Nitpicks aside, I think we can all agree the music is spot on. Really blown away by how good the Vangelis callbacks sound. Definitely picking this soundtrack up when it drops.

It's trailer music. It's not from the film's score.
Well you might like the actual film's score, though.

Director's Cut or Final Cut. Final Cut, imo.Real talk--I've never watched Blade Runner....

Yeah i might. We'll see what they wind up doing. I feel like It would be a shame for them to nail the sound so well and not build the score around that. Just wouldn't make sense to me.

It doesn't really matter.
Final Cut is basically the Director's Cut (which wasn't a Director's Cut) which was basically the Workprint. Each of those versions had a little bit of extra spit-polish applied to it

The rooftop shot you posted is very stiff. Wouldn't say sterile, but everything lines up too perfectly. It's a cg green screened set. Because that's just how things are done now.
Yeah this post. I'm a Directors Cut man for life but that's the one I saw first and watched over and over. Love the work print too. Final Cut would probably be my fav if not for the changes in color grading from the DC but that's obviously a super dorky nitpick.
is it because batista said so?This movie will be better than Blade Runner. Please prepare.

I assume it's a super hard thing to get past your own nostalgia. Blade Runner looks and feels fantastic and that will always stay that way, but this movie is going to be better. I have a very, very good feeling about my prediciton.Maybe for people who already don't like Blade Runner. It'll take a lot for us fanboys to get on board.

The original is a visual masterpiece and has a lot of great themes to it, but the story isn't really anything super special. It's more a basic vehicle to allow Ridley to go full HAM with his imagery. And from the reports in the film industry, this film has a more nutty/'weird' plot going on that could end up being a superior narrative than the original at the very least, if done right. Plus, despite all the complaints in this thread, it's not like BR2049 is a cheap looking film at all. In fact, the shots in the trailer all seem to point to this film being one of the best looking films to come out in recent years.
That said, I have no doubt in my mind that even if it is better than the original, most folks here and elsewhere on the Internet won't realize it or admit it for at least a decade or so. Which is understandable, seeing as the original Blade Runner had an insurmountable influence on the sci-fi genre and is a top notch example of filmmaking.
It's not so much the story as how it's told. Any plotline can be boiled down to being a) basic or b) simple. There's story then there's narrative progression. While the original seems to be a little slow for some I found it engrossing. Blade Runner's visuals are indeed amazing, but it wasn't all visuals.
Man, better is and always will be subjective. And I hate those guys who always have to bring up "subjective" as a defense. I find that it's hard to gauge a movie's quality at release, so it's less about realization or admittance and more so about how it stacks up away from hype, blind nostalgia hate, etc.
In my fucking veins.
This will shit all over GiTS. I can't wait.
I don't disagree with your points at all. I'm just saying that the plot, regardless of how well it was executed, wasn't really the main focus of the original film.
I'm just noting that that seems to be a very different case with BR2049 and all of this talk of some sort of mystery or key element to the whole story that's being talked about. And like you said, it all comes down to execution. It could totally end up being that Villeneuve messes up and the new film's plot doesn't deliver like the original film did.
That's also true!
I guess for me, I'm more open to make a bold statement like saying that BR2049 might end up being a better film than the original BR because despite how much I love that film, it's not the "end all, be all" to me. Hell, even though I know BR's probably a stronger feature overall, I personally prefer Alien as far as Ridley's top work goes.
This movie will be better than Blade Runner. Please prepare.
With another director I would not be this confident."This sequel will totally be better than the original from like 30 years ago. They even shoehorned the guy from the old one in there to do some lines."
I mean I guess it's possible. The odds are against you on this bet though.
Looks a bit too much shoot bang for me but trailers can be fooling and I have faith in Villeneuve. Cautiously excited
Based on what critera? This movie will be better than Blade Runner. Please prepare.
