Ex-St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley found not guilty of murder

That could be very true, but you have to keep in mind that the state were the ones who chose to go after him for first-degree murder though.

The state never acted in good faith putting forward a competent prosecution. This was a dog and pony show from the get go so the state can go see we tried.

I can't tell whose worse. An officer that will most likely kill another minority and plant the evidence on them or a racist judge who can allow more crooked cops to walk free.

Ok?

He completely dismisses the state's evidence with specious reasoning. For instance, it's not a metaphysical certainty that no King DNA on the gun means he never touched it, but it makes it pretty damn unlikely that he did. Instead of acknowledging that and viewing the evidence as a whole the Judge just dismisses it as completely meaningless. That's not how evidence works. You have to pile implausible inference on implausible inference to reach not guilty and that's what he did.

Fuck this judge.

Fuck that piece of shit judge. Goddammit...

I feel so bad for you guys in the US who are forced to live with this shit. I admit this is the first I've heard of this case but I can't get over how brazen that response from the judge is. It's disgusting he has any credibility at all.

Shameful shit.

Good on the black people and co for rioting. If I was a black and lived in the states I'd be feeling total despair time after time.

Wish I could say I was surprised by the verdict. Honestly after the killers of Tamir Rice got off, I pretty much realized that cops have a license to kill black and brown people.

And people will both defend and praise them for doing it.

That is what American "justice" looks like.

Local news in St. Louis? Which channel, if so?

Apparently they're planning to shut down the Balloon Glow. EDIT: "They" being protesters.
Well, I just went out to eat and restaraunts are slow. I just ate at the hill at Favazzas and it was maybe half full. Even Peacemaker was dead. People are definatly staying away from downtown tonight. About 4 or 5 police copters over the city including 1 just hovering over Forrest Park.

Stockleys DNA on the gun but not the gun owner's? Yeah that's likely.

Why was this piece of shit even allowed access? Isn't there some sort of rule or regulation preventing you from stomping around on your own crime scene when you're the shooter in an officer involved shooting?

Now people are throwing bricks at cops around Krewson's house, and also threatening to burn her house down. Great.

So we going with the conspiracy angle now ? I mean at some point you have to trust institutions

He's not a cop anymore it literally says ex cop in the topic title
Dumb question about the gun...

Who was is registered to?
This would have saved everyone a world of issues ... I guess it was in registered ?!? Haven't read up more on this myself . Am assuming unregistered otherwise this case would be simpler

Ok?

Why did the state not make probability analysis of that ? This is a very valid point . Why was there no state witness explaining while it's not definitive here are the stats which prove how unlikely this scenario is ? The state literally fucked the pooch on this case ... Literally you have them claiming a 5th gunshot on smoke puff and a kill shot claim contradicted by the coroner

Guys a moron he got off cause state didn't make a good case. I'm not personally convinced he is innocent I am just of the opinion the case against him was bad . This guy should either vociferously claim he was completely in the right or shut the hell up .

Wouldn't be hard to prove though. I don't know the prosecutors name but I'm sure if we looked at their past cases and conviction record we'd be able to get a sense of their trial acumen.

Not surprising for a country that had lynch mobs kill black people not too long ago.

Just a mess.

When it comes to white on black violence, it feels like "reasonable doubt" basically means you have to have ALL of the following:

1. A confession
2. The act on tape
3. The accused's attorney admitting that the crime took place.

Have it on tape and a confession? "Well, maybe he was hypnotized."

We've seen prosecutors throw multiple grand jury cases against police murdering people in recent years.

If the legal system is institutionally racist then the logical thing is to trust that it will protect racists.

So let me get this straight

1) He's carrying a personal weapon on duty, which is against policy
2) Is recorded stating "We're going to kill this motherfucker"
3) Planted a gun on the victim

And a jury judge found him not guilty of murder?

This country is absolutely fucked

Also go for manslaughter not murder. A cop will never get convicted for murder in shooting a black man. Any jury will end in mistrial as well. You're better off going for a lesser charge.

This country man, legit get mini panic attacks sometimes when I'm driving sometimes and I pass a cop car thinking if he pulls me over this could be it.

Why should protesters abide by a demand for law & order when this judge's verdict very boldly displays that the application of "law" and "order" towards Black citizens is a complete farce?

While this is abhorent, I am always fascinated how these police brutality cases focus on the cop/jury (in this case the judge) as opposed to people within the municipality who are arguably more culpable. Because to stop hiring people who are inept/racist in any organization is tough because you can't mindread, but enabling a system where they feel empored to act without impunity lies at the police chief/mayor's desk. The cop isn't even in St. Louis anymore, lol.

Posts in this threa shows why justice is so rare and fleeting. Folks will twist and nitpick to justify the death of a minority. Reality be damn,

Not agreeing with it, but if you continue to show people their lives mean nothing, eventually they going to push back

Right. The issue with corrupt police in municipalities is that the people in charge respect (whether out of fear or love) the police union more than they do the actual voters (especially since many of the police might not live in the jurisdiction). The actual voting residents need to show leadership that they should be more afraid of them than they are of the FoP.

It sucks that is was targeted at her because she's been pretty outspoken in support of the victim instead of the cop. Which is rare because every other white public official in St Louis is all blue lives matter.

Yeah how in the hell can anyone agree with the judge like seriously?

This is so damn frustrating.

Reading now protesters are planning to hit west county next. Nothing says police reform like demonstrating at a mall.

Long time lurker here, and I know gaf is a tad left and I've stayed quiet but recent comments are just.. nope.

If the police say tell you to lay down, you do it, simple as fuck.
You don't start to argue, just don't, just do as they tell you.

Then, if you feel you're wronged, you deal with it after.

Use your brain, but if you're being chased by the cops you have done something wrong.
The dead man wasnt on trial, the cop was.

I know you're banned, but fuck this shit.

First of all, cops don't get to have authoritarian powers to have people do whatever the fuck they please.

Second, "if you feel you're wronged, you deal with it after." Hard to fucking do for Anthony Lamar Smith, the man this asshole cop killed in cold blood. Get out of here with this dictatorship textbook bullshit. Oh wait, you did. Good fucking riddance.

Typically when a law is broken or order not upheld, there's a victim. Whilst the people protesting may have grounds to not respect law and order for the reasons you state, that doesn't make any victims any less of a victim.
