"PS4 is like a 5 years old PC and it’s really holding developers back"

I'm not an expert but I built my PC in 2012 and the only upgrade it had was a GTX770 and if I was to downsample 4K I don't think my PC would be very happy with me.

But even if it is true what can Sony do, release another pro? I think they pulled the trigger with the pro way too soon, it's a good concept the half step but the actual pro they released seems so half baked from all the DF side by side videos I've seen.

What's the point of saying this when Microsoft has people still developing multiplatform games to work on Xbox One original? Or standard PS4? Those are weak and required to work still, so why mention Pro?

Here's the full quote from the original source:

A Way Out is due to hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in early 2018, so developers are still tweaking its systems. But, there's only so much they can do.

"You want the honest truth? This machine is not so strong as you think," Fares says, pointing to the PS4 running his game. "This is like a five-year-old PC. If consoles were as powerful as PCs are today, you would see all different games. Most of the work developers put out there is to make them work on consoles."

PS4 Pro not mentioned anywhere.

What the fuck is this author writing.

A Way Out is a new game from EA and this game is made by the same developer that was responsible for the brothers which is kind of like co-op kind of game, an indie game that is pretty much ever available on PS4, Xbox and PC as well. Now obviously the new game A Way Out is pretty interesting as well. It’s going to be a co-op based as well. It’s obviously still an indie game so, it’s not like a huge AAA title and but this game looks really interesting. And obviously that got some media attention until the developers are kind of in the spotlight right now.

Here is his full quote:

I've never understood the bolded. Based on Steam stats alone, the majority of people don't have PCs that are as capable as current consoles, so if these consoles didn't exist then the lowest common denominator is actually lower.

Do a PC-only release then.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Yeah, Sony and Microsoft should totally put out a $800 console. Because that'd totally work.

Then Xbox One X must a be like a 4 year old PC holding developers back.

Well, I can see why one would say that. Strictly speaking, PS4 Pro GPU is equivalent, in term of raw power, of an HD 7970 from 2012. While XBox One X GPU is closer to a 2013 R9 290x, overclocked.

It's not like the pro is some insane beast but it's an odd way to frame a comment when their game has to run on an XOne base model.

And of course current PC's are way ahead of consoles, my GPU alone cost more than an entire PS4 pro so it better be leagues ahead.

The fastest single GPU in 2012 was the HD 7970 1 GHz edition. The PS4 pro is considerably more powerful. I also don't think that XOX is that much more powerful by his standards.

Lol. Such a trash excuse, especially in light of all the great games that have released this year. I think I heard something similar during the last years of the PS3 cycle and yet Naughty Dog was able to deliver one of the best games ever.

Sounds like these developers need to git gud.

Devs aren't even able to use full power of PS4 Pro since PS4 and Xbox One are holding it back. This article makes no sense.

Here's the actual text from the source:

https://www.engadget.com/2017/06/11/the-passion-behind-the-prison-break-in-a-way-out/

It's still rare for smaller, independent studios to use motion-capture technology, though it isn't unheard of. For example, the powerful adventure game 1979 Revolution: Black Friday recently employed mo-cap to resounding critical and consumer success. A Way Out's animations are reminiscent of 1979, in fact. This doesn't mean the game's graphics are perfectly polished and the animations always smooth (1979 doesn't quite reach this goal, either) -- A Way Out is due to hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in early 2018, so developers are still tweaking its systems.

PS4 Pro is never mentioned.

I guess that's one way to find out this techstunt website is kinda garbage.

That article title was designed to inflame.

I'm sure that this thread will rise to the occasion.

EDIT: JFC, the PS4 Pro isn't even mentioned in source material. The article isn't just clickbait, it's fan fiction.

I mean... Isn't a top of the line PC like well over $800 to build?

Any console priced over what the Scorpio is at $499 is already pushing it. I'm sure we all remember the craziness from the PS3's $599 price point.

The point of consoles is its something more affordable and you just plug in and play. If they can create a sort of modular console with upgrades possible that will be great but I feel like new consoles need to be kept under 500 in order to sell well. Anyone spending any higher than that should just invest in a PC.

Ill believe you when you make something half as impressive looking as horizon.
So stupid coming from a person who released his last big hit on phones

Wait he doesn't even say its the pro, he's talking about the ps4 which is very much close 4yrs old so duh.

Tc Too much in a hurry to make the topic

The original Engadget article is talking about an OG PS4, not a Pro. No idea where techstunt inferred that from.

https://www.engadget.com/2017/06/11/the-passion-behind-the-prison-break-in-a-way-out/

Also, weird comment considering their game is also meant to come out on an even weaker OG Xbox 1 as well.

I am pretty sure devs would still make the same type of games even with high end pc's. I mean hell PUBG is a new type of game and it doesn't need a high end computer to run.

You can tell we are approaching the console gen half way point because we are now at the spot where some complain about console power etc.

As a developer looking to sell the most software possible you can't have it both ways. If consoles came out at the same price as high end PCs no one would buy them and not buy the games either.

No system is holding back anything once you willing to cut your user base.
So devs free to make for high end PC or what ever else once they know what going to happen .

One Word: Nintendo.

Dont know any arguments that can beat that. Nintendo is making the best received games on hardware, that is from the last century.

Aside from that, Sony has proven more than one time that even though their hardware might be much weaker than a PC, that their games still look better than most, if not all games that have been released on PC so far.

As long as developers continue to target 1080/30 on consoles I don't consider them holding back PC's. I want to play games at very high frame rates, even my 1080ti doesn't max hit my monitors refresh rate of 165hz at 1440p in modern games.

Just think of the PC you would need to run the original vision of Witcher 3 at acceptable levels.

I couldn't believe he would single out a PS4Pro as the one that "holds developers back", so I wasn't surprised to read the actual quote

Also he's not wrong and all, but I also think low-spec PCs are holding devs just as much as consoles. Furthermore, nothing stops developers from creating PC-only exclusives. So far I've seen nothing on the PC-side that couldn't translate to consoles (controls aside).

If consoles were as powerful as "PC's" (clearly means gaming PC's) then they wouldn't be in as many people's homes because they would cost too much.

Well, I can see why one would say that. Strictly speaking, PS4 Pro GPU is equivalent, in term of raw power, of an HD 7970 from 2012. While XBox One X GPU is closer to a 2013 R9 290x, overclocked.

You should look at benchmarks. The GTX 1050 ti smacks the HD 7970 and the GTX 680 which were the fasest single GPU at the time. The GTX 1050 ti is considerably slower than The Polaris GPU in the PS4 pro which is between an RX 470 and RX 480.

Wasn't the leap to HD seen as detrimental to many developers, particularly those in Japan due to the length of time it took to create HD games and in turn it pushed many of them into handheld and away from consoles?
Wouldn't a similar sort of leap towards technology where 4K is expected not also be problematic?

What a truly dumb statement. In any given gen, it's the weakest platform that would, theoretically, hold a dev back.

edit: Wait, is Pro not even mentioned? Jesus that's pathetic. No wonder I'd never heard of this site

Oh, are we at that point of the generation already? Can't wait for Kinthalis and Alexandros to come back on alt accounts.

lol

Lister and Grief.exe will cover their share if necessary no doubt.

What is holding them back is that little thing we call REALITY. They can create the most hardware demanding game ever if they want, it just wont sell. What stupid dev this Josef Fares.

The CPU is shit, yes, but PC games are generally built for scalability so this quote seems a bit weird. And really, it would be the base PS4 that would hold developers back more than the Pro.

EDIT: I see, he was talking about the base PS4. Understandable, especially concerning the CPU.

Do you want the honest truth? This machine is not so strong as you think. This is like a five-year-old PC. If consoles were as powerful as PCs are today, you would see all different games. Most of the work developers put out there is to make them work on consoles.
That's a roundabout way of saying "We wish could put less work into optimization"

Anyways, wind blows, rain falls, consoles can't be priced the same as the latest enthusiast hardware. All is as it should be.

EDIT: Wait a minute, the original quote is referring to the PS4 not the Pro. What a garbage site.

Did some Deep Learning neural network write this shit? Cause they need a Deep Learning neural network editor.

What a garbage article and a lazy as fuck OP to boot, how'd you even find this?
