpio is going to be sang from high heavens

Not crazy makes sense. Build hype, build games targeting hardware. No one has forgotten about Scorpio and within the next few months marketing is going to begin ramping up.
