Breaking: President Trump plans to end (DACA) program tomorrow

We aren't going to deport people, blah blah blah.

Talk about heartless, amid the pain and strife of Harvey he is going to do this. What a chickenshit. This is truly the darkest timeline, damn this election mattered that is for sure.

I'm way further to the right on immigration than most on this board, but this is fucking inhumane. How you can punish children who were brought here by their parents, in many cases lived here since they can remember is sickening to me. Deporting dreamers would be like if I got deported to Mexico. A place I don't know and have never been.

Exactly where I am at... my views fall on the other side of the most of Gaf on this subject and I can not even imagine what the benefit of this choice is.. It makes no sense. These people are Americans and I 100% accept that and they should be made legal. Deporting them makes no sense.

800,000 people will now be deported from the country they've known for most of their lives to one they don't know and have nowhere to go.

Almost a million people told "well sorry, go fuck yourselves"

Most people broadly accept Dreamers to boot.

More recent polling this month:
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/do...mp-s-pardon-ex-sheriff-arpaio-booting-n797526

The poll also found that 64 percent of Americans support DACA, the Obama-era program allowing young people — known as "Dreamers" — who came to the U.S. illegally as children to remain here. Some also came legally but their visas expired.

The NBC News|SurveyMonkey poll, meanwhile, found that 30 percent of Americans oppose DACA.

Another win for republicans. Here is a president who isnt afraid to do the wrong thing just to please his base.

Obama and future Democrat Presidents need to learn from him and instead of half measures like DACA and Obamacare, go full liberal and do the RIGHT thing to please their base.... make laws that are next to impossible to repeal without a 2/3rds majority in senate. Obama had 8 years to pass a law making dreamers citizens.. for two of them he had 59 votes in the senate, he fucked up.

No, the work permit is the very essence of what DACA provided these people. Come out of the shadows and you'll be protected and allowed to work, etc. With DACA gone, the government literally has a database of over 800k immigrants they can start to fast track to deportation.

I think there was a clause protecting information of people who signed up? Really terrible news. I can't even imagine what it's like.

Because this is the end game of republican immigration policy. Deport everybody no matter how they may be contributing or how American they may be as long as you can use them as a weapon for votes.

800,000 people are under the DACA umbrella, btw.

So you know, just casually let a program that will end up in the deportation of 800,000 Americans lapse.

Well, they're technically not Americans, which is why Trump is allowed to do this in the first place. It's some bullshit, these young adults and kids are looking to go to school and get jobs and contribute to society and the economy. He's going to be throwing out hundreds of thousands of good people who have known no where else but the US as their home. It seems so counter-intuitive to be doing that. A better plan would be making steps to citizenship for DACA people without criminal records... but NOPE. Trump just takes the plain old racist route and wants them all gone (also because he would never allow citizenship to people who wouldn't vote for his racist ass).

No, it's not. Most people in the country support the DACA. This is going to bite them hard.

If they're not Americans then none of us are, technically or otherwise.

You'd have to be on the Ann Coulter end of the spectrum to cheer this on. Not about criminals or people mooching off the system, but tax paying employees with clean backgrounds and raised here.

This is so maddening because this should be an easy PR win for him. These are, essentially, kids who came here, stayed in school and/or served in the military, don't have a history of getting in trouble, and are trying to work with the government to make right their immigration in the country that is essentially their home. How are DACA recipients not exactly what somebody who wants to establish order in our immigration practices should want? It's not their fault they got brought here, they're trying to follow the rules as best they can, what the hell.

Like, even if you hate all immigrants and want to stoke the hatred in your base, DACA seems like an obvious way to go "I can't be racist look how I supported these blameless kids! Now give me wall money so we can prevent more people from ending up in this situation!"

They are literally going to just throw these people/children to the other side of the border without so much as bus fare and say "good luck" rather than just allow them to be Americans.

Sickening.

I had to look up what that was.

All the rage aside, what does this accomplish for anyone? Who benefits? Seems odd to do something like this with nothing to gain.

Now imagine you're getting through the flooding in SE Texas as one of these people and you get this news.

Which to me is crazy thinking because if they were made 100% legal citizens they might actually vote for the party that fights for that. But I understand your point.. its the millions of other people who have a zero tolerance for any immigrant and will continue to vote.

Certain things need to happen with immigration to be smart about it and take care of the real issues but holy shit this is not one of them..

I know plenty of people who depended on this. Really sad to see. I could have easily been one of those who did, as well, if my life turned out a bit differently. We knew this was coming, but it always hurts most when it actually happens.

Yes take people who had no choice coming here and kick them out of their homes. What utter brilliance.

Like I don't understand the sleaze. And I'm willing to bet deporting all of them will cost more money in the end than allowing them to stay. These things never make sense on any logical level other than a fuck you out of spite.
