I mean I'm all for the 10 year rule on spoilers, but only when the spoiler is widely known. Snake kills dumbledor, Aris dies, Captain America is a secret hydra agent stuff.

I feel like the inner moments of the kingdom hearts story and what not are not well known enough to say stuff in the title. Not to mention people playing them or the remasters in anticipation for the final game (supposedly final)

I never played 2 and was thinking about it someday but now its like... welp now I know that happens.

GOOFY IS IN THE TRAILER FOR KH3.

on the contrary, thats the reason to play those games
But it also seems like too much effort

If you're enjoying the wacky story, trust me, the stuff in the spin-offs is going to be worth the effort. I mean, it's all in a nice collection now and you've got a good ten years or so to get through it before KHIII releases.

You just spoiled more about KH2 than the title does, because you confirmed something about the nature of the death that the title doesn't.

Since people are bringing up Disney's aversion to killing off their characters as a defense of the title and "Disney Death" being a thing, I'm going to respectfully disagree. Using the same defense that multiple people have used in this thread: if people are at all familiar with Disney and FF or the insanity of KH's plot, mentioning a fake death shouldn't really be a big spoiler. It is, at the very least, fairly ambiguous, unlike the title we got.

And, like I said in my reply to mutsukki's post, willing to bet that thread would've been much more sensible.

e: make it "death" instead of fake death and it's even more ambiguous, but still pretty easy to figure out

Well I guess you could say it spoiled seeing the hilarity of the game trying to pass off this rather silly moment as seriously dramatic for the first time with your own eyes.
Now people will know it's coming and it's like knowing the punchline before the joke!

On the other hand people might think this is legit, ignore the rest of the OP and thread for fear of more spoilers and go into KH2 grumbling "I know Goofy dies in this one" which kind of makes me chuckle because, come on.

I personally really dislike spoilers as well but the "death" is a minor thing that doesn't spoil anything. The other shit surrounding it that is described in the OP would be a bigger spoiler to me.

Not cool to spoiler this. It's a legitimate "shocking" scene and works very well to set the mood for the upcoming event directly connected to this.
Uh....wut? You can't be serious. That scene is God awful. Donald literally says 'I'm sorry about the ice cream' after Goofy is supposedly dead from the only rock that fell because some flying thing randomly blew up one rock. Is the mood they are setting that 'everything in this game is ridiculous and stupid'? Because that's the mood I gathered from it.

It seems really hard for me, having only played the first game years ago, to be emotionally affected at all by a character's death named "Goofy."

Are his last words "Gawrsh!"

Is he surrounded by loved ones in a hospital discussing his regrets in life, and for every mention of having wished he'd traveled more does he utter, "hyuk!"

"Golly I sure wish I weren't dyin'!"

Of course what we now need is spoiler tags in titles. Now's your time to shine U+2588!

Code:
Is ██████████████ in Kingdom Hearts 2 the ██████████████?

If I make a Thanos or Thor 2 joke can I be part of the cool people club?

Thanos is the spoiler joke. Thor 2 is the poll joke. The fact that you couldn't tell them apart shows that you are unfit to be in the cool people club at the moment. Sorry.

What is the point if it's widely known, the Hail Hydra thing you mentioned is barely an year old lol

10 years is more than enough for anything

If the title was "Is THAT death in Kingdom Hearts 2 the GOAT story beat?", the scene actually being discussed wouldn't be in the top 10 or 20 things people think of. Note that me clarifying this is actually more of a spoiler for Kingdom Hearts 2 than the title.

My example is for a specific scene from Metal Gear Solid 2, not a direct example to use for this instance. The point stands. Not having played KH2 (thanks guys) I can't frame it better.

"So about the shocking end to Uncharted 3's prologue"

everyone knows I'm talking about Nate and Sully getting killed. But hey, they're not dead. Which is pretty obvious because we're ten minutes into the game. But a title like:

"Yo, when Sully and Nate get killed at the start of Uncharted 3"

Would have people, who haven't played it livid.

"It's ok they're not really dead!"

So you just spoiled a plot twist?

"Well they obviously weren't going to die at the start of the game!"

But you've just spoiled literal content and spoilt the opening

"It doesn't matter, it doesn't affect literally anything that happens after that!"

Literally this thread.

If I revealed that Thor (as part of The Avengers) is in KH3, would that be a spoiler?

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
This was going to be the year when I finally play this 11 year old game but now that I know that Goofy is definitely dead and never coming back my experience is ruined. Thanks OP

Seriously guys, the game is 11 years old.

The only time I complained about someone posting spoilers to a mod, the goof banned me instead and the thread I was complaining about continues to be a shitshow.

What thread was that?

KH's plot is so nonsensical that is actually impossible to spoil.

Or, like someone said earlier (paraphrasing): you can have your cat roll on your keyboard and the resulting text will probably be a KH spoiler.

That's why the story is so fucking fun though. It's so dumb.

I gotta say you did a poor job of explaining your point because you example just made me think of how dumb outrage would be on a thread like that too and it's even worse because that game is half as old.

I thought it was fucking dumb as hell. "Killing" Goofy for no reason, and then bringing him back, was some Final Fantasy 4 bullshit.
Actual spoiler of actual plot twist, to put it a different way.

You're really not missing anything. The scene is played for drama and is thrown away 5 minutes later as if nothing happened.

So if you were to play this series without being spoiled, how would you do it if you didn't want to be spoiled by locations? How would you know which Disney movies to watch ahead of time so KH doesn't spoil the plot for those movies?

But I'm sure some people would be outraged if they knew there was X world in KH3.

I didn't know Square Enix got the rights to use Mega Man X for Kingdom Hearts 3, will we get Zero's Z-Sabre?
