Pokemon Ultra Moon and Ultra Sun for Nintendo 3DS

The irony in that is by doing it this way they're hurting the sales potential of the Switch this holiday. What parents are gonna pick up a Switch for their kids on Black Friday when a brand new Pokémon game is out for a cheaper N2DS XL?

Nintendo has to realize that with their announcement today they are forcing the Switch and 3DS to compete with each other this holiday.

I think the Switch will sell great this fall regardless of Pokemon being on it. Nintendo will sell as many Switch's as they can make.

For every great idea Nintendo has, they counter it tons of poor decisions. I don't get how they are still so out of touch.

Where are the details of UltraSun and UltraMoon? Who was honestly asking for a Pokken port? And why dedicate an entire direct to this when both these titles could have been announced in a press release?

I'm upset the Switch rumor seems busted (thanks Eurogamer, now I know not to trust any body who says they got Pokemon rumors), but uhh fuck yeah more Pokemon. Will probably get Ultra Moon since I got Sun the first time around.

What's the point of doing a hybrid system if you're not launching your biggest handheld IP on it as soon as possible?

This is pretty typical of the Pokémon series. I mean, they were still putting out Pokémon games on the DS after the 3DS launched.

They bet their credibility on Pokémon Stars Switch exclusive for 2017.

Technically, this does nothing to change the likelihood of something like a Pokémon Stars coming to the Switch... though this probably means that such a game would be a winter 2018 game.

To everyone saying I can't believe people expected a switch Pokémon stars version...

Hd assets, upscaling. We've seen it with our own eyes. This is why we expected it. It's not hard to comprehend. Switch is a mobile console. It makes sense. It's not wild speculation.

Feel so good. While this is a classic move by Game Freak, most people just didn't see it coming because of "leaks". It's not completely wild speculatiob, but they would never split the user base within the same Pokemon generation.

That said, of course I can't wait too for a complete HD Pokemon rpg for Switch.

Well, time to go playing Mother 3 on Wii U Virtual Console guys.

Nintendo will have Mario for this holiday, and Mario Kart bundles sell well (this even includes 2 controllers).

Laziest ? Care to share want about it seems lazy ?
New Pokemon, New locations, new forms don't seem lazy to me.
Seems disappointing. B2W2 were sequels, these just seem like updates. Though, I guess I should wait for more information to come out. It's looking like a skip from me for now.

Does the switch need this game right now? it's selling pretty well.

Also, given the population/number of users will it sell more on the Switch or on the 3DS/2DS?

I think that kills off the notion entirely that Nintendo sees the Switch as a 3DS successor. We'll have a new handheld in a couple of years and the next Pokemon will be on that. The Switch is their Wii U successor, not a hybrid.
Yup, this. Still waiting on that DS successor since they indicated they don't see the 3DS as one by releasing BW2 in 2012.

I don't know what people were thinking if you believed that Stars was coming out this year....

I mean Nintendo has put out Zelda, Mario, ARMS, Splatoon, Mario Kart and supposedly Xenoblade this year on there release schedule.

Why on Earth would they also release a Pokemon game? You think they want that competing with Mario this fall? Not even a little bit.

They gotta save some shit for next year haha.

Why does Nintendo try so hard to hamstring their consoles :

Aside from the hype train crashing and burning...

I've been wanted to replay Moon since I thought it was fun. So, I'm hoping there are significant differences. I don't see why Nintendo would re-release Sun and Moon now.

Not too surprised that's it's only on 3DS but that's still lame, guess I'll just wait for the next main PKMN game since I don't have a 3DS anymore

So glad that the Eurogamer rumour ended up being not true as it was getting so annoying seeing folk acting like it was the gospel truth.

I always believed that Star would remain on the 3DS when I saw the Super 2DS XL.

Oh one more thing, SUCK IT ZYGARDE, along with the rest of gen 6.

Maybe a Stars game is also coming to Switch.... Or are we giving up?

This is star.

They only did this because TPC puts in bare minimum effort on the iterations and they literally don't have to make any new assets as long as it's on the 3DS.

No, they are probably already hard at work on a Switch Pokémon game, but want to start a new Generation on the console rather than starting towards the end.

What the heck are they though exactly? DLC? Updated games? Entirely new titles? Stream didn't show much.

It's a new game.

Um...why is this so shocking? This isn't CALLED Pokemon Stars and it implies that it's more of a slightly 'expanded' version of Sun/Moon then anything else. And the Switch IS getting a Pokemon game in the form of Pokken Deluxe.

I'm sure the Switch will get a RPG Pokemon at some point but we didn't see Pokemon jump to the DS the moment that came out, same with Black & White 2 releasing on the DS when the 3DS was out and about.

Game Freak is weird sometimes, so we should know this by now.

This is pretty much "Pokémon Star" as we saw Necrozma being merged with the Sun and Moon box mascot.

Gen 7 is coming to a close and will go down in history as the most shortest gen, assuming that we don't get the Sinnoh remake next year.

While I would've preferred cross-platform, at least this way the Switch will have at least one guaranteed system seller in the future. Mainline Zelda, Mario, and Pokémon in year 1 could be considered overkill, and leaves the question of what could possibly come next to keep Switch hype going. Personally, I'm bothered more by the names. Ultra Moon and Ultra Sun? Really? What is this, Street Fighter?

Since this seems like Black 2/White 2 all over again, I just hope we don't end up with another X/Y situation the Switch, because that Gen was a major letdown in my opinion.

That's not better than keep the desire of the product at really high leavers going into 2018. You have to admit that Pokémon US/UM on Switch this fall would make the system a much much more desirable product. Without them it's lineup feels lacking in a big way.

Nintendo should be making the Switch as desirable as possible despite hardware shortages. They're hurting themselves and we all know it. There's no excuse to not have these games on Switch.

Uhhh I can't find a Switch, if it frees consoles so I can get one this holiday, yay.

I guess so. I was just thinking about how many plot threads in S/M seemed to be setting themselves up for a sequel so I was hoping for more of a continuation (a la B2/W2) rather than the alternate approach.

Considering how much they were playing on the alternate dimensions in Sun/Moon's postgame, I wouldn't be surprised if we go back to the original Alola at some point, either in the story or the endgame.

Alternatively, Necrozoma's prismatic something or other is causing the world to distort and we need to fix that.
