I really can't decide what to buy this on.

Switch version I need for that portable screen goodness, but I think it might play better with the PS4 controller. And part of me wants it on Steam...

If it helps you at all, you actually can play the Steam version with a PS4 controller natively. Now you're only down to a double dip!

Are there any notable differences between versions in content, features, QoL, or anything else?

Otherwise, I'm 99% sure that I'm going PC only unless the other versions launch earlier.

Don't worry, I'm in the same boat. I have the Collector's edition Preordered on the PS4, but soon after I will be getting it on Switch and PC. Looks like this will be the 1st time I will be triple dipping for one game... Gotta support this beautiful game

Already bought on Steam and have the PS4 CE pre-ordered. First time double dipping on launch, ever.
The Pro controller for the switch is aces
With a terrible d-pad.

I'm getting the PS4 CE version delivered on Tuesday, gonna order it on Steam later today though and play as soon as it unlocks on Tuesday morning. Does anyone know what time it unlocks in BST?

You prefer playing 2D games with an analog stick? Ew.. But you do you I guess.
I've been just fine playing some games with the d-pad on the Switch.

Granted though that everyone has different thoughts on it. But I also own a PS4 and Xbox One so I've handled the controllers from them too.

Are there really no CEs of Sonic Mania left? That's crazy.

It's kind of telling that SEGA America figured out that Mania was going to be hot fire and went to work on marketing it and getting great creative guys like Hesse on board and making things like the CE and all the tie in merchandise.

While out of Japan we get basically nothing but some Youtube clips? I'm sure I'm missing something but Mania really seems to be a western driven affair.

That's a shame, it's the only reason I'd pick one up. I'm doing "OK" with the joy-cons on some NeoGeo fighters, but with a good d-pad it would be much better.

Sonic overall has been much bigger in the West for the past several years.

I double dipped - pre-order for PS4 digital, and pre-order for the Switch collectors edition. I will most likely primarily play the Switch version. I don't mind that I double dipped this one as I would like to support this type of Sonic game so they keep making them like this.

Someone earlier mentioned how awesome it would be if they did a collection with 1, 2, 3&K, CD, M - oh yes, I would buy that in a heartbeat!!!

Oh dang. Now I don't want to cancel my PS4 CE even though I'm already picking up my Switch CE.

Maybe someone would want it in these forums.

Sure but this really ought to be the whole company rallying behind the effort. Instead it seems like Sega Japan is still putting all their hopes and marketing effort into Forces.

Kinda silly that they're not letting them both have their day in the sun, but rather releasing them just a few months apart.

Yeah, don't pick it up for the d-pad, I've made that mistake and it's garbage and there are threads about it:

XBO's d-pad is also not great. Out of the modern controllers DS4 has the best one and it's not even close.

Is this going to be a CE that's actually worth something on the second-hand market for once?

That just gives it even more of that authentic 1990s Sega feel. The American branch is firing on all cylinders while the Japanese branch is spinning its wheels. :p

Honestly don't know if there's a manufacturing defect or just how people use it effects it, but my d-pad is great. Play Tetris on it a bunch and there's no accidental inputs.

Enough noise for anyone to make sure they try one before buying though. If mine didn't work fine, I'd probably have to get the PC version for the Wii U Pro instead as I hate the PS4 d-pad too.

EDIT: No I wouldn't, I forgot I had my Hori SNES joypad. Blasphamy, but it would do :p

Good thing I got this for the Switch version of the game!

Eh. They would've been most of a year apart if Mania hadn't been delayed. They could delay Forces as well, but given the target demographic I don't think missing the holidays for a Q1 release has ever worked out well for them.

How clumsy do you have to be to have trouble playing Sonic with an analog stick? I could understand the d-pad elitism if we're talking about a 2D fighter or something but this is a game where you mostly hold right and sometimes down.

I've been just fine playing some games with the d-pad on the Switch.

I don't understand the Pro Controller complaints either, Puyo Tetris has been great for me with the d-pad. The PS4 and Xbox One d-pads are both ten times worse than the Switch's anyway (though I have one of the original Xbone controllers so I don't know if their new version is better).

Well that's because Forces is the next big game by Sonic Team.

Mania is made by what I'm gonna call "Sega USA" based purely on the name convention used on the eShop page. A small, dedicated team with Iizuka kinda monitoring things but mainly the passionate fans really putting in 99% of the work.

I do believe this team will stay together after the inevitable success of Mania and maybe they'll be allowed a bigger budget Sonic game.

Past several years? Since day ONE, Sonic's popularity has been driven by the West.

pulled the trigger on the digital ps4 version. So effin excited. Hope there are more genuine new zones in the game then just "reimagined" old zones.

God I'm so ready to be super sonic again.

There really should be a Sega pad version of these by now. I'd jump on that in a heartbeat.

Thankfully my model 2 Saturn pad is still going strong so I'll be using that on PC.

There really should be. I'm looking forward to the new dual analog snes-alike they are putting out this fall but would be 1000x more interested in a Genesis or Saturn version. Not enough 6-button pads out there.

I play Tetris at a decently high level (Played a lot of TGM2/3 growing up) and have had zero issues with the D-Pad on my day-one Switch Pro controller and my friends he got a few months after. I've seen the same sentiment echoed by other PPT players with a handful saying theirs has issues, it really seems like it's a manufacturing thing.
