2017 Microsoft E3 Conference [Over]

What shirt should Phil Spencer wear today?

Target render? Thought they said was in game footage from XBX during the conference.. maybe I need to go back and listen to it again.

How many times have we seen "actual in-game footage" as a moniker before a "gameplay" trailer premieres at an E3?

The receipts aren't in until the actual game is in our hands.

I've decided to take another look at the announcements and the only thing I didn't really like is that they didn't show any new AAA IP.

I have quite a few Day 1 games and a number of "Day on Sale for $20 and Lower"

Day 1
State of Decay 2 - the first is so awesome, I'd buy the second sight unseen.
Crackdown 3 - just a fun game.
Cuphead
Ori
Battle Underground

Day whenever
Metro
Tacoma

I guess that's not bad. But seriously, they need some god damn new AAA games.

And another thing: if you say "we are investing more in first party" you should probably go about announcing some new major first party games. Just a thought.

Hell, all Phil has to do is simply announce the new studios they have created or purchased. If the games aren't ready, at least introduce these new First Party Exclusive development teams to Xbox Fans and the Xbox Family.

For me personally a very disappointing conference. True 4K and specs very nice, but there aren't enough games that make me purchase the console. So...I guess this will be the first MS console that I will not buy on launchday which feels strange.

It has been reported that Anthem was running on XBX hardware. The above Forbes article mentions this in fact

Questionimg that games will run and look amazing on this machine is ridiculous at this point. machine is a beast.. it was the lack of first party and the lackluster showing and the price

I'm still buying it at $500 cause those graphics.. Fuck

I agree with everyone that said that they were disappointed that MS didn't show any new AAA exclusives, but part of me thinks they are saving those for the Gamescom. A lot of good games showed though and the Xbox One X looks fantastic. We'll see though.

If that exact same "gameplay" was shown at the Sony conference tomorrow, I would have said exactly the same things - that it's going to be downgraded, that it looks decent, but it doesn't interest me in any shape form or fashion. It looks like the 3 games and the movie Avatar I mentioned previously all mashed together - a concoction that I am just not interested in.

Yes, the target render gameplay does indeed look nice.

You're cool.

Good one.

It wasn't a target render BTW.

Being there in person absolutely had an effect on my impressions but I really liked it. The shown games like Ori and the OG BC support were huge wins in my book.

First tragedy, then farce.
I think MS are leaning a bit too heavily on 'best version' of games stuff. I mean, it's going to move me over for sure because I'm a guy with a way too nice TV and sound system and I spend money on dumb purchases...

But the price AND lack of exclusive IP isn't gonna help them this fall.

This looks familiar

I thought the conference was good, OG Xbox BC is huge for me, the only negative there being that only one game was announced. Makes it seem like it's going to be very limited. I will be very happy if they are able to get support for my favorite Xbox games, hopefully they put up a site so that we can vote for games like they did with Xbox 360 BC.

Pretty impressive that they made Xbox One X the smallest Xbox yet, I am kind of annoyed at the lack of a Kinect port though since I think you have to get a power adapter to get it to work on newer Xbox One consoles...

Massive disappointment on an epic scale. Only forza 7 looked good and could get that on pc. For the first time I won't be getting a microsoft console on launch.

Why would they puts Europe over America when the latter is their stronghold?

Called MS's lack of FP on E3 long ago. This is a transition year for them. If they have nothing next year, then you can be worried.

While I don't think they held anything back for gamescom, I do expect them to have a conference to show offer more Crackdown and state of decay.

If crackdowm is going to hit in November, you have to have a multiplayer blowout somewhere

That is yet again more hyperbole. We've read/heard the same things countless times from news outlets where their articles "confirm" it was running on "actual" hardware - but when the game arrived in our hands, it was a downgrade in some form or another - either minor or significantly.

If it actually looks like it did today at release, I'm still not going to play it; but at least I'll give it the credit that it actually looked like it's initial reveal at launch.

It wasn't a target render BTW.

Again, until the game is in our hands, it's always a target render if it's stupefyingly amazing looking.

Here's my question guys, will Xbox One X gamers have to suffer from parity issues in multiplayer titles? All that damned power.....

Not a bad perspective. aaa games take a long time to make, and MS lost two from its roster. That gap was felt yesterday. Hopefully Ms has some real exclusive 1/2party games cooking ready to reveal next year.

Where was the crackdown 3 destruction though? ☹

You do know the specs of the machine right haha... thing is gonna rule games on consoles regardless of how shitty this conference was

So it doesn't look that good in your opinion but it looks too good to be real gameplay...

Yeah, i said that mainly to make people open their eyes to the fact that "Exclusive" is something that doesn't exists anymore for MS. This conference was the ultimate proof of that.

Get what you're saying, but all of the games that are coming out exclusively for the consoles and PC are still Microsoft exclusives...even though it's slim pickins for quality in that area anyway.

Has there even been a Windows 10 version of any of their current gen games that wasn't worse than the console version though? I mean, that's an offensive way to get people to want the console version if they really must play whatever's being offered.

That's only if developers and publishers put up enough money for the extra development time required to fully take advantage of those specs over and above the vanilla PS4 and Xbone - of which is only the parity between a PS4 and a PS4 Pro.

To be honest, after this press conference I doubt that those developers/publishers excitement will be anything but waning.

They go where the hype and money is, they don't wade into a pool of disappointment.

That was a good conference.

Fucking LOL at the Super Lucky Tail game or whatever. Did anyone else get trolled so hard thinking it was a Conker game?

Yikes at that One X price. Can't believe its real

How though? They've been showing the same games for years now and have also known a console relaunch is due for years as well

It either smacks of not caring enough to do anything about it or some serious mismanagement

Wasn't this supposed to be the year where we would be finally seeing Phil Spencer's first-party efforts?

I feel like i've been reading this for two years straight now.

They (Xbox division) has been in transition since Mattrick left. Lack of FP has been a worry for a few years and it's apparent to everyone now, including current Xbox One owners. It is a worrying situation as FP games take dev time, it's not like they can magically announce and release 3-4 unannounced FP exclusives next year.

I didn't expect much from this conference, I assume they realized about they dire situation regarding first party titles in the early 2016 and probably started pitching project there which weren't ready to show this year and probably will appear next year. Now the question is, hope ate they going to survive a year with such a negative audience until next year when only half of this year was already terrible for them?

Also, closing the conference with a PS4 games sooo lame.

Anthem and Metro looked like vertical slices to me. The type of early demos Ubisoft got in trouble for with FarCry 3 and Watchdogs.

Concerning the best graphics: if a game isn't xboxonex enhanced it will still look worse than the base PS4 version. So this basically depends on the market share and I'm not too optimistic about that after this conference.

I feel that Microsoft did the conference correctly. Scorpio as the opener and closer, with nothing but games in the middle. A literal Scorpio sandwich. If you're gonna copy a conference format, Sony's is a pretty good one to copy. Show off a bunch of games with minimal commentary. They did a good job on this front. The $499 price tag doesn't offend me either. You pay for what you get here. OG Xbox BC was also a very welcome addition.

That said, I was expecting meat in this Scorpio sandwich, but I got tofu instead. The games shown were mostly already known, so there wasn't any real "wow" factor here. I understand people really like the fact that Microsoft doesn't generally show off games that are 2-3 years out like Sony, but without that I can't look forward to anything either.

Honestly, this was the worst MS press conference in a long time. Pacing all over the place, started well enough hyping the new version of the Xbox One, but for an hour and half I kept looking for a justification to splurge for another iteration of the system and there wasn't a single one software wise. It'll be nice to have better multiplats but that's also yet to be seen as developers will still see most of their sales come from the PS4 so there is little reason to focus on Xbox One X.

It also seems to be DOA, the price (specially anywhere outside the US), the lack of any true triple AAA exclusive has basically meant that the thing has no hype at all. Who is this thing marketed to? Too expensive for the casual gamer, not enough exclusives for the hardcore gamer. People who are diehard Xbox fans?

I cannot believe the hubris the Xbox team must have to create the Xbox One X, sell it for 499 USD, and hardly show anything new for it. Yeah, Forza, but that is like saying Nintendo releasing a new Mario game is a surprise.

If you say so, but it's not competing with the Xbox One. It's competing with the PS4 Pro in terms of harware. Aside from BC (which barely anyone uses), it's not a $100 jump in "what you get" for a system released a year later.

I gotta say. Quantity over Quality. It had quality titles, but it was drowning in a sea of indies, and medium sized artsy games. There is a time and place, but not in a 2 hour conference that had to be "extended". Also, it didn't have that punch. The thing that you point to in a conference and say "look at that!". And man, ending your conference on a third party multiplat is not a good look. Sorry, no way to sugar coat that. Thats supposed to be your rally cry to your community. To say "this is why you have xbox". I dunno, I didn't really see that there. It sucked when Sony did it with Destiny, and it sucks here.

And the 1x or whatever. Yeah, reality kinda hit me. It is, at the end of the day, just a midgen refresh like the pro. Thats it. Nothing special about it, except its a hundred bucks more. I thought maybe it was a hybrid PC box or something. But nope.

Like, maybe you could play PC games on the scorpio somehow. Some gimmick. It really was just "true 4k" all along. Thought maybe they were trying to psyche Sony out or something, lol.

Makes me think of the beginning of the generation where a lot of people went from Xbox to PS because of this very reason.... Better performing 3rd party titles.

Post any overused meme you like, but this fact remains - remember the E3 2005 "actual gameplay footage" of Killzone 2 on PS3 footage?

https://youtu.be/b-4HNmuEAKg

There were many media outlets claiming that it wasn't false footage and that it was "actual gameplay footage captured from the hardware".

It was actually just a target render and as we all know, the game fell a little bit short of that visual splendor.

All I'm saying is, “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”

Not correct, All games even if not enhanced get 16x AF applied, fps will become rock solid, resolution will remain same except for games with dynamic res which will go to the top peg all the time, all games will load much faster..

Wait... Wasn't the Kz2 debacle really what drove developers to start labelling their stuff as "in engine"? The criticism was that KZ2 was a target render, not in engine. This is different than, being shown running in engine on existing hardware. I guess time will tell.
