EA doesn't want gamer X to buy their game (let's say FIFA) on Switch rather than PS4, because regardless of the platform, they still get one sale. If they put out their typical AAA content with complete parity to the PS4 and XB1 versions then the best they can hope for is a few people who would be interested in that game who don't already own a PS4 or XB1 (or PC), and apparently they don't think that's a particularly large number, or worth much of an investment.

I mean, a portable FIFA on par with the PS4 version may sell gangbusters, but it would do so partially at the expense of the sales of that PS4 version. So, from a business perspective it makes sense for them to try to carve out a new type of market that doesn't cannibalize the existing markets on other platforms. Regardless of how much it sucks for Nintendo fans.

Anyway that seems off topic but I guess since we're discussing E3 it's something to keep in mind in terms of what type of third party support we might expect at E3.

Another idea EA could explore is having just one version of Fifa on Switch. Fifa Switch, and charge subsequent annual fee for Gameplay patches, roster updates, uniforms, added teams, and the ability to cross save with PS4/Xbone.

First year all those things are free, then year 2, 3, 4 are all subsequent $15 to $20 payments. I think it would be an interesting experiment for developers and consumers.

Switch is the perfect console to perform that experiment on.
