So if I play online without any assists, do I get matched with players who use similiar settings or do I atleast get higher price money and experience?
Honestly feel for you, GHG, seems you got hit hard with the SR system on BB Raceway, which is surprising to me because I got bumped and been [accidentally] bumping countless times on that track and on Tokyo Expressway last night but still managed to maintain an SR of B. I must have been making more ground than losing safety wise.
Hopefully you make it out of there quick time!
Fuck yes D rating.
I'm clawing my way out of this roach pit.
Edit: Shandy, if all you want to do is "let my try and find worse case scenarios to make this game look as bad as possible" then stick to the cesspit that is the graphics war thread.
The livery editor is really fun. Even for utter noobs like me.
No idea why I'm getting black borders. Looks fine on my TV.

Now in the scapes and replays...the game does look really nice. The handling isn't too bad, and I was happy with the sound of the cars. The "guttural" sound seems to be a little lacking on my Mustang, but it sounds much better than previous games.
...trees/bushes still being all weird.
This stuff really sticks out on 50" 4k screens.
Not at all what I did...not even close. I literally took random shots purposefully in case anyone said that. Those are literally the very first screenshots I took while playing the game for the first time. I'm sure I could take amazing shots, but I'd have to find those moments.
My first shot I took was LITERALLY the very first track and impression you get playing the game on the drivers test track.
My Mustang, for example, looks amazing in the waiting screen at the beginning. The scapes look great. The gameplay during an actual race is another story, period.
However, like I said...I've only played the game for a few hours...and I've yet to race a track that has the lighting angles that look really nice. Like the low sun shots I've seen. My impressions will probably change if those moments look great.
The missions are HARD.
I wonder if they'll tweak the gold times after seeing how the average player does in the demo. The gold time for the rally circuit experience is brutal as well.
12 hours play time already, good for 12% career progress.
100 hr campaign confirmed.
Enjoyed the time I spent with the game last night. I'll probably eventually play through the single player content, but I'm not an online racer. (due to time mostly)
Hopefully the visuals get a few upgrades/tweaks once out of Beta. I don't know what some people are smoking, but during actual gameplay the moments the game is rough looking far outweigh the moments it looks good. Anything more than like 20 yards from your car is pretty messy. It's really noticeable when you're looking ahead to hit corners.

Haven't had a chance to pull my PNGs, but I took random shots during the driving tests and my first race if one wants to see where my thoughts come from.
Edit** Open these full-res (new tab) on a computer/big-screen if you want to see what it looks like.
Trees and mountain are really rough on the driver test track.
What are the trees doing?
What's up with the track textures during the pre-race..haha. DC did this too.
The mountain/background textures are rough.

This stuff really sticks out on 50" 4k screens. I actually moved from my 4k to my 40" 1080p and things aren't as distracting.

I'm tempted to re-play the endurance event. The first playthrough was frustrating in a lot of ways (the AI would randomly spike in hostility, braking away from its own line to pit-maneuver me every 4+ laps, but I also wanna go for gold. I have a feeling the "story" in my head is even more interesting now because I don't know exactly what to expect from the other cars. My fear is that the hostlity is actually a deliberate balance mechanism (and I can tell I was benefiting from the rubberbanding), but I'm not positive. I gotta know, lol.
I definitely hit a good groove around lap 19.
People are playing the Kart race like it's fucking Mario Kart. Started at P2 and went to overtake the first kart at the start of the second lap, the guy purposely touched the back of my kart and I spun. Went to P8. Again, gained a few positions, somebody touches my kart again, spun. Repeat that one more time. And each time my SR went down. This is such bullshit.
Is your TV set to overscan? It's possible that your PS4 display area is not set to full, but that your TV hides that fact.
I wish there was a way to turn on only the proximity sensor. I don't want the rest of the hud that comes with it.
Playing these karts in cockpit mode without mirrors with these morons around is a joke.

My god if your rating drops is it difficult to get it back up because you're banished to the lobbies where everybody goes out of their way to hit each other.
Should have never done races on that shitty oval last night.
Played 3 Sport races:
Got 3rd place on my first race ever (started at 6th because of a good qualy), I was super excited although disappointed since I was 2nd the whole race and make a wrong turn on the last curve and lost my place, still 3rd felt really good. I was ready to save my race until Ratings came (Understand that I didn't know about this) and penalizations got me way down to 11th. -_-
Asumed that I shouldn't hit walls, cars or get out of track so my main focus was that. Sadly my qualyfications on my other two races were poor and I always started last (24th). In both I ended at 21 or 22 and received very little pen, My SR was B in both races, I think it's pretty good considering most people were C or D, just three or four people got B.
What pissed me off a little is that I saw like... five or six people being penalized in total and I'm sure that a looooot of racers hit other cars way often. Also, how are they getting C or D ratings in SR but not being penalized!?
Another thing is that even if I'm getting B in SR, I can't get my way out of E in DR... I asume that I'm really amateurish in my way of racing even if I don't hit the wall or get out of track.
It's set to 16:9.
Outlook not so great for how people are driving, just in the beta window :/
It's set to 16:9.
You can "use up" the penalty in race by slowing down.
DR is all about speed so just need a few more higher up positions and you will go up
I think things will sort themselves out eventually. I was just in a D rating race where over half the field managed to get themselves demoted to E. I just hung right out at the back of the race and left them to it.

lol, that's me in every online racing game. I deliberately (sometimes) choose an out-classed car and watch the flames. Anyone I beat, bonus.
Sorry, I don't get this, what do you mean? :/
I see that sometimes I get a penalization for going too fast on curves even if I don't hit the wall or have no competitors around, I still get it but don't know why, I asume is for safety.

SR is solely about your etiquette. Don't hit barriers or other racers and watch that thing slowly rise.
At the race report screen, you will see a driver's overall DR and SR. If a driver's SR is displayed in red, that means their SR rating has taken a bit of a hit. If its in blue, that means they've gained a little bit towards their overall rating. If its in white that means they've come out level and there has been no change to their overall rating.
Sounds like you're cutting the corner, in real life it's when all 4 wheels go beyond the white line, I'm not sure how GT measures it.

Edit: My last racing game was Gran Turismo 4 so... it's not really my place but I'm having are great time.
That's usually not the one you wanna pick. What else is there?
The Just Scan option but that one creates more borders IIRC.
First time I've had an issue with that.
