God of War Launches Early 2018 (PS4)

combat looked fine to me. that combo where the kid froze that dude mid-air was sexual. all i need to hear is that we will get more weapons other than the axe but i'm assuming that's a givens especially with sindri being a weapons forger and all

also, really happy with the new direction, i love god of war but couldn't bring myself to play more than 20 minutes of ascension. IP was stale. This new take has reinvigorated my love for it. hype.

I would love if not only Kratos gets new weapons, but the kid also as you progress. More combo opportunities as a result of the kid having maybe some melee weapons, different types of range weapons or spells etc.

I keep coming back to the thought that the dedicated button system for his son could be a really great system for other games to adopt, specifically for action RPGs with companions. It's a system that would be a tad simplistic but the best thing about it is that it would be seemless, no pausing the game to issue orders and it could provide some really cool synergistic scenarios.

"The kid is going to ruin the game" how so?
"cramped and slow the combat now feels" you feel this after watching the recent trailer??

Yes, Kratos especially feels sluggish and tank like, maybe they want it to be more impactful that way but it seems like a step back.

Yeah, kid will be like Ellie or Elizabeth, and not like freaking Ashley Graham.

This kid doesn't seem close to Ellie or Elizabeth levels. Far too whiny.

I don't think the combat looks fully baked yet but I don't see how it's cramped or slow.

Also the kid barely says or does anything so I don't know why he's triggering people's automatic "kids are annoying companions in media" reactions.

"You think i'm weak but you're wrong!" whines the kid in an even whiner voice, causing my eyeballs to roll out of their skull and elicit a groan I couldn't contain.

And come on, compared to the older games which had the camera pulled way, way out this one is definitely far more cramped.

I'm sure those two midgets will be providing us with ample upgrades and weaponry. Hopefully the kid too.

You know, Ellie is way older than he is and was voiced by a woman. This is voiced by a 9 year old boy. I bet that little kid will have balls if steel and you could already see that in the trailer.

Ever heard of character progression?

.

Which part in the trailer during combat you feel this way, certainly i am not seeing anything tanky??

Is this bait to post some 5 more combat gifs??

Are we counting the shield as a weapon or no cause that's another one so far. Kid was shown having two different arrows so far that's a start

No.

He just doesn't seem to turn or roll as fast or move as quickly as he used to, it's not slow, it's just slower than it used to be.

I was never totally enamored with the combat in GoW so I'm glad it's gotten an overhaul. It looks like you have to pay more attention to the level design itself and positioning/crowd management since it's a bit closer to Souls style combat now than the DMC-lite style of past games.

I can agree on slower than previous entries but still its Fast and impactfull!! Cmon you can't say its "Tanky". well hopefully we will get more gameplay bits during Psx so that we can put the combat issues to rest.

It's soulslike!

It's not

To be honest, combat and pacing were my biggest concerns after the reveal last year. But the new trailer eased my mind. Combat looks freakin' awesome. Weighty, brutal and with more than 1-2 enemies on screen. Not sure about the pacing yet but the vistas in the trailer alone make this seem like another super-epic adventure.

As far as combat goes, i'd just say that you never really get a good idea of what the combat is capable of in GoW games when it comes to official media. They always look a bit straightforward compared to what you can really do in them.

Everytime there is a PS4 PRO ad, GOW is part of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cz8wCc36GDA&feature=youtu.be

The irony: GOW wasn't running on PS4 PRO and only on PS4 hence the 1080p only quality in the trailers and I bet they didn't even start developing the PS4 PRO version until they finish the game completely.
I also expect that we won't see any official PS4 PRO footage for GOW even after the launch fo the console. Maybe from press and gaming sites only when playing or testing the game but an official trailer on PRO and with 4K quality? No

How many official videos we got for Horizon; Zero Dawn running on PS4 PRO? Just one gamepaly video and that was because of the PS Meeting event which was dedicated to reveal the new system that only happens once before every console launch.
Everything before and after was still running on PS4 even the new DLC.
While all the other games: Spider-Man, Days Gone, Detroit, Death Stranding. were first revealed on regular PS4 before the official reveal of the PRO,then they were all shown on PS4 PRO alongside The Lost legacy, TLOU2 and even Shadow Of The Colossus Remake.

I think, just like Horizon, GOW was deeply dived into develoment on PS4 and they were surprised by the introdudction of the PS4 PRO, that is why they will only add PS4 PRO support at the last moment (like for Horizon) unlike the other games where they had time to take full advantage of the PRO system and look even more stunning.

I don't blame SSM anyway, their game look so good on PS4 already but a video running on PS4 PRO with 4K quality similar for all the other games would be very welcome.

I'm surprised they haven't made the Collector's Edition available for pre-order given its contents got leaked weeks ago. It supposedly comes with a statue of Kratos and Atreus but I'm hoping it's a smaller version of this as opposed to what the leaked details said..

Nice touch. You can never get away from your past.

So I wonder if he's just somewhere else in the world or is this like a "Kratos crosses to another dimension" deal. I'd honestly prefer the former, where in the world of GoW different areas of the planet actually do have different deities, as if the multiple regional religions of the ancient world were all existing side-by-side (though to be fair, such an arrangement gets convoluted and makes no sense unless there's something over all of them).

The video footage.

Nope. Cory confirmed this was running on regular PS4 like last year and the maximum video quality of 1080p confirms it like for Horizon DLC; the only games not running on PS4 PRO. Even Shadow Of The Colossus Remake has 4K video quality.

The screens in the site too are 1920x 1080.

Give me one with full color. Would love to have one stand guard in my living room.

Cory said there was a lot of push back from the team when discussing the idea of the single camera with no cuts. It wasn't until he screened them John Woo's Hard Boiled and the single cut gunfight near the end that sold everyone on the idea.
I just watched that scene because of this post. So good!

I thought Metal Gear Solid Vs one-shot cutscenes were fantastic, so if God of War can do something similar then I'm really excited to see how the entire game unfolds.

you can still see the scars of the chains on his forearms

And they start burning when he unleashes his Spartan Rage as if his curse wasn't still lifted besides the white ashes of his previous family still stuck on him. That is why he is still ashamed of the chain scars and wraps them under bandages in order to not solicit curious questions from his son.

I am loving the reactions here:http://www.dualshockers.com/crowd-r...an-shadow-colossus-playstation-e3-experience/

The top of the moments were:
- At the beginning of the trailer when revealing Kratos.
- Showing the morphing gauntlet into a shield and new dynamic agressive combos.
- The funny joke with the dwarf
- The snake showing up.

I like the look of the combat in this. It looks like your attacks have weight and impact, and it just looks a little more strategic in general. I didn't like God of War 3 so this is very appealing to me.

He is an old man now, so makes sense he's slower.
But i think a lot of his speed will come from the ways he can throw his axe now. Both at close range with how it can circle Kratos and long range with throws, looked like it just straight up took a leg off an enemy in the trailer at one point, I'll be surprised if thats all too.

That figurine is absolute sex - a lot of these things dont tend to look anything like the ingame models but that's a 1:1 representation. Looks good. I kind of want one.

GOW PS4 is going to one of the consoles biggest sellers. Wonder how many units it will move.

Yea. I'm really excited for this. The departure from the previous games had me a little bummed with the new combat but the more I watch of it I'm starting to get excited. Even beyond that I think the story is whats really going to pull me in.

Who's the kids mom? I want to assume Kratos knocked up someone from the Norse side of things given the kid knows who the world serpent is and his language.

Where did he get his Axe and what happened to the chaos blades.

So many questions.

The fact all that is running on the base PS4 is really impressive as well.

Didn't notice it before, but you can really appreciate the animations when it's slowed down

Look at how every movement of the axe is weighty and how the hands twirl the weapon into the next attack and catch the downward momentum to swing into another blow. And then for the other attack, how Kratos is flipping the axe behind his back and catching it with his other hand.

I think that's part of what making the combat feel so heavy and forceful. By capturing the physical movement needed to pull off each strike, they can sell the weight and power of the attacks

I hope the design of the ax evolves into something more menacing as you level it up.

That is always a cool design feature and I was pissed off when GoW3 (the only GoW game that lets you view the 3D model of your weapon in the first place) excluded it.

This will be my first GoW game. Thought the series was Saturday morning cartoon level of corniness and silliness in prior entries so I always avoided it

Nothing does scale and over-the-top like GOW, so if you enjoy fun combat, big set-pieces, bigger bosses, a solid blend of combat/puzzles/platforming, you should check out the previous games some time.

Yeah I've just never like Kratos as a character, it's hard for me to get over that. I like his depiction in this game though.
