Star Wars Battlefront 2 Sony Ad Leak

How was the gameplay in the first one? I guess I'll keep my eye on this
until I find out that Jango isn't playable
.

People will tell you it was too shallow, but as someone who doesn't play a lot of games these last couple of years, who hasn't been invested in shooters for way longer than that, who has little free time to spend on gaming (think 2 hours a week tops), and who really appreciates the more arcadey, pick up and play-style, I thought it was great.

But, you know, that's coming from a very specific angle. It just depends on what you're looking for.

Mostly, it's just pretty as hell, and that's the real draw.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

I fall on the shallow side of things. There were no classes, thus there were no real roles to play other than spamming your gun and especially grenades(cards gave a slight twist, but ultimately didn't affect the crux of the issues). Most levels ended up focusing on a single choke point where no side could make great progress due to the quagmire of explosions and death. The weapons differed from each other in a scant few categories leading to the feeling of them feeling very samey.

It's a simple game to pick up and play, but I never felt like an active participant in the battle. You get cut down far too easily and its difficult to ever feel heroic or beneficial. Also the complete segregation of the DLC and vanilla content meant bouncing back to the main menu regularly to try a few new stages which was fucking lame(there is no hopper to enjoy a randomized mix of everything the game has to offer on a rotation, all due to the flawed business model).

Looks spectacular, but little issues like collecting tokens to jump into a vehicle rips you out of the immersion quite a bit. I wanted to love it, but I walked away very quickly both at launch and a year later with all of the DLC and patch updates with renewed optimism.

Well, technically, if the Death Star was above the Forest Moon of Endor when it exploded, it was above Endor as well. Which is obviously totally what I meant and nobody can prove otherwise.

Nerd-cred restored. Talked myself out of that one. Now give me my Jar Jar DLC.

At first i assumed this was all we'd be getting on Saturday, but i just read there's also going to be gameplay. I rewatched some of the Battlefront 2015 initial gameplay videos earlier and i hope the reveal here doesn't turn out like this Battlefront 2015 multiplayer video was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXU5k4U8x20&t=194s

Scripted gameplay is obviously expected but that unless i'm remembering wrong, doesn't this show a vehicle count that isn't really possible on that map? It has large-scale figher battles and multiple other vehicles on Hoth at once which gives the wrong impression of the size of the battle. 5 TIE fighters (at once), 3 X-wings, 3 Airspeeders, 2 AT-STs and 3 speederbikes in a 5 minute video, many of which are at the same time or at least within a very short timeframe. That's nearly half the player count per side in vehicles. Could that even happen? I don't know if i'm just remembering it wrong or if that shows more than you can actually have.

Well, technically, it was in the stable and close orbit above the forest moon of Endor, not the Endor itself.

No, its not possible to recreate that video in the game. Heck, you can't destroy the ion cannon either.

I thought you could.

It's based a specific set of progress of players on either side

IIRC you can also fire the cannon, but you have to destroy one of the walkers before it reaches the 3rd set of Mcoms

The ion cannon will destroy the destroyers above you.

On hoth at the most you can have 2 Walkers, 2 AT ST, 3 of each ship on either side. No speeders though.

Are we sure the "main story" is contained to only one era?

While the campaign will most likely jump from area to area [the "SP part of the teaser" showed several environments before ~"play the MP" title appeared], I would vaaaaastly prefer that the campaign follows a single protagonist.

Jumping to random soldiers in random battlefields will most likely prevent me to get attached to them.

i hope its not them jumping around to different characters like BF1 where its just a glorified game tutorial (i.e. oh hey you're a tie fighter pilot...learn to fly ships!)

But hopefully unlike the BF1 campaign, it should actually play like the actual game.

Is this the game Amy Hennig is involved in? I so then this is probably my new most anticipated game.

No, she is making the third person action/adventure game at Visceral Games. Stig Asmussen is also making an action Star Wars game at Respawn.

I love Pokken!
The Battlefront 2 site is available now. Doesn't really show anything significant, no idea what the logo is of: https://www.ea.com/games/starwars/battlefront/battlefront-2

However, at the bottom it says "Try out one of the oldest tricks in the book. Sign up for the STAR WARS Newsletter and receive the exclusive in-game "Not the Droids" emote." so unfortunately it looks like those stupid emotes are back.

"Full Length Trailer Coming April 15"

Confirmation of a long trailer on saturday then.

Yeah, from what they've said this isn't the full trailer that we've seen. Supposedly there's also going to be gameplay shown so it seems we'll probably be getting a few things.

I can't figure out if them wording it like that hints this video was 'leaked' on purpose or not, though.

Those fuckin' emotes.

If I hear that laugh one more time...

As it said all eras I want some Republic vs CIS action. I want to play as one of those Droidekas again.

I might not be fond of the Prequel movies but I really love the designs of the Clone Troopers and Republic ships.

If we get three heroes/villains per era I'm wondering who the third villain for sequels will be.

Republic:
Yoda
Obi-Wan
Anakin/Ashoka

Separatists:
Darth Maul
General Grievous
Count Dooku

Rebellion:
Luke
Han
Leia

Empire:
Vader
Palpatine
Boba Fett

Resistance:
Rey
Finn
Poe

First Order:
Kylo Ren
Captain Plasma
???

I guess they could use Hux but they'd have to invent a moveset for him out of thin air.

No Mace Windu? Gotta have him in there.

There are Clone Wars and Republic ships visible in the background of the Title screen part of the trailer. For some reason it also has what appears to be the CIS landing craft there, which is interesting.

As long as it plays more like battefield1 and less like battlefront1, ill be ok. If its like Battlefront1, it will get a big fat pass from me.

Im ok with the prequels too, some of those battles look like theyd be fun to play. Just hoping none of them involve me playing as Padme in the senate.

Battlefield 1 plays terribly compared to Battlefront 1. Far too spastic and just your standard FPS gameplay. Battlefront was different.

Battlefield1 is fantastic. Youre insane if you think what Dice did with battlefront was better. Gameplay was garbage.

What, you don't like the sound of 10 stormtroopers doing the tusken raider yell?

Battlefield 1 plays just like a reskinned Battlefield 4. Battlefront, with its no ADS, minimal recoil, no prone, no movement penalty for accuracy, and third person perspective plays much better.

Battlefront felt so mindless to me. Maps are all too small and just filled with choke points. I hope they make it a bit more like battlefield, honestly.

youre allowed to your opinion, no matter how wrong.
So are you.

Gunplay is distinct from maps, but both combined to factor into gameplay. While I feel the gunplay was superb in Battlefront, you are right, many of the maps were too narrow.

I had more fun with this trailer than with Battlefront. I hope we will have 2 campaigns, like in prior Star Wars games. Super excited now to see the trailer.

Me too. I put 25-30 hours into Battlefront. Half that was after I'd hit the 'depth' wall and was hoping that the game would re-click. I really wanted to like that game.

By contrast, picked up BF1 on a whim after not playing a BF game since Vietnam - friend said he'd buy it too - and have 80-90 hours and have enjoyed it immensely. Love that game.
