No, so everybody here doesn't have to view you're aggressive and biased posts.
Seriously, i never stated that i do or don't care nor that i think this is business 101.

What is wrong with you?

Lol my bias post nice narrative you got there...I want sony to allow Cross play with MS and Nintendo...yh if thats Bias fine by me...and you quoted someone explaining Microsoft would do this too its all business so yh you do think it is..

Doesn't make it untrue.

I'd like to ask the OP whether or not they even own a PS4, because it's not clear from the GAF profile. Trying to impose your will on 60 million PS4 owners is rather bold if you're not even part of the PlayStation family.

Mate, the naïvety of some ITT is quite a sight and they've allowed themselves to be played like a fiddle by Microsoft.

The only ones getting played are you guys really.

None of us care about console wars. We just want some crossplay so we can play together.

And that the Minecraft thing you people also keep bringing up ignores Rocket League which doesn't require XBL or PSN or NNID or anything! Rocket League has their own servers!

He's right at one point you know.
If MS where in Sony's shoes, they probably wouldn't be so open about it/ doing this PR stuff.

You're probably not wrong. But they're saying yes to it now, so are Nintendo, and it's our chance to capitalise.

If we can convince Sony to commit to the same then it's much less likely for any of the involved parties to back out in the future.

Biased (unfairly prejudiced for or against someone or something) towards me. Stating that i'm against crossplay (which i'm not by the way).
And yeah, because that is what probably would have been the case.

While Wargroove is not coming to the PS4, it will also have cross platform editor and sharing features between Switch, XB1 and PC as well.

Back on the Wii U and heck the most inferior handheld according to GAF, the 3DS, allowed for crossplay as well with things like Pure Chess being able to play with PC and mobile players.

Sony looks more conservative than Nintendo right now with this.

By all means do :)
I do believe that the crossplay question towards Sony was responded with a mindset that is was not a big of a deal. MS capitalized that.

Something along the lines Scofield is saying, minus the conn stuff ;-)

You all getting conned by Microsoft is astonishing. Microsoft knew Sony doesnt want to work with them, they announced the Minecraft crossplay because their installed base is way smaller than Sony. Stop pretending for one second that you are actively doing what Microsoft wants you to do. They are a buisness and they caught on how the internet is all about witch hunts. They hoped this would happen, make Sony look like the bad guy when in reality, they are desperte for more players and you all are suckers.

True but Nintendo are not really as affected as sony. The switch will not play the normal massive selling MP games that are on ps/xbox. So they can do it with a couple of games and never get involved again really.

And im not against crossplay (and theres a switch in my household!), I just think crossplay is fine for certain games, not all.

It is not just XBL or NNID thats stopping sony, if they allow the cross play then small user bases like Microsoft and Nintendo will get benefits from sony user base for online, and most of the people play a particular console version because of their friends in the network.

Why would anyone buy Playstation version if they can play with their friends using another platform version through cross play ? Sony will lose something by this as a business, and they cant just selectively allow some titles which might force gamers to demand more cross play in every title.

Sony allows cross play with PC because they never consider it is their competition which is why they allowed their indie exclusive titles on it, and also the crowd who plays PC is not same as console, but Microsoft and Nintendo are sony competition as they are consoles.

It doesn't necessarily have to be all. Not everyone will want to do it or be able to afford to do it. But there are devs out there who have the capability and money and want to do it even if they are just few in numbers right now.

Even Harada would like to do crossplay for Tekken 7 since it releases on XB1, PS4 and PC. Some fighting games would be great to have larger player pools because less popular titles don't ever have enough when locked to one platform.

Gotta hand it to Microsoft for this one.
Take a really popular MMO that releases a huge expansion soon an go nah we don't want our players to play this extremely popular game with cross play cuz reasons.

They know Sony will be on the same bullshit they are on just with different games so they push the issue on those games while remaining silent on the ones they don't wanna do it with.

But we will offer it with a game we own an oh yea u gotta sign in with our system to use it.

The only ones who are clean here is the rocket league guys.

Fans of cross play will ignore this entire game being rejected from their platform because now is the time to fight the good fight etc. People will call you a console warrior if u mention the console war like plays the two companies are using on each other lol.

The companies intentions don't matter as long as they get the thing they want. Never mind that you personally don't care/ want it. Some say why post on the thread if you don't agree with me.

Why would anyone buy the PS4 version if they can't play with all their other platform friends? Why would anyone buy the PS4 version of Minecraft when that version is now the shittiest one, the most closed one, that won't get essential updates from now on? The userbase on mobile/tablet alone that has Minecraft alone is already much bigger than PS4 Minecraft's userbase.

Yeah it's a silly argument. Microsoft were dickheads for doing it then. Sony are dickheads for doing it now. It doesn't give Sony a free pass.

Maintaining a diverse and varied lineup of games? There are plenty of reasons to own a PS4 without even thinking if your friends own one too.

Over time though, seeing as games are becoming more of a service, crossplay may become more and more relevant though. Minecraft being among the biggest games as a service type game. Games that revolve around esports where online play and multiplayer is important? Those will likely need crossplay as well.

And you also need only look at E3 and how many games as a service type of game were shown, like Ubisoft's entire showing and all the talks of online and competitive gaming. That dream pirate game I was hoping was like a real single player open world adventure... Well it was esports navel battles (though admittedly still pretty cool).

That's Ms policy who decide to link the update to cross play !

Id love for someone to list 3, no, TWO reasons why crossplay is a bad thing from a CONSUMER viewpoint. Fuck your business perspective, like you're living out your stupid fantasy of being MS/Sonys next CEO. You're a consumer, who gives a damn about the politics of it all. All the companies have made 'sacrifices' for the betterment of the video gaming world before.

Minecraft is relaunching and being moved to a unified code base and a brand new engine and crossplay comes with it. All versions of Minecraft will now be the same with the exception of PS4 because Sony told MS no.

The update is literally about bringing the game to a unified codebase that shares all servers. The whole motherfucking point is having one codebase and you think they should treat PS4 like it's a special version and have to do a unique codebase for the PS4 version? That's quite ridiculous. Sony is denying the update. Sony is screwing over their own costumers.

Positives:
-better matchmaking
-can play with friends regardless of platform.

Negatives:

Everyone should be supporting this whether they personally care or not.

Negatives:
- Shares maybe go down.

Shareholders are the ones that most likely are stopping crossplay.

People survived this long with normal Minecraft, when they bought it, this is the version they expected. If they want Minecraft 2 they can get it on one of the many platforms it's on now. The cheapest is mobile I bet $7 or $8. So many people have tablets or phones.

Sony shares aren't going to tank just because Minecraft/Rocket League got cross play. If this keeps up much longer the PR hit for NOT allowing cross play will start to affect shares more than cross play itself would.

I won't pretend cross play comes for free, but the cost is negligible from a consumer's standpoint.

I'm not clear on what you mean by "supported"? Are you saying that Sony think that another platform having an advantage over theirs, or ruining the experience on theirs, is acceptable? Or do you mean that they support the notions I've raised and are against crossplay on that basis? Or do you mean that for some games they've been indifferent to those points?
What I mean is that Sony already has games that support crossplay with PC. I'm not talking about an advantage. What I mean by that is the differences between input devices won't become worse by adding other consoles into the mix.
Will someone please think of Sony's shares.

I have a dream that one day this industry will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "Play together."

I have a dream that one day on the green hills of a Minecraft world, the sons of Nintendo owners, PC owners, Playstation owners and Xbox owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood and forge alliances.

I have a dream that my two little children will one day live in a world where they will not be judged by the platform they own but by their skill.

I have a dream that one day, down in a Minecraft cave, with its exploding Creepers, with its Skeletons having their bows readied -- one day right there in Minecraft little boys and girls from every platform will be able to join hands as sisters and brothers to eliminate dark forces.

I have a dream that little Jimmy, playing on Playstation, and little Susan, playing on Xbox, will enter DFH Stadium together as a team accomplishing one of their greatest wins in their Rocket League history.

I have a dream today!

For those saying that this is a business decision (regardless of your stance on cross play), were MS's initial DRM policies not a business decision? I'm guessing you weren't quite so quick to come to their defense.

As a PS4 owner, I can't find any logical reason I could defend Sony decision on this.

It's just dumb on so many levels especially when Nintendo of all people allows it now.

Yes they were, and if you think locking games behind online checks is something you can equate to missing cross play for some games in terms demand of rectification im sure sony will feel the same heat as ms and people will stop buying the ps4, forcing sony to fix this.

I am in favor of this btw, simply saying that it makes sense as a business decision doesnt mean it wont end up biting them in the ass.
As long as theres enough demand, theyll have to come around.

I do find it funny were discussing this as stormblood launches

That was for gamer's sake man, this is just for Microsoft's.

But its not... Why are people having this stance on it? What about those who have friends on different consoles but want to play each other?

I can't even count the amount of times I've had people ask me if I play Destiny, only for the disappointment that I am on PS4 and they are on XBOX.

Is the better alternative literally "tough shit buy a PS4" or "tough shit buy an XBOX"?

Can literally NO ONE list one con for crossplay from a consumer stand point, yet still be against it? How ignorant can some people be?

Would be a feature i'd love to see, however for me i probably wouldn't use it. But, even with Nintendo behind Cross-Network play, i can't see a logical reason why Sony can't join with it.

I'm just not seeing this legion of upset PlayStation fans. It feels a bit... fabricated. I'm not against cross play, in fact I'm for it, I'm just not ready to pick up a pitchfork.

I'm not going to say it's fabricated or anything remotely like that, but I do think this is a case of when everything becomes 'similar', hyper-competitive fans start to pick on the smallest of things and turning them into mountains. This isn't remotely a DRM-gate level issue.

That said, while I don't think I'd start letter writing over it, I'm all for this as long as it doesn't mean logging into extra third party services outside of PSN. If that turns out to be the general approach to crossplay, well I'd find it quite ironic. As that kind of fractured third party network service landscape is exactly the kind of competitive difference that Sony got hung out to dry for after XBL hit.

Well, crossplay is a good thing for consoles with small install base or games with lower player count so yes. As from Sony's perspective, I can understand that they wouldn't really gain anything out of it.

It's shitty how this topic has, yet again, turned into an "us vs. them" bunfight, which incidentally reminds me of this:

Nintendo are probably looking at this as a way to save them making their own working infrastructure. Their online track record is dismal, and in the future still looks dismal.

Right, legacy platforms are not included in this relaunch. Though anyone who already purchased the game on XB1, PC, Switch, and/or mobile will get a free update to move to the latest version of Minecraft.

I'm not sure I quite understand the question though. If I were Sony, why would I want my customers to go elsewhere for a better version of the game that's on my store? Why wouldn't I just allow the crossplay so I can have the new version and keep all the players I have and be the platform of choice for Minecraft with my huge lead? With 60 million consoles sold, what's it hurting? I'd be retaining everyone and still keep those software sales up as new people join in as the defacto console of this generation.
