Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

Halo, Forza, gears of war

lol

it's fucking hilarious to me
it's a statement about the console itself which means quite little when you consider it's only going to be that way for a brief period of time. I mean, right now PS4 Pro is the most powerful but did they try to use a tagline like this? It's so silly. That they made shirts for it is all the more better. The idea that someone doubled down on this tagline is amazing.

Erm, Sony have been marketing the PS4 as the most powerful console ever. They've mentioned it in lots of their advertising in the U.K.

To all the people saying MS is doomed and the Scorpio is dead in the water at $499, remember that the Scorpio is not intended to replace the Xbox One as MS's main console.

It's meant to be a premium product, something MS has said openly.

If MS drops it at $399 I will be quite surprised, as it would likely mean MS taking a loss on each unit. You don't take losses on 'premium' products, as they are more price insensitive. You take losses on mainstay products that you want to build a market share for against competition.

I kind of see the Scorpio in the Steam Machine category rather than console category. It's basically a cheap PC box that will perform as a mid-quality PC. I don't really see it as competition for the PS4 Pro. For me, the main competition is between PS4 and Xbox One, with the Pro and Scorpio being kind of like extensions of that. I don't see a lot of people switching from a potential PS4 Pro purchase to a potential Scorpio purchase based purely on the characteristics of those two machines.

That's insane to me.

The Xbox One is so far behind the PS4 at this point. The Scorpio could be a potential game changer at $399. It doesn't matter what new games and stuff they announce at their press conference, they will still be in 2nd place even with that stuff. The Scorpio is the one thing that could potentially change the tide of the console generation. If they come out and market it at a "premium" console at $499, then I don't see that appealing to anyone.

if it is indeed 499$
i wouldnt be surprised if Microsoft secured one of the biggest IP's as PC/Scorpio/X1 exclusive.Like not GTA big but still big IP.

Could be Splinter Cell,Mafia, exclusive Japan IP like some final fantasy spin-off,Dead Space reboot maybe,Mass Effect Trilogy remake maybe.

also fully expect Minecraft 2 teaser

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Psst...
What if I told you Microsoft wanted to release the bad news before their conference in order to get it out of the way just like they did with the "24 hour online requirement" before E3 2013?

Damn, then do the policy reversal again, but this time price reversal.

I'm team $499 now. $450 at the minimum.

Scorpio has a 1080ti in it?

I still think the price will end up at $399. Microsoft has been hyping the Scorpio like it's the flagship for a little while now so I don't think it would drop at a price that would ensure the average consumer would leave it alone. I'm probably wrong though

I honestly do think we'll get 4k 60fps standards on Xbox Scorpio.

MS isn't screwing around. Sony got them with the PS4 and Pro over the Xbox One.

Not this time. Not anymore. We shall witness it.

Like this rumor? LOL

"I can now say with confidence Project Scorpio is $499. Unless something changes today, that is what will be announced."
Yeah. That's a rumor, even if it's done with confidence.

You know why? Because it hasn't been officially confirmed.

Oh I have no doubt that is a perfectly reasonable explanation also....

If it is 499 then I think they are going to need a number of exclusive games to show off, because 4k games of 3rd party games won't cut it.

Ironically, I think the lack of games to show off a 4K console is a reason why it makes no sense to lose money on each Scorpio sale. The value conscious consumer would still have no reason to buy Scorpio at $399. They'd ask "Why am I spending $150 more for little to no benefit?" The only people who'd buy Scorpio would be the ones who don't care about price and just want the best. However those people don't care about spending $100 more, and Microsoft would be losing money for no reason to sell Scorpio at a loss.

oh really? I'm not in the UK anymore so haven't seen. Either way stuff like that remains funny to me
when the game library doesn't match.. so the power goes to waste

Seriously, people complaining about the shirt? It's a tshirt with Microsoft boasting. It's not a huge deal, it's hardly corny. I don't get the hate.

And the shirt makes them a cult? Damn, I'll make sure to think that next time I'm at a concert and everyone is wearing a tshirt of the band...

It is also the fan fest, which are attended by Xbox fans, of course they are going to wear shirts like that given to them and cheer at most things because you know they are Xbox fans. Not unlike the PS4 Experience where it was you know PS4 fans and them cheering at almost anything. These are the die hard fans folks. Of course they are going to be cheering and wear a shirt like that.

Team $399. Honestly, I feel like this is a way to blow people away when they announce the price.

I agree... this is marketing we are talking about here.. get people pissed at the 499 price and then "WOW 399? omg! instabuy. it was going to be 499! I thought"
