So given the ports on the PS5, am I right in assuming that any external USB drive that connects with a USB-A connector (USB 3.0 hopefully for speed) will work? I'm not seeing that the USB-C connection on the PS5 can be used for that, am I right? Trying to figure out what new external drive to buy to use for PS4 game storage and such.
Of course you could use any of the USB ports for USB drives. Best choice is to use the USB-A ports on the back to hide the cables and use the 10 Gb/s ports, but you could use the USB-C port on the front, its also 10 Gb/s.

Interesting that the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends multiplayer game is actually its own game with its own PS Store download.

Its free if you own Ghost of Tsushima, but I wonder if Sony is going to sell it as a standalone game.

"After you’ve downloaded version 1.1 of Ghost of Tsushima, you can visit the PlayStation Store from your PS4 to download a free unlock for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which will allow you to play."

Im not usually on the whole i hate Polygon wagon, but that article was ridiculous... they try argue its brilliant design... its not.

If it was designed by Apple;
* it would snap on in both directions
* it wouldnt need a place to hide a screw
* it wouldnt need a cover to hide where the screw is hidden
* it wouldnt need a screw driver
* it wouldnt need a screw
* it wouldnt need a stand

Party pooper.

"We are focused on the huge catalog of games on PlayStation 4, and we’re pleased that more than 99% of PS4 games will be playable on PS5 on day one. This includes games that have defined the PS4 generation – from critically acclaimed PlayStation exclusives like The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima, to blockbuster hits from our third-party partners."

Worth reposting because I still see gaming outlets say PS5 will only play 100 PS4 games or how will it work? etc.

>99% on day 1. Done. Bam. End of story. It works.

Yeah, any drive with USB capabilities will work. For my T7, they actually come with a USB-C to C cable and a C to Type A cable.

I don't see why a USB-C External drive wouldn't work on the PS5. It's just going to be a bit funny looking having the cable coming from the front and then having your external drive on the side or in back of the Console. Looking like an umbilical cord.

As it looks now, the PS5 DualSense would charge via the USB-C port in front. That doesn't seem to be talked about much.

Two USB type A ports on the back are also 10 Gbps ports, and can be used for drives, and power wise are fine for charging the controller.

I plan to have a USB to SATA adapter on one of the back USB ports for my PS4 games, and another USB having a USB-C cable for controller charging.

NXGamer ... his talk from 11.10 onwards ... completely wrong.
He mentioned because PS5 supports WiFi6, the PSVR2 could be wireless. He throws out a value of 9Gbps for WiFi6.

From the regulatory filings of the PS5, we know a few things about the radio inside the coming PlayStation.
It supports a max of 80MHz bandwidth, and uses 2x2 MIMO. This gives a theoretical max of 1.2Gbps (versus 866Mbps for WiFi5 with the same settings).
In order for WiFi6 to support 9.6Gbps ... you need a 4x4 system, and to use 160MHz + 160MHz (total 320MHz bandwidth).

He assumes the max possible throughput for the spec applies to the PS5, it doesn't.

I still feel the USB-C makes the most sense for PSVR2.

That’s a great find if accurate (I haven’t checked myself and assuming your findings are accurate here based on information released publicly). You should let him know this yourself in the comment section of that video 🍻.

This doesn’t confirm anything. The PS4 supports Bluetooth and a platinum headset. However it’s missing the audio profile from Bluetooth and therefore no Bluetooth audio devices work with the system.

Simply saying it’s got Bluetooth 5.1 is meaningless. We need confirmation that the audio profile is supported this time which is what I asked for.

hold your horses. we knew gow along with 99% of the games were already BC. the tweet i am looking for is whether or not it will take advantage of the boost mode a la Ghost of tshushima.

neither ND or SSM have confirmed this so far.
I remember performance mode or whatever it's called ran around 40fps right? That's unlocked, and surely will run at max fps on PS5 in beast mode.

yeah, it was actually a pretty solid 60 fps indoors. only dipped during the hub world lake area. i played the shit out of Musphelheim and Mist world trials for almost a 100 hours in the performance mode and never noticed any drops during combat.

but the resolution was only 1080p. I would like to see native 4k 60 fps or even 4kcb 120 fps. there is more than enough power in the ps5 to run the game at 120 fps and 1440p.

God of War (in performance mode) the frame rate is uncapped on PS4 Pro. So boost should help. Doubt any Naughty Dog games will be boosted, they'd need patches. They are capped at 30 FPS on PS4.

Its backwards compatibility, not remaster mode. My Wii played my Game Cube games. Not better, but it worked on day 1 out the box, nice and easy. This is the same. It is designed to allow us to sell our PS4s but still play our games.

they would have to patch it.

If it was designed by Apple the stand would be aluminum, cost $999, and you wouldn’t have a choice of orientation.
Obviously they’re not comparing everything, just the attention to detail

. You’ll need to use the PS Camera (for PS4), and the PS Camera adaptor (no purchase required), to use PS VR on PS5.

Man, I always try to not engage with you, but fuck u, seriously, read the fucking DAMN thing, FUD spreader ...
Fuck me? Over sharing a tweet on a thread for next gen specs and analysis?
Who hurt you son, why you so angry😂😂 I have literally never in my life owned a VR. I don't know or care how that shit works on pc let alone consoles. I'm sorry the tweet that hurt ur feelings

I don't get your argument as Bluetooth isn't just for Audio.
There’s actually a good reason why Sony chose to not support Bluetooth audio devices with PS4. The lag with A2DP is as much as 100 to 200ms. Naturally enough, this will lead to poor user experience.

That may change with 5.1 though.
But what wrong with going wireless via USB?

They and nobody else besides Travis Scott. Sony will probably send PS5 to the media when they reveal the UI and show some UX features.
Don't you think many more might have had it, but are under NDA and travis Scott just ignored it or forgot about it? I don't see any reason why he would get one before anyone else.

Isn't the charging cable for the PS5 Controller USB-C to C connection? That would only happen on the front then.
I believe you can use any charging cable and that includes USB-A to USB-C.

PS. I lose the cable that come with my PS4 so I always used the ones I had at home.

True, it's just a matter of what is coming in the packaging we don't really know yet. Maybe it will be like how the new SSD externals come with two cables. Got it like that for the T7.

Its USB-A to USB-C. Both the USB-A port on the front of the console and the USB-C port on the DualSense are 5 Gb/s.

The PS5 front USB-A port is designed for charging controllers, because both PS5 and PS4 controller cables will use the same port. And its for PSVR compatibility and the Pulse/Gold headset wireless USB stick.

I'm gonna use that USB port for the headset dongle, and just use the DualSense charging dock for recharging. It has its own power cord that goes into a wall outlet.

All games with unlocked frame rates and dynamic resolutions will see improvements in boost mode according to the article today

Pretty sure GOW 2018 performance mode is an unlocked frame rate and resolution

I think TLOU2 would need a patch. I expect it will get one, though I worry they may double package a remaster with Factions next year. We will have to wait and see

Never understood this...serious question. How does connecting headphones 🎧 via 3.5mm cable to to Dualshock fix this? The DS4 uses Bluetooth and has to send a signal to the controller and then through the cable...why not just do straight bluetooth?

Are you buying a ps5?

already preordered two actually. Lol and you?

Because probably 95% of Xbox users would have a problem to tightening one screw. A screwdriver is not such an easy machine...

Ok, but everyone has a problem with Xbox series X vs. Xbox series S?

PS5 at launch is honestly much more exciting than PS4 was, PS5 has BC while PS4 didn't, and the launch games on PS5 are much more exciting than those were on PS4 at launch (imo at least).

Being able to play all PS4 games at 60 fps is in itself a huge deal, add to this awesome exclusives like DmS, Spiderman and others, i think it's easily one of the best launch console when it comes to games, if not the best.

what? 60fps all games? Wtf are you talking about?

More important to me would be how those 99% would run. Is it like on XSX where every game will get boosted?
Yeah, well, that is a lie.

On XSX, as in PS5, the games that are going to be "boosted" are the ones with uncapped framerates or dynamic resolution, the games that do not meet this criteria, will run as they did this gen. Again, both in XSX and PS5.

But keep on keeping on, all that bullshit is not going to spill by itself.

Oh, and before you come at me with the PR stuff Microsoft said about "no boost mode, no downclocking, every game will take full advantage of the Series X hardware", here, take a look at the article and read carefully the phrase "This means that all titles run at the peak performance that they were originally designed for". So, again, if a game was designed at a capped 30fps and 1080p resolution, that's how it's going to run on Series X. Same as PS5, of course, Sony has absolutely no advantages on BC, Xbox is still doing a better job overall, but don't lie.
