Does anyone know why they're not telling us which platform it will be released?

The mystery continues...

It's obvious Michel had many plans for Beyond Good and Evil from the original game. Making a direct sequel to a game that was given away as a freebie at supermarkets would have been little more than a vanity project. Michel instead decided to bank hard on what really stood out in the original, the personalities, the social messaging, and the world building. Michel did what this franchise really reserves, a second chance for the world to discover.

At first I was disappointed but once it sank in I can get behind a prequel.

The art style in the CGI trailer was just phenomenal. An easy contender for game of show despite the lack of gameplay.

I still think we'll see nods to the first game's story. We may see the emergence of the
DomZ
. I personally even think it will hint at the Shauni storyline. One of the characters (one with green eyes) could turn out to be
a reincarnation/vessel of her as Jade was
in BG&E.

Either way it's damn exciting.

Nice trailer and themes, love the feel with the Indian and Chinese undertones mixed in (music, environment).

So this will be on PS4 and XboxOne right?

Absolutely. This series has a real chance to break out (a bit odd they're calling it "2" though. A subtitle may be more appropriate) given its new direction.

They explained what the game was going to be. The key points are in the actual OP

  • Story takes place before the birth of Jade.
  • Play the adventure by yourself or with friends in a vast and seamless online playground.
  • Explore mysterious cities by yourself or with friends.
  • Helm massive star fairing vessels.
  • Travel across space at the speed of light.

Clearly, not what some people would want from a sequel to what was ostensively a 3D puzzle platformer, with a beloved heroine.

The notion that creators are above criticism is for the birds. If it's ok to shit on Lucas, it's ok to shit on Ancel.

Sorry you're not getting catered to specifically. Also never said creators are above criticism. But that's cool if you want to be upset.

Yeah, Ubi have left Ancel to do what he wants for his past couple games, so I'm confident that it's the game he wants to make

The whole traveling across the galaxy and visiting cities on different planets was actually his original pitch for Beyond Good and Evil (though probably without the whole online aspect):
Yes, we’ve been working on it for a long time, but we’ve had some technical issues. It’s a complex game. The first Beyond Good & Evil, when I sent the technical document to Sony, it was the time of the Emotion Engine on the PlayStation 2. We had the feeling that we could do whatever we wanted. We sent them the document, it was about planets, going from planet to planet, towns to towns and all these things. But in the end, what we were really about to do was far less than what we wanted.

And of course, the scope of Beyond Good & Evil is large – you’ve got the city, the ocean, the moon and the space ship. But the space ship was designed to go from planet to planet, and it was frustrating to have those limitations. And my thing is that we really want to make the game that was previously imagined, with all this feeling of traveling. Mass Effect did a good job on that side, and I think that there are a lot of things to do to continue in that direction, with storytelling and a massive world.
this was from an interview in 2011 about Rayman Origins and the original incarnation of BGE2 shown at the ubidays event way back when

the world of BG&E has always been its most interesting facet, moreso than its direct plot or characters. Being able to openly explore be with friends or alone sounds very exciting.

I'm sorry but all the cursing just screamed "extreme!!" To me. I understand that young adult males are the main demographic, but we aren't all assholes.

She's in the trailer? Is there some other news somewhere on this?

It's a prequel pre-Jade.

Did the previous game have cursing? I played it back when it came out but I can't remember. In my memory it was a family friendly game. I don't have a problem with cursing in game, but in this trailer, I dont know, it seemed like it tried too hard to be 'edgy'.

The concept looks really good though, hopefully the end product won't be as cringy as the trailer was for me.

Not sure what people's issue is with the swearing. Its clearly inspired by British urban culture. It would be strange if the football hooligan inspired monkey wasn't swearing.

It definitely did not, the original game was definitely more of a Nintendo/Disney/Pixar sort of demographic rather than what it was now, I guess ancel decides the users 'grew up' unfortunately.

how the hell is this even grimdark? The trailer has the exact same tone as BGE1 - bright saturated colors with humorous, but dramatic characters, who later are juxtaposed with darker and more blue color settings referencing astronomy, space, and the universe.

Knew what it was as soon as the logo showed up and we saw that awesome character design but then the clarification really bummed me out

Way too broad a scope considering how long in development hell this game already was. And it's apparently emphasizing online

I feel like this will come out undercooked or pivot direction again

Trailer was dope tho. Love how it's gone full on r rated Gorillaz cartoon on us

I don't mind it being a prequel though if the world is this stylized

Lucas gets criticized because the prequels are shit movies.
Lucas gets criticized because the special editions are THE ONLY available ways to watch OG Star Wars.

We don't know if this game will be bad.
You can play the unadulterated HD edition of BGE right now, without added "fucks" or gritty art style.

Fans not getting their desired fan service isn't the same thing.

But they said bad words.

I'm stoked that this is actually a thing!

I just hope they don't do something daft and make it Switch exclusive.

Also, I'm a little bummed that everything Ubisoft makes has to be a GaaS, shared-world, MP open world game.

My exact reaction during the conference was:

BG&E2? :O, Why are they swearing?, no seriously why the hell are they swearing so much?, This can't be BG&E2, Is that Jade?, It doesn't sound like her, Where is Pey'j?, Is this a reboot?, "BG&E2 logo shows" What the fuck was that!!!

- The original had a cartoon-like art style so the animal hybrids looked good, the new art style is almost too realistic that it's gross
- Why in the hell are they swearing all the time!
- Why is this called BG&E2 when it's a prequel!
- Why is it online!
- The original ended on a cliff hanger so why the fuck is this a prequel?
- It was nice to hear Christophe Héral's music again but not like this

I'm just so fucking angry and depressed right now, I've been waiting 14 years to see what happens after that cliff hanger... just... Fuck, I need to go meditate or something.

I'm a bit confused. Is this CG trailer and announcement some sort of publisher kickstarter?

Seems like they are shooting for tons of personality in their characters in this world but what is the game even? Is this Mass Effect Andromeda but with good characters and writing? Is it third person? Is it a hero game? What are the online aspects that Im hearing of?

They stood up there and rereveal this game after the last time so many years ago but are they any further along than the last time we got a concept trailer?

This world has so much potential from that trailer alone. I love that it's an evolution of his prior game. But dude has taken so damn long already. With a small team. Why are they biting far more than they can chew with this one.

Lol at people being mad at the swearing tho

As i said in previous pages, this is more FrancoBelgian comic and less Disney comic like the first one was.

Don't think this will come to Switch at all after seeing that CG trailer. That probably cost more than Nintendo would spend on the entire budget of the game if they bankrolled it lol.
