Destiny 2's PS4 Exclusive Content will Arrive on PC and Xbox One in 2018

Not to jump off track, but I really hope this is the case, I have my doubts though. The problem is that Destiny is finally learning the loot game, and that's a terribly difficult yet important thing to implement in this new arpg genre. I imagine loot wise Anthem won't be nearly as varied as a game like Destiny, although I hope I'm wrong.

They also probably won't have PvP which is a huge draw in Destiny for a lot of people including myself. Destiny is one of the first games to implement satisfying PvP combat with a loot-system co-mingling with the campaign. The balance was often fucked the first go round, but it would be quite a feat for them to get it too much closer (except the supers, get rid of the 1hk supers in PvP if you want a competitive PvP multiplayer, Bungie).

Not sure why you're quoting something I never said o_O

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
Was the Division discounted due to delayed DLC? Was Fifa discounted due to exclusive Xbox Content? Was COD discounted all last gen due to delayed DLC? No?

Fifa is the only one that's applicable. Division and CoD had exclusive content for one month. That's nothing to Destiny's exclusive content for one to two years. Specifically, content that will be worthless by the time it's available on the other platforms too. You know how irritating it was to see content supposed to come to Xbox delayed even more because the deal was basically that it was exclusive until Destiny 2 and when Destiny 2 got delayed, so did the content coming to Xbox that PS4 players had access to for a year already? Sony basically paid for permanent exclusivity with false messaging. See the difference?

It's not the same thing because Destiny 2 costs $60 on all three platforms but one platform gets more content for the same price. For a year, anyway.

I will say that Xbox did this shit all the time ALL LAST GEN but now Sony is the asshole?

Yeah this gets me. As a preface: this practice is pretty crappy for consumers.
HOWEVER, I seem to recall the most reliable response to complaints about this last year was "buy a 360 if you have a problem with it." Now that Xbox is not the market leader and is no longer getting it, it seems that Sony beating them at their own game makes Sony the monsters. And before "but good guy Phil said..." again remember Division this year, COD up to the first title this gen, Fifa Legends up until this year, Tomb Raider, etc AND all the console launch exclusives or whatever deceiving term they are using at this E3.

Damn, talk about laying the smack down.

If a company wants to front money to get extra content that wasn't going to be in the game to begin with I'm fine with that.
Their money they can do with it what they want, which is what we're talking about here I believe and not content removed because money exchanged hands.

So can I take it then that everyone here is also going to boycott PS4 Spiderman on the same moral grounds?

I mean, Sony have clearly given Insomniac a hell of a lot of money to make a game exclusively for their platform, denying XB and PC players 100% of the content when they could easily have not accepted the money and made a cute little 2D platformer that everyone could enjoy instead?

It's the same thing people! Business is business and it's thanks to this same business that we've got any of these games to play in the first place!

giphy.gif

Difference is I'm not spending $60 on 95% of Spiderman, I'm spending $0.

I actually have a PS4, but I won't be playing Spiderman because it doesn't look very good.

Watch Anthem get 1 year exclusive stuff for MS and the tables turn the other way

Poor PC gets assed out, but they do get to play games at God mode quality and Steam Sales, never bet against Steam Sales

If that happens, then Microsoft and EA deserve all the criticism they can get considering Phil Spencer basically said there won't be exclusive content for Anthem.

PC will probably share any exclusives that xbox gets.

It would still be bullshit though.

I had heard from my Xbox friends that they stopped playing Destiny 1 because of this exclusive stuff but somehow it never occurred to me Bungie would do this with the sequel after establishing a successful franchise that shouldn't need exclusive moneyhats. This has completely nuked any chances of me getting this game and it being on Battle.net and not being all up in my face everytime I launch Steam will make ignoring it even easier.

Damn, I understand the window against Xbox but PC too? PC users are not in the console wars lol. Why punish them?

The content should be on PC day one.

So exactly like TTK's PS4 Exclusive Content coming to Xbox in 2016? aka Never

https://www.polygon.com/2016/8/18/12536688/destiny-rise-of-iron-ps4-exclusive-taken-king-fall-2017

The expansion offers its own PlayStation 4 exclusives; those items won’t be released on Xbox One until "at least Fall 2017." But Rise of Iron also extends the exclusivity window to that point for the PlayStation exclusives in the previous expansion, Destiny: The Taken King.

I mean I could be wrong but I think it's all actually just one deal, isn't it? Like Sony gave them a bunch of money before the series even launched for a multi-game marketing/content deal and bet on their success and now it's paying off for them.

Sony has been doing this strategy since the PS4 launched when they were the leader in console performance.

And if I'm not mistaken didn't MS start this trend last generation? CoD used to have MS exclusivity and now it has flipped to Sony.

Indeed, they made deal before PS4 launched. And it is funny when people talk as if MS hasn't tried this. They did this with the Division just last year. It is just harder to negotiate deals like this when the competition has like double the base.

You realize it came out in 2015 and that timed content was supposed to be delivered in 2016, right? XBO players get the content two years later, just in time for the second game... and thats if they don't delay it again. You don't know for sure.

Did you not read what I quoted? How can you do that?

Here let me post the same quote and bold the part that explains it

Better yet, click on the article and read it. Point is, that it is coming to xbox in the next few months and "never" coming is incorrect.

Why is this just now a thing with people? Didn't PS3 players have to suffer through not only secondary content delays, but actual exclusive game delays as well throughout the majority of last gen?

This.

And MS still does timed exclusive content on games they have marketing for even now too.

It's not the same thing because Destiny 2 costs $60 on all three platforms but one platform gets more content for the same price. For a year, anyway.

My post didn't dispute the "never" part, not sure where you read that in my post. I was simply pointing out how ridiculous it is and that their word cannot be relied upon as they can simply change it at any moment.

While a one year wait is bad, I don't think anything will top exclusive DLC locking the ENDING of a game to a platform until the end of time (Tomb Raider Underworld). One year exclusivity for DLC wouldn't keep me from purchasing the game on the PC by any means.

It's a competing platform

I disagree completely. It's a completely different market. The great majority of PC gamers, which the market has risen tremendously over the last few years, do not console game. It's a small percentage of people who are PC gamers and console gamers and who dedicate a lot of time on both platforms. PC gamers who spend money every year on PC gaming spend little money on the console market.

No need to wait until Anthem.

As others have said, Phil talks through his ass given that games like The Division just got timed exclusive content for Xbox merely a year ago.

But "Good Guy Phil" just hates timed exclusive content.
Nah, he can just barely procure any since the PS4 has double the userbase.

Good thing those PS4 players will be able to play nightfall versions of the exclusive strikes... oh, wait..

Honestly, PS4 players are technically missing out of content because of its exclusivity too.

I think this is something PS4 players who are ok with this somehow forget. You want to know why you won't have nightfall versions for the exclusive strikes or why the exclusive exotics aren't going to show up on Xur-day? It's because they're exclusive.

They are complaining about a practice that was basically invented with GTA Episodes and COD map packs on Xbox 360. It worked back then, it is working now. That is why it keeps happening.

Sony doesn't care about that, they do this to make the PS4 version more appealing, not just compared to the Xbox version, but every version of the game.

PC gets exclusive uncapped framerate. And this in my opinion is way better than the exclusive stuff on ps4.

I think this is a shity practice. But it's no big deal. Exclusive content is not the reason i'm playing destiny 2 on ps4.

1 month exclusivity ≠ 1-to-infinity years of exclusivity.

MS are still hypocrites, but there's no defending Destiny here for their shitty exclusivity model.

And before someone mentions Tomb Raider exclusivity, you didn't pay for the game until all of the content was available, Xbox/PC players are paying the same price for content they'll be waiting indefinitely for, content that is significantly more than a few custom skins or weapons.

Dont think bungie/Sony think what a bunch of people on this forum think.

Both Destiny 2 and PS4 consoles will sell a shit load and thats all they both care about. It sucks for none ps4 players I know.

Hmm I don't think we have any data to support that right now.

I don't know how big these DLC packs are but this feels like devaluing the Xbox versions of Destiny so much that it could actually hurt sales.

But again I'm only judging from the reactions, I don't play Destiny, but the Taken king DLC actually seemed significant and I doubt Xbox players would want to go through that again.

Again, you can cite Division as much as you want, but it was only ever a month of exclusivity. Destiny is on a whole different level. With that said, Spencer has gone on record about Anthem and other games with marketing deals now -- based on what we know, there won't be exclusive content deals with Microsoft from here on. Policies can and do change. Microsoft's policy seems to have changed, so now Sony needs to face heat for this.

Right! It's shortsided to think this is a good thing at all. This is just anti-consumer. That's all there is to it.

I'm glad a small studio like Bungie got the injection of cash they needed from Sony to drag this game to the finish line. It's only right that they pay that back to PlayStation users.

Yeah, it's great that they did. Same goes for Square, we all know how close ROTTR was from the scrap heap.

This sucks no matter who is doing it. It's anti-consumer as fuck.

EDIT: wow, I thought I was in the Phil Spencer Says thread. Guess my post was a bit OT.

Keeping this content off of PC and XB1 may not be limiting them from a significant portion of the game, but just knowing what they're missing will damage their experience. No consumers benefit from this at all.

Not really, it benefits the 60 odd million+ PS4 users out there.
