It’s weird to see people clamoring for an N64 mini while saying the Gameboy Mini has less value...

Gameboy is much bigger in international mindshare and has a MUCH larger library.

Maybe this is a Gameboy Classic Mini for Color games aswell? Wouldn't make much sense to release another Gameboy Color Classic Mini...
I think both DMG and CGB in the same unit. They can add screen filters for each and even allow DMG games to be played in color mode.

For some people it's just personal nostalgia, which is the sole purpose these classic machines are being made for.

The crazy thing to me is that there's way more Game Boy games I'd want to play to day than there are NES games I want to play.

GBC games were being released into the early 2000's so we should all have some nostalgia for it.

Your vision is clouded with the thickest fog of rose tint the world has ever seen if you really believe that. But we both know you are posting in jest, because we both know the GBA also plays GB games.

A little jest? A little snark? Maybe...but... I'm for real...

1. No fog here my friend, the Game Boy shouldn't be skipped. As someone who grew up with and still owns all their portable hardware (Coleco tabletops, Mattel LCDs, Lynx, Nomad etc), Game Boy deep down I feel has the superior library between it and the GBA. I love the GBA as well (Guru Logic Champ is possibly my favorite puzzler of all time) but if I had to choose? No contest. I play both regularly all the time and Game Boy wins for breadth of selection.

I would take the Game Boy even over the NES to be totally honest, but then again I was a Commodore kid growing up.

Yeah the tech and presentation is lo-fi, but the quaintness and what they had to work with gave the system and its games a certain charm. Just sitting here typing this I am rattling off in my head dozens of games I still love and play to this day.

2. A Game Boy Mini Classic would most likely be built around the idea of playing Game Boy titles with the proper res and ratio (albeit with 2017 screen technology) so no GBA would be on it. GBA Mini Classic would come later - there is plenty of room for both! :D

Totally agree with all this! And it isn't even nostalgia for me since I regularly bust out stuff like Kirby Block Ball between sessions of Call of Duty or Breath of the Wild.

I am always down for good games irregardless of age or graphics - Just need to hold up in the fun department.

I can see it now. 2 models, one classic gray GB and one atomic purple GBC. Same game selection and innards but one has Pokemon Red, Pokemon Gold, and Oracle of Seasons while the other has Pokemon Blue, Pokemon Silver and Oracle of Ages.

If Red & Silver weren't on the same system, I would riot.

Make it look like the original Gameboy if you want, but the system should be a GBC on the inside to allow for GBC games and color palettes for GB games.

Oh wow. Might be the first Classic I jump onto. Paperboy please.

Wait, this wouldn't include Game Boy Color games right?

yes gameboy has:

the best top-down zelda game
the best metroid game
the best donkey kong game
three amazing wario platformers
one of the best castlevania games
a few underappreciated gems like mole mania and sword of hope

The size of the library doesn't really matter too much when you only need a good dozen or so solid titles

Still remember my mom buying me and my brother Gameboys then getting robbed a week later. It hurt so much as Balloon Kid was my favorite new game.

Switch Virtual Console delayed until 2020, Nintendo found a better source of monetizing their classics. :(

Give me Final Fantasy Legend II.

Best Gameboy RPG I ever played. Hasn't really seen many releases on other platforms recently.

Game Boy games have not aged as good as SNES or GBA so i guess good luck with that.

Like im never going back to Metroid 2 or Kid Icarus 2. Theyre really not that great much like the originals on NES.

I wouldn't put it past them if they release the GB Mini in two different colors. One with Pokemon Red and Gold, the other with Blue and Silver.

This. Bullshit retro revisisionim continues to poison the forum. The tech was pretty poor but if you think they can’t find 30 or 40 timeless games to put inside a device with a much more modern screen, then you don’t know the Game Boy library very well. No, it is certainly not GBA or SNES but it doesn’t suck. Far from it. Besides, they would probably sell it for $40 or $50 at most.

Who cares?

Nintendo will manufacture a handful of stock, pre-orders will be sold out within seconds online, and consumers will never be able to afford to purchase the product, while scalpers take in thousands of dollars up-selling desperate fanatics and parents on eBay.

Why don't people understand the difference between a rumour and speculation? This isn't a rumour at all. It is pure speculation.

Omg I'm so absolutely buying this if real. I honestly have no use for the home console mini series as I can play retro games at home already.

Expected, makes more sense than the 64 Mini right now. Wonder if it'll have link cables for nostalgia or just use wireless connections.

They won’t do an N64 mini because the hardware they are using is not strong enough to do N64 emulation properly.

How many Gameboy games are actually worth revisiting?

Tetris
Mario Land
Mario Land 2
Link's Awakening (which had better be the DX version)
Pokemon
Metroid II (despite the remake being infinitely more enjoyable to play)

....

i'm drawing a blank.

They get a few more titles with the Game Boy Color, but even then... eh.

Bruh

Warioland 1/2/3
Donkey Kong '94
Donkey Kong Land 1/2/3
Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy Adventure
Link's Awakening
Oracle of Seasons/Ages
Mario Picross
Tetris
Kirby'S Dreamland/2
Kirby's Block Ball
Megaman V, the one with the not recycled completely original bosses
Shantae
Harvest Moon GBC
Pokemon Pinball
Mario Tennis (given how popular golf story is)
Kid Icarus Myths and Monsters

Plenty of stuff to mine from

I think the thing that makes this inherently not as cool as the SNES or NES mini is having to actually play the games on a god awful screen. At least the others you can use your modern TV

Are you expecting them to use the exact same quality screen as the OG GB?
