Splatoon 2 Direct announced (7.6.17 @ 7AM PT / 10AM ET)

Passed on Splatoon 1 but I enjoyed the test splat and was thinking about getting this. This direct did a good job of selling me on the game.

Biggest thing that has me still on the fence is only being able to play certain modes at certain times. Fire whoever came up with this dumb as fuck idea.

Also, it's apparently not available on Amazon at the moment. If that changes between now and release I might cave and get it.

Since the squid sisters were inkinlgs secret agents, watch the new girls be undercover octoling agents.

Also marie s now compromised and working with them to give the octoling some territory to live.

So psyched! Couldn't give my full attention - is the online app coming out with Splatoon? Splatnet 2 looks great.

That umbrella shotgun is going to be strong on Tower Control and Rainmaker - like little inkling Reinhardts, and timing that rush to when someone tries to bowl a bomb past the shield is going be so satisfying.

It's a bit too 'edgy'. Some of the innocent fun is gone.

Still looks great, but I am a little bit down on it.

I'm unreasonably angry about Salmon Run right now. I was very excited for that mode. Being able to only play it at certain times has really put a damper on my excitement for this game.

I feel like this team makes one of the best MP games around, but put in a few design decisions that hold it back from being the best.

True talk, I have no idea which side to pick in the splatfest. Ideally you'd want both ice cream and cake on the same plate.
But not ice cream cake. That's disgusting.

I think you might like the mode swapping in practice. I learned to love it. I could see keeping the modes always on but just switching the maps though honestly. The map switching is definitely the best aspect of it! Combined, the mode and map switching really encourage going in with different load outs and gear if you get competitive about it.

looking at the time slots at least it's for a full day whenever it is available and it seems to be available every 2-3 days so it's not too bad, still stupid though.

Aside from some cool new things here and there this game doesn't seem that much different than the original. Obviously I'll buy it as the original is one of my favourite Wii U games, but I was kind of hoping for more.

It's currently running at 60, couldn't they just run it a 30? That's what they did for 4 player Mario Kart. If even take a crappy side mode or let me same run with my wife! I think I'm years away from knowing someone with a switch who it's going to want to play with me, let alone 3 other people.

That wasn't even good though. They had some shitty mode where you and one other person just played against each-other. Not proper Splatoon local multiplayer at all unless you had multiple consoles and copies of the game...

So excited :D Not much revelatory in the direct but happy with some nice changes and exciting new content

Also, playing it back at 1080p now (crappy internet grr) and holy shit it looks good, much cleaner than Splat 1

There is such a mountain of new stuff in this game.... so amazing. Everything I wanted in a sequel and more.

CAN'T WAIT.

yeah no split screen kind of sucks, the map could've been placed somewhere on the screen and if it posed as a disadvantage get split screen players to play with other split screen players.

The original didn't have it but it would've been a nice addition to this game. Still blocking online modes to time brackets. sigh

I passed on Splatoon 1 cuz I didn't have a Wii U, but I don't think I'll be passing on S2. Looks really fun.

It's actually one of my favorite design decisions. Besides keeping matchmaking fast, it let's you focus your loadout and tactics for a handful of maps, plus you learn the maps faster.
It think it goes along with the festival feeling of the game in general.
