Waiting 20 minutes to enter a race, then when there's only 1 minute left all comes down and I have to wait another 20 minutes. And then the servers go down? Yeesh.

Servers in maintainance.

Enjoying it so far, not startling looking when doing a basic license test, but some amazing moments in bigger races at particular times of day.

Haven’t looked at a replay yet.

That first refuelling race was a blast.

I skipped GT6 so dont know if the driving line was the same for that but I dont like the changes made to it. Had a blast with the McLaren concept and stuck the driving line on to get used to break points and such but cant get used to it. What happened to good ol blue line, change colour when break option? Now its just a constant colour and what I presume are break markers on the side of the track, which are pretty useless. Or is it just me??
Could not get the break points right for the McLaren trial especially the tight corners where its telling me to break really late but doing so is just suicide

55cm then from my FoV guess of 60° (vertical FOV). Could be that it's higher actually, 65° maybe even 70°. If it's 70° then 40cm is not so far off even for a 50" TV.

Thanks for the advice, but fov issues are a dream when you're sat looking at a menu repeatedly saying network error lol

Tracks for online mode are much better. HUD is the first hing i've disabled. Standart camera is too far from cars. Close camera looks better, if you want to look at these detalised cars. And the last thing I was impressed -turn signals. Such a good thing!

I'm someone that loves the immersion (i.e. cockpit view) in these games, but when it comes to really trying to get good times I resort to the bumper cam view and can't help but feel guilty. Am I being a scrub if I use this view? It just doesn't feel right since it's nowhere near what the actual driver will see...but my reasoning is that when playing in cockpit view I just don't have the same depth perception or spatial awareness that I would if I was actually there. VR solves this, but playing normally I feel like I'm sacrificing my best to solve some stupid video game moral dilemma.

Anyone have thoughts on this? I feel dumb even posting this to be honest.

How is it they're having this many problems with online after a long beta period? Did they just pull a DriveClub and underestimate the server load? Not sure why they thought doing up-and-down rolling maintenances during a very limited timed demo was a good idea for an always-online title.

I guess they wanted everything saved in the cloud to reduce cheating for their esports stuff, but this is really impacting the player experience. This close to launch the servers should be tip-top considering that's their main focus for the game.

I'm on ps4 pro and Samsung ks8000 but it's only choosing 2k prioritise frame rate why can't I choose 4k quality instead??

i love this game so far, but sony and poly really need to be raked across the coals critically for making this more or less online only

There are two HDR sliders. First slider is located in main settings, You can change it from 0 to 100.
And second HDR slider you can find in race settings. It can be changeable from 1 to 10.
I can't understand -Is it separate sliders or not?

they're the same setting, they just use different scales for some reason. my tv goes up to ~20 on the initial setup screen which is 4 in the options menu.

Oh well... Forza 7, here I come again.

We went through this a few pages back, but basically they've replaced the multi-color line with a driving line + on-screen warnings for braking (you can turn this on in the driving options). The all-in-one line isn't good at teaching you the fundamentals, it was more of a crutch.

So I finally tried this game for the first time ever and... I'm unexpectedly underwhelmed?

Like, I tried the oval track and Dragon Trail 2 and the game looks really average graphically. Nothing like those incredible gifs I've seen here on GAF. This is on Ps4 Pro, performance mode. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but it has nothing on Project Cars 2 on my PC and I really don't have a mega-monster rig. So many very obviously flat trees, lighting feels primitive compared to my expectations... It reminds me of the first PCars which really doesn't look very good compared to its sequel on PC.

Besides that, the handling is nothing special. It's certainly better than any GTs and I would say it's better than any Forza including 7, but again, compared to Project Cars 2 (or even 1) it's just not that good. There's this weird disconnect between the car and the track. I can't get a feel for the traction of the wheels, it's like the car is gliding and there aren't any tyres. The car moves like you expect and you can control it fine but it really feels disconnected from the track, it's very hard to explain and it's a really weird feeling. The tyre/grip simulation is the thing that blew my mind the most in PCars 2, both in a vacuum and also compared to its own predecessor, and I certainly didn't expect it to feel so... "artificial" in Gran Turismo Sport.

So in general it just feels to me like a game that does everything well enough but doesn't blow your mind in any regard when it comes to the overall in-gameplay experience. Again, it's better than Forza but somehow it feels like neither game saw PCars 2 coming.

I'm still keeping an eye on GTS because of the VR mode (as I don't have PC VR to play PCars 2 with). Also, the UI experience is exquisite as always and something that Gran Turismo is still unmatched at. Finally, I haven't tried the Sport/online multiplayer/whatever, maybe that's what will make this game truly special. If the eSport aspect of this game is the focus, then it's probably not for me. I enjoy the motorsport rules and structure simulation in PCars 2 and I enjoy playing alone or with friends more than I do playing with random people online, even if GTSport's online system ensures my MP opponents will be wonderful, clean drivers. But still, I'll give it a whirl.

Definitely not in at launch for 60 bucks at the moment. Might get down the line for the VR but not at full price.

Ah, great servers down again

I'm on the fence as it is with GT, I'm not fussed with the online focus I just want to play single player.

First chance tonight to fire it up and I had a play in arcade. First impressions, I think graphically it has the edge on Forza 7. Struggled a bit as it's more sim than F7. But I enjoyed it and I'm willing to learn.

So I try to go back to the lobby, and.... Serves down, your game won't be saved, so frustrated.

If that's how it's going to be then I think I'm out.

Obviously that's not how "it's going to be".

I've liked almost everything about the game but I hate the in-game UI. It's waaaay too cluttered and busy. Thank God you can hide it entirely.

Are any Europeans getting a game?

No online available for me (UK).

I cannot access anything. No Options. No Arcade Mode.

Fuck all. What a shit show.

I turned my Network Off to see if that helps but nothing.

Great advert to tempt me to buy the game Sony....

So is this ONLINE DRM or what? FFS....

You'll learn the brake points better if you're associating it with trackside features.

Me too. In fact I'd be happy just taking pictures right now, but the demo won't let you do anything when servers are down :(

Do we have any info on player counts? From tweets maybe?

Seeing how this goes down we probably multiplied the number of beta players with a mid-range 5 digit number.

Do you always react this way when games have maintenance?

For people crashing when going into options just start a race and it will ask you how you want to steer/accelerate and brake.
After that you can go into options and set your controls up.

I'm with you.

Although pretty, Cockpit view take up too much screen space. Plus I have my wheel in front of me. It's weird to see it again.

Everything changes in VR however. EVERYTHING.

This trial isn't representative of the final game is it?

Because they've said you could play things like arcade mode offline, but I couldn't see a way to it in this trial.

Unless something has changed this morning(NZ Time here) It will work. I downloaded the demo off my NZ account, and was able to jump on with my non-PS+ US account last night before starting with my NZ account....

I believe the original closed beta had that issue you are describing of being locked to the specific account
Hmm... maybe things changed. I remember before the demo officially unlocked, I had downloaded it using my EU account (which was set to primary), tried starting it up with my NA account and it wouldn't let me.

You will be able to play offline in the full version, but the saving I believe is still linked to online, you won't be able to save progress in arcade mode if you're completely offline even in the full game. That's what I seem to recall. That it won't require PS+, but will require an online connection to save progress.

Its a server stress test. This is what its for. Expect more "maintenance" through the entire beta.

It's presented as a timed demo. Not a beta, not a stress test. If that was Polyphony's real intent, then they screwed up on the marketing front. Especially given the Driveclub launch debacle. A demo should give people confidence to click that pre-order button, not give reservations.

Enhance your calm. Servers are back up now in NA, afaict.

I sincerely hope the current offering of tracks in the arcade mode is not representative of the full game, because while (duh) a demo has less content than a full game, I seem to recall the original information being something like "select tracks" only in single-player modes.

I have about 25h in the beta and 5-6h in the beta forums making suggestions, pointing things out, discussing stuff.

Edit: Also, everyone who played Assetto Corsa and Project CARS 2 (or other PC sims) only needs 1-2 minutes to understand that spending more time won't get you used to the FFB and make it feel ok. You either are ok with it right away or you're not.

This is just straight up BS. I spent ages fiddling with gyro, gamma, lut, slip, road, kerb in AC before I found something that worked for me.

As for Project Cars 2, it has a few wildly different ffb settings in raw, immersive, informative and custom. On top of that you have the gain, volume and fx setting for each category. On top of that again you have custom files like Jack Spade's.

Neither game feels good at all without changing a heap of settings.

That's where i stopped reading.

Didn't have time to play more today, but at best that means the game is visually inconsistent. I'll play more tomorrow when I get the chance but the first impression isn't good.

Unless you're trying to tell me dragon's trail 2 looks good in which case I don't know what to tell ya. To each their own I guess.

I'm sure it says beta on the name.
